Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1148567 Composed by Music by Richard Milburn. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Country,Folk,Historic,Traditional. 27 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #748729. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1148567). Listen to the Mocking Bird was first published in 1855. The melody originated with Richard Milburn, a Philadelphia African-American who has been described variously as a panhandling busker and as a musically inclined barber. A songwriter and publisher by the name of Septimus Winner heard Milburn's tune, arranged it, added words, put it into print and claimed credit for its creation under the pseudonym Alice Hawthorne. Supposedly, Winner sold the rights to the song for five dollars. Listen to the Mocking Bird grew to be one of the most popular songs of the mid-19th century, a real hit. Its sheet music, by one estimate, sold more than 20 million copies. It was sung and performed particularly often during the Civil War, and troops used its melody as a marching tune. It remains somewhat of a standard and has been recorded numerous times, especially as a favorite of bluegrass musicians. In the lyrics, the singer is remembering his loved one. She has passed away but he recalls their good life together. They particularly enjoyed the call of the mocking bird, which even now is singing o'er her grave. This arrangement opens in E-flat major with Trumpet 1 introducing the sweetly sad melody, I'm dreaming now of Hally. After the introduction, the tempo picks up to allegro and whirls along. It does slow down several times, and there are four one-measure deviations from the 4/4 time signature: one 6/4, two 2/4s and one 1/4. At measure 65, the key changes to B-flat major for the finale. Trumpets 1 and 2 each play one A-above-their-staff eighth note as their highest pitch; the rest of the music stays well within the normal playing range of the five instruments. Completed in 2022, performance time runs about 3 minutes, 23 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge. He would like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms. For more arrangements by Les, enter Sweetwater Brass Press (without the quotation marks) in the Sheet Music Plus or Sheet Music Direct search box. (Also, purchase of this piece entitles you to your choice of another of his arrangements at no charge; send a copy of your purchase receipt directly to him at lessmith61@bellsouth.net.)

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.785679 Composed by L V Beethoven. Arranged by Grant Horsley. Classical,Instructional,Standards,Wedding. Score. 6 pages. Grant Horsley #5200701. Published by Grant Horsley (A0.785679). Pathetique Sonata (slow mvt) by Beethoven- Simplified versionThis version is with the pianist who doesn't feel quite ready for the full version and would love to play this gorgeous movement. I have arranged it in several ways to make it simpler without changing too much.It has been put into 4/4 instead of 2/4 time to be more user friendly. Also there is nothing greater than an octave in either hand. Inside parts (where appropriate) have been divided between the hands so there are no uncomfortable stretches. All ornaments have been written out in full for the purpose of the arrangement, and the big chords in the middle section have been minimised but keep the power required. The audio is my own recording of the piece.I have listed it as top end Intermediate, (grade 5-6) could manage it.The whole score is on the youtube link to assess suitability- set at intermediate level. It is 4 mins 30 in length.

Cello,Medium Voice,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1258631 Composed by Nicholas White. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary. 48 pages. Nicholas White Music #851889. Published by Nicholas White Music (A0.1258631). These twenty short pieces were composed between March 15 – 25, 2020, during the first days of self-isolation and social distancing brought about by the COVID 19 global pandemic. They were conceived as a set of dances and meditations, with the intention of providing music for a dance performance. The individual movements themselves are free form in construction. The countertenor (or mezzo-soprano) part is wordless, with the exception of the penultimate song “The Color Fades to Greyâ€, which serves as a poignant moment of heart-on-sleeve passion before the recapitulation of the first movement. The title of the piece, a play on the concept of 20/20 vision, written in the year 20/20, containing 20 movements, and 20 measures in each, was a gift to the tranquility of order. Having 20/20 vision does not necessarily mean you have perfect vision. 20/20 vision only indicates the sharpness or clarity of vision at a distance. Other important vision skills, including peripheral awareness or side vision, eye coordination, depth perception, focusing ability, and color vision, contribute to your overall visual ability. There is always more than one way to look at things!

