Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1172767 Composed by Carrie Jacobs-Bond. Arranged by Phil Beaman. Baroque,Classical. Score. 2 pages. Phil Beaman #773005. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.1172767). A Song of the Hills is a piano solo arrangement of the 1915 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a ballad for voice and piano.  I have taken fragments of this melody and set it in 2 part writing.  The first section is Baroque in style and ornamented with mordents and has a broken triad accompaniment.  The second section is Classical in style with legato lines and extended broken chords.  These two sections repeat.  Then the final section has an abridged variation of the Baroque theme, then climaxes with trills and flourishes in the Classical style.  This piece maintains a happy feeling throughout and will put a smile on your face.   2 page score; 1:25 minutesThis piece is also found in my book, Carrie Jacobs-Bond, Popular Songs 1900-1925, a collection of 51 of her songs I have arranged for piano solo, which is also available on this site.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,English Horn,Flute,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1245953 By Brandon Hokeness. By Brandon Hokeness. 21st Century,Chamber,Classical,Contest,Festival,Instructional. 21 pages. Brandon Hokeness #840784. Published by Brandon Hokeness (A0.1245953). This piece explores the emotions of a person trying somethingnew. The first portion of the piece creates a melancholy texter, emulating thefeelings of doubt. As the piece progresses the feeling of doubt is lightened, andthen moves on to represent the excitement and racing thoughts felt when divinginto a new activity. Between the lifting melodies and excitable harmony lines, theangst is still felt but through a more positive lens. The subtitle “If Birds can Glide . . .†is from the Orville Wright Quote, used whenpeople doubted the human ability to fly. The thought of humans flying was thoughtby many to be impossible, but they were able to persevere with their ingenuity andsome creativity.

Brass Ensemble Trumpet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.961479 Composed by Frederick William Faber. Arranged by John Wernega. Christian,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Score and parts. 4 pages. John Wernega #6676943. Published by John Wernega (A0.961479). Audiences and congregations will love the tight harmonies in this arrangement. The first chorus is arranged in barbershop style, having the melody in the second voice.  It has a classic barbershop-style introduction, building up tension as it progresses. There are fun key changes throughout, keeping it interesting.   All four parts get to play the melody at times throughout the piece. This was arranged for four B flat or C trumpets, so there is no need for a bass trumpet to be able to play this beautiful arrangement. Make sure you check out the live premiere performance on YouTube.

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1510458 Composed by Scot Joplin. Arranged by Kevin Riley. 20th Century,Jazz. 21 pages. Kevin Riley #1085653. Published by Kevin Riley (A0.1510458). Bethena, A Concert Waltz (copyright registered March 6, 1905) is a composition by Scott Joplin. It was the first Joplin work since his wife Freddie's death on September 10, 1904, of pneumonia, ten weeks after their wedding. At the time the composer had significant financial problems; the work did not sell successfully at the time of publication and was soon neglected and forgotten. It was rediscovered as a result of the Joplin revival in the 1970s and has received acclaim from Joplin's biographers and other critics. The piece combines two different styles of music, the classical waltz and the rag, and has been seen as demonstrating Joplin's excellence as a classical composer. The work has been described as an enchantingly beautiful piece that is among the greatest of Ragtime Waltzes, a masterpiece, and Joplin's finest waltz.

Instrumental Duet,Piano Baritone Horn TC,Euphonium,Instrumental Duet,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.842571 Composed by Gioachino Rossini. Arranged by Sean Brennan. Classical,Concert,Graduation,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 19 pages. Bl_music #6643225. Published by bl_music (A0.842571). Theme and Variations by G. Rossini, arr. Brennan for Solo Euphonium/Baritone with Piano accompaniment This edition is the theme and variations from Rossini's Introduction, Theme and Variations originally for clarinet and orchestra.                This version has been performed and recorded by a number of internationally renowned Euphonium soloists. We first published the complete Introduction, Theme and Variations for Euphonium in 1991 and performed it on a 1830s ophicleide and a 1840s square piano in 1993. This edition comes with a shortened introduction, theme and variations. Duration around 8 ½ min. Solo part in treble and bass clef.Message from Sean Brennan:This arrangement, or more correctly transcription, was first published by us in 1991, although its origins go back much further than that. I do remember being transfixed in the 1970s by Richard Stoltzman’s recording of the original form of the work for clarinet and orchestra. I was convinced it would work for Euphonium and that one day there would be players with the technique, and above all musicality, to bring it off. For me, this vision came true in 1994 when we first performed the piece in Birmingham in 2004, and then again 10 years later when David Thornton and the Black Dyke Band recorded the Theme and Variations. Rossini composed the Introduction, Theme and Variations for clarinet and orchestra in 1810 at the request of a fellow student at the Conservatorio di Bologna. Although the autograph score has been lost, and some musicologists have questioned the authenticity of the work, I find no reason for doubt since Rossini recycled some of the material in later works, and apart from that his evervascent musical personality is abundant from beginning to end.

