Key: A minor.Goltermann (1824-1898) left a plethora of works for his instrument, including seven cello concertos which sometimes go to the limits of what was considered to be technically playable in his time. Even today, these works have maintained their importance throughout the methodological progress in literature. Apart from the concertos, Goltermann also composed a large number of character pieces, including romances, reveries, nocturnes and serenades. Stylistically wholly rooted in the Romantic spirit of their time, the pieces are relatively short and of medium difficulty as regards the technical demands. Many of the arrangements that are out there don’t have same notes as the original, and therefore some of the cleverness and simplicity of the original gets lost.This arrangement uses the same shapes as the original, and there’s tablature as well so that you can easily see that almost all the measures in the music have the same right hand fingering, despite the mix of open and stopped strings making the score look much more complex than it actually is!Set in the same key as the original, the tune does go rather high but it’s not difficult to play and it makes for much greater clarity than playing down the neck.As the piece progresses, both players have a go at the tune and also the accompaniment...Each guitar part is provided in score (which will easily fit on a music stand) and score + tab which is a bit more bulky.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

This well-known tune is fun to play and makes an ideal encore to a short recital.  To increase the difficulty, go faster!Officially entitled ‘Galop Infernale’, this piece hails from Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, first performed in October 1858.  Offenbach’s comic opera is a humorous take on Gluck’s highly successful Orpheus and Euridice. During a scene in which the gods are socialising, Jupiter suggests dancing a minuet.  The other gods decide this is far too staid, calling for something with a livelier, party-feel – and the Galop Infernale follows.  The tune’s association with the high-kicking Can Can dance came later, some 50 years after Offenbach’s death, when the French cabaret venues Moulin Rouge and Folies Bergère appropriated the piece for use in this context.

These are two beautiful O'Carolan tunes which go very well together. They are both in 6/8 so jig-time. The first should be played a little slower than the second. They are in the key of G, though the second tune is in a modal key. One only needs the F sharp lever. There are no key changes. These pieces have fingering throughout (optional) and some dynamics (optional). Because of the speed of the second jig I reckon one should be of intermediate ability to play this well. Of course with different fingering one could play this on the piano as well.