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1454722 Composed by Al Stillman and Elmer Bernstein. Arranged by John Langley / Studio Orchestrations. Film/TV,Historic,March,Patriotic,Thriller. 106 pages. Www.studio-orchestrations.com #1033795. Published by www.studio-orchestrations.com (A0.1454722). The Great Escape (1963) is one of the great American epic war adventure films starring some of the greatest actors of the age like Steve McQueen, James Garner, Richard Attenborough, Charles Bronson, Donald Pleasence, James Coburn, David McCallum, Gordon Jackson, among many others.  The soundtrack was composed by Elmer Bernstein who had enjoyed great acclaim for his music for the 1960 epic The Magnificent 7 (also starrring Steve McQueen).  The Great Escape March theme is regarded as one of the best loved war film themes harnessing both a British and an American patriotic flavour in its themes.  Its bitter sweet jauntiness successfully catches the mood of the film, the optimism and indominatable spirit of the prisoners always hell bent on trying to escape, and the German march theme also makes a brief appearance to reflect all the voices in the narrative of the story.  Other film composers have used a similar approach using a jaunty march theme like Bernstein does - notably The bridge over the river Kwai and A bridge too far - while other composers have tried (arguably) less successfully to encapsulate appropriate pathos alongside that optimism in the 'optimistic' themes. This arrangement is a great bite sized orchestral excerpt appropriate for any concert of film music, or military war/historic themes. INSTRUMENTATION:FlutePiccolo2 Oboes2 Clarinets2 Bassoons4 Horns4 Trumpets3 TrombonesTubaTimpani3 Percussion [Bass Drum/Cymbals/2 Side Drums]StringsFeel free to browse other similar titles on this website written by John langley and Paul Campbell at www.studio-orchestrations.com

Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.553629 Composed by Franz Liszt. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Christmas,Romantic Period. 96 pages. RayThompsonMusic #3362425. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.553629). Liszt: Weihnachtsbaum (Christmas Tree Suite)( A selection of six pieces from) They are:1.Altes Weihnachtlied (An old Christmas Carol)3.Die Hirten an der Krippe (The Shepherds at the Manger)(in dulce jubilo) 4.Adeste Fideles (O come all ye faithful)5.Scherzoso 8.Altes provenzalisches Weihnachtslied (Provencal Carol)9. Evening Bells. Some pieces are available separately. Weihnachtsbaum (English: Christmas Tree; French: Arbre de Noel) is a suite of 12 pieces written by Franz Liszt in 1873–76, with revisions in 1881. The suite exists in versions for solo piano and piano four-hands. Weihnachtsbaum does not demand great virtuosity, and it has been described as a distant relation of Schumann’s Kinderszenen and Debussy’s Children’s Corner. It occupies an unusual place in Liszt’s output, and it may be for these reasons that it has received relatively little attention from performers.Liszt dedicated Weihnachtsbaum to his first grandchild Daniela von Bülow (1860-1940; daughter of Cosima and Hans von Bülow). Daniela had accompanied her grandfather to Rome due to his frail condition. The first performance was on Christmas Day 1881 in Daniela’s Rome hotel room. This was the day on which her mother Cosima always celebrated her birthday, although she was actually born on Christmas Eve. Something different for wind ensemble.