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1223683 By George B Chave. By Claude Debussy. Arranged by George B Chave. 20th Century,Classical. 9 pages. BrassMagicMusic.com #819834. Published by BrassMagicMusic.com (A0.1223683). This arrangement features horn on the primary melody, and generally places the work in the lower and darker registers of the other instruments.  At the climax the first trumpet climbs out of the darkness and into the bright upper register.  As the theme is recalled/remembered at the end, trumpet with harmon mute lends a nostalgic feeling.  Combined with my arrangement of General Lavine and Heather, this would make a great recital set of Debussy's music.  Buy all three Debussy Preludes as a set (including Heather, The Girl With The Flaxen Hair, and General Lavine) and save over 14%. Instrumental Duet,Keyboard - Digital Download SKU: A0.1497843 Composed by Jenni Roditi. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary. 12 pages. Jenni Roditi #1074255. Published by Jenni Roditi (A0.1497843). Piano Duo - 2 pianos, 4 hands. Surrender, Between the Octaves was the piece that was composed first in the suite. It exposes a simple call to return to the beginning, to return to a pure act of listening. This note..ah, now that note.. oh. This is how the piece was written - one note at a time. Listening from within a space (its original title) of resonance, of edges and meetings, of disappearances and repetitions that reflect on this gentle body of notes. There is a slow hearing that may, or may not create a tone-journey.Names of all the movements in the suite Between the Octaves in the right order are Initiate, Surrender, Thread, Curve, Encircle, Ritualise, Ignite. The whole suite follows a long line from movement 1 to movement 7. However, individual pieces are well suited to be played alone too. Piano Duo is ideally two Steinway grands, otherwise, whatever is available. An enjoyment of the tensions and relationships generated between the two instruments: grand-upright, upright-electronic keyboard is to be explored as a positive. Each piece creates its own world in the suite and can be part of smaller subgroups taken from the suite, in any combination, but the order of the pieces needs to be maintained if more than one is played. Here is a taste of the background to the musical world of this 53 minute compositional suite. During a reflective time I read the following: The whole philosophy of dharma art (Buddhist art) is that you don't try to be artistic, but you just approach objects as they are, and the message comes through automatically. (Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, from 'True Perception The Path of Dharma Art.' Shambhala 2008, p.133.) The 'objects as they are' became the 'octaves as they are'. As the pieces were composed the octaves had a centring and clarifying role that allowed other material to circulate around or play against them. They acted as pivots, repetitions, drones, ostinati, pointillist nodes, pedals, melodic features, struts, harmonic turnpikes, breathing spaces, bass lines: musical imperatives. The octaves called the musical shots most of the time. When the music pulled a semitone up or down and away from the octaves (as it did quite often) it was especially telling in the context of the ringing spaces the octaves were creating. I became interested in the subtle dislocation that two pianos could provide. By dislocation I mean a degree of tension between the natural acoustics of the two instruments in the room and the players idiosyncrasies as musicians.  The whole point of this work was to examine the nature of my syntax, grammar, and compositional thinking. The title demanded one thing above all: what notes am I going to use between these octaves?? My choice of notes was derived in most instances from the tempo, pitch, and rhythm of the initial octaves at the beginning of each piece alongside the individual word titles that I set out to explore as musical images. The audio was developed from Sibelius software, via MIDI to Logic samples of a Steinway grand piano.

