The Ecstasy of Gold (Italian: L'estasi dell'oro) is a musical composition by Ennio Morricone, part of his score for the 1966 Sergio Leone film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. It is played while Tuco (Eli Wallach) is frantically searching a cemetery for the grave that holds $200,000 in gold coins. Sung by Edda Dell'Orso, it stands as one of the most well known of Morricone's themes. American metal band Metallica has used The Ecstasy of Gold as the introductory music for its concerts since 1984. New York City-based punk rock band Ramones used this theme as the outro music for their concerts since 1991.

We talked about how life was going. The good and bad. The ups and downs. Things lost. Things found… They shared some laughs and even some tears… The conversations we had were unexpectedly poignant and stuck with me throughout the writing process.

     School is a time of great change in our lives and often we are so focused on “getting through� that we don’t really stop to appreciate it until later. This piece celebrates that part of the process. The way we build onto ourselves- acknowledging and accepting that our experiences we have during this time, both good and bad, are crucial to our identity and our ability to move forward in life. They are the cornerstones of who we are and who we become… Inspired by these experiences we shared, I wrote this text. It’s about building a house. The “house� being our self.

This is the title theme soundtrack music played throughout the movie The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, a 1966 Spaghetti Western film directed by Sergio Leone, starring Clint Eastwood, and marketed as the third and final installment in the Dollars Trilogy, following A Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More. This arrangement includes 2 parts, one being a chord melody, and the other being backup rhythm chords. Most of this arrangement can be played on a standard DAD tuned mountain dulcimer, but requires a chromatic mountain dulcimer to play some of the transition chords heard in the movie, but can be electively omited.

Without argument, Serge Leone's The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is the most famous spaghetti western of all time and Ennio Morricone's film score was a major contributor in helping this film gain it's monumental status. The main theme is instantly recognizable from moment the opening flute motif is heard to it's wah, wah, wah response.

This is a very detailed lead sheet of the iconic main theme with percussion cues, all the prominent instrumental cues, the choral cues and even the unique vocalizations heard throughout the piece (Yo, yo, yo echo, etc...) It also includes the duelling trumpet/piccolo segment which is omitted from most transcriptions. Despite all this detail the lead sheet is a condensed 4 pages (only one page turn with two sets of open pages)