Cello Solo - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1095693 Composed by Julie Munkholm Bruun. Blues,Classical,Rock. Individual part. 41 pages. Julie Munkholm Bruun #699675. Published by Julie Munkholm Bruun (A0.1095693). There's a new cello lesson book on the market! In this book I've turned the normal way of learning to play the cello upside down. With a little bit of creativity, and a lot of knowledge and understanding about how the instrument works - and how students learn - I have created this book. I hope you will love it just as much as I do, and that it will help you build a good foundation for your cello playing. FROM THE INTRODUCTION: This lesson book was created with a new perspective in mind. My hope is, that this way of learning, will make it easier to learn to play the cello. I have chosen to include a few chapters in the beginning of the book, where you will play on open strings. That will help you establish a good, basic understanding for how the cello should sound. It will also give you the opportunity to build up strength in the left hand slowly – and concentrate on getting a good, basic bowing technique. I have included small chapters with music theory, that I find important in order to understand how the instrument works. The cello doesn't have any keys or frets to help you play in tune, so knowing a few tips and tricks will help you tremendously. As opposed to most cello lesson books, the first finger you will learn to use here is the 4th finger. The 4th finger is your little finger and usually the least strong finger of them all. Starting with 4th finger has 2 very important advantages: • When you use the 4th finger – especially in the beginning – you will use the other 3 fingers to help push the string down into the fingerboard. That will help you establish a good, healthy hand position for the left hand. And when you start with 4th finger, using the other 3 fingers will feel so easy! • 4th finger in the first position is the same note (an octave higher) as the open string below. It gives you the opportunity to use the open string to know if you play in tune. Once you have gone through this book you should be able to play with the bow, by plucking the strings (pizzicato) and use 1st, 3rd and 4th finger on the left hand. That means that you should be able to play songs in G Major and D Major in one octave. The last few chapters include duets for two cellos. I have chosen to include the duets to make it more fun to play and to start developing the students ability play chamber music. It is wonderful to be able to play an instrument, and playing with other people adds an extra dimension to that. Love, live, play! Julie.

Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.808689 Composed by W. Benton Overstreet (1888-1935). Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Graduation,Holiday,Jazz,Traditional. Score and parts. 30 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #4331333. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808689).      William Benton Overstreet did it all-played piano, wrote songs, led bands. Probably the accomplishment for which he’s most remembered today is his composing of There’ll Be Some Changes Made, published in 1921. Billy Higgins, popular stage comedian, wrote the lyrics, and Ethel Waters, then just 24, recorded the song on the Black Swan label. The disc quickly achieved hit status, and the song has remained popular across multiple musical platform styles ever since.     This arrangement is a happy, fun piece and includes some of the great (and familiar) Vaudeville-style ornaments and phrases. It’s a real toe-tapper.     For the most part this arrangement is up-tempo, about 140 bpm. It does slow to 92 at the first iteration of the verse and again for the final ¬6 measures of the piece. Time signature is 4/4 except for measure 89, which is 6/4. The key is B-flat throughout, and the melody weaves among all instruments.     Trumpet 1 plays B5 (B-flat trumpet’s high C) briefly at measures 4 and 35 and for two measures at the very end of the piece. Tuba plays G3 briefly several times in measures 90-93. Other than that, there are no exceptionally out-of-normal-range notes. Trumpets 1 and 2 may wish to double-tongue at measure 64.     This arrangement was completed in 2019, and performance time runs about 3 minutes, 30 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, would be very interested in your comments; contact him at lessmith@ufl.edu. Woodwind Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.996121 Composed by Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky. Arranged by Erik Cole. Romantic Period. 33 pages. Erik Cole #4793067. Published by Erik Cole (A0.996121). This is a transcription of the complete Pictures at an Exhibition for double reed choir. It is all in the original keys and based on the well-known Ravel orchestration, which is quite difficult. As a result, this arrangement is even more challenging. It is designed with at least 2 players per part in mind, and all of the oboe and bassoon parts are divisi throughout. The attached MP3 recordings are multi-track recordings of me playing all the parts. This was, by far, the most daunting recording I have put together for any of my arrangements, and I apologize for any minor imperfections in timing or pitch. In many places, this really stretched the limits of what I am capable of on bassoon. Faced with trying to recreate the uniqueness of Ravel’s use of the solo Alto Saxophone, I decided to give that part to a solo Oboe d’Amore. It’s quite distinct, and conveniently just exactly fits into the range of the instrument. Many groups won’t have access to a d’amore, though, so I have included an alternate part for English Horn. Using it does make this the only movement that requires 2 English Horns, however. This is also the movement where I discovered that the cheap recording equipment I’m using currently doesn’t like long sustained tones, and there are a lot of them in this movement. For whatever reason, there’s a lot of distortion on them in the MP3, and I apologize for not being able to figure out how to correct that.