Concert Band - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1216222 Composed by Jordan R. Sawyer. Classical. Score and Parts. 27 pages. J.R. Sawyer #812830. Published by J.R. Sawyer (A0.1216222). In the King’s Forest is broken into Three distinct settings, all using the same melody based on the introductory fanfare-like melody. The first setting is at the edge of the forest and is light and more thinly arranged, focusing on the upper voices. The second setting is further into the forest and uses the same melody in the mid voices, but harmonized more heavily. The third setting is deep in the forest and the melody shifts from Bb Major to C Minor and is the most densely arranged. We break through the forest to the other side with a return of the intro fanfare and ends with a triumphant sequence of main theme back in Bb Major. Using the first six notes of the Bb Scale and simple rhythmic figures, In the King’s Forest offers young band students a chance to perform and connect to mature musical content.

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1111262 Composed by Brett L. Wery. Chamber,Classical,Contemporary. Score. 12 pages. Sonata Grendel Publishing #713542. Published by Sonata Grendel Publishing (A0.1111262). Interlude and the Cleansing is a science-fiction song set in a universe where myriapods—a subphylum of arthropods containing millipedes and centipedes—are sentient and sapient. The song is the second song in a cycle beginning with The Calculus of Division, which centers on a plot by the more advanced centipedes to dominate the millipedes by sowing doubt in math and thereby divide them into factions. While distracted, the carnivorous centipedes will eat the detritivorous—eating organic waste such as rotting wood—millipedes’ young. Interlude and the Cleansing is a story of the Black on Brown faction that is described in the first song as “sustained by fear and dread.†In the song, one of the Black on Browns has been found murdered. The chemical traces of his last thoughts and words are cleansed from his body. The song is the second in a trilogy of songs set in this unforgiving universe.

Brass Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.983164 Composed by Craig Wadley. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Score and parts. 52 pages. Wadley Publications #3043833. Published by Wadley Publications (A0.983164). This Brass Quintet won the 1996 Fine Arts Festival Music Award at Illinois State University, an international competition.   Songs of the Warrior, a Brass Quintet in three movements, utilizes thematic material derived from a twelve-tone row, presented in three contrasting styles.  While the piece stands on its own as absolute music following traditional formal structures, the titles of each movement do suggest a setting befitting the mood or atmosphere evoked by the music.   I. The Cannon’s Mouth Following a slightly modified version of the classical sonata allegro form, this movement presents the thematic material in a freely atonal setting, Much use is made of variations of ancient two note war-horn calls, which would command soldiers to advance into direct combat with an enemy.   II.  Amidst the Fallen The second movement evokes images of the aftermath of battle and the horrors left on the field of war.  Dynamic and rhythmic elements in the music produce a classic arch form.  Melodic and harmonic structures are developed throughout the movement.   III.  Revelry A complete departure in style from the previous movements, Revelry features upbeat modal harmony and foot-tapping rhythms.  Thematic material borrowed from the earlier movements is transformed to conform to the desired atmosphere.  The form of the movement is best described as a hybrid rondo and variations.  The light-hearted mood is perhaps a reflection of the joy found when a soldier returns to his home.   This quintet presents three stylistically distinct movements, yet all are based on the same thematic sources.  The first movement is somewhat cerebral and demands much virtuosity from the performers.  The second is darker, with some almost lyrical melodic lines.  The final movement is nothing if not bombastic.  All-in-all, Songs of the Warrior provides a little something for everyone, from Berlioz to Schoenberg, with a little Bernstein on the side.

Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1122297 By Chet Baker. By Jerome Kern and Buddy da Sylva. Arranged by Liz Garnett. A Cappella,Barbershop,Standards. Octavo. 5 pages. Liz Garnett #723455. Published by Liz Garnett (A0.1122297). The first chorus of Jerome Kern's classic is conceived to be delivered in a free-flowing, conversational ballad style. It’s chord choices cast the song in a yearny, poignant light; sung from the point of view of someone who is currently finding things hard. Looking for the silver lining as courageous moral effort rather than an act of easy optimism. It then moves into tempo to the place of joy that the lyric promises as its goal. Syncopation and interchange between the parts bring musical sparkle to express lightness of spirits. The tag returns to the original tempo and feel, revealing the joy to be a vision rather than reality, but one which provides hope: we’ll find it some day. This version of the arrangement was designed to be suitable for barbershop contest. It is notated in in treble and bass alta (i.e. sung an octave higher than written) clefs. Vocal Ranges: Tenor: F4 - F#5 Lead: A3 - D5 Bari: B3 - D5 Bass: D3 - f4.
