Arranged by Joyce Rice. Celtic,Concert,Folk,Holiday. Score. 22 pages. Afghan Press Music for the Harp #4802082. Published by Afghan Press Music for the Harp (A0.797298).

These ensembles, Danny Boy and The Harp That Once Thro' Tara's Halls, are accessible to many harp sizes, and to playing levers from rank beginning to intermediate, so that all your harping friends can play with you. If a duo is all you can muster, Parts One and Two make complete pieces. Parts Three and Four add harmonic, rhythmic and/or tonal richness. There are also beginner parts with each piece. When there are enough players, it helps to double the melody. All parts are written for two hands, but less advanced players may wish to play one hand as marked in many parts. There are rehearsal numbers every five measures to make it easier for everyone to be in the same place.

SKU: A0.775407

Composed by Thomas Moore (1779-1852). Arranged by John Pinno. Classical,Concert,Holiday. Score and parts. 4 pages. John Pinno #2551071. Published by John Pinno (A0.775407).

An arrangement for solo voice and classical guitar of the song composed by Thomas Moore in the early 19th century. The song evokes the spirit of the hilltop castle home of the ancient Irish kings, through the symbol of the harp, the traditional instrument of the Irish people.

The vocal part could be taken by soprano, alto, or tenor voice ranges, and if the pitch is too low for a particular voice, the guitarist could use a capo to raise the pitch of the guitar.

This arrangement was done in honor of Paul Coates, who was the yoga teacher for my wife and I from 1993-2011, and he of Irish heritage, would often humorously say as he had the class up in a shoulder stand, and now we'll all sing a verse of The Harp That Once Through Tara's Halls!

For any questions or concerns email John Pinno at jpinno093@hotmail.com.  Please also check out some of my other arrangements on Sheet Music Plus for classical guitar solo, and also duos for guitar with flute or voice :

SKU: A0.534554

Composed by Thierry PĂ©licant. 20th Century,Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 136 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #4283537. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.534554).

In 2004, the Orchestre Philharmonique de l’Oise commissioned its musical director, t Thierry Pélicant, this concerto for the late Claude Caens, the principal contrabass of this orchestra. This great artist, who was friends with everyone in this ensemble, wanted everyone to have a part in the festivities, not only the strings, but also the winds, the horns, the trumpets and the percussion, and also that they all should be heard ! Thierry Pélicant wrote therefore a concerto which is at once very symphonic – and for this reason, it is strongly advised that the contrabass be amplified – but also a piece which would express the friendship between the orchestra and the soloist. This concerto strives to be both warm and lyrical : it is not a virtuoso showpiece, inspite of the real technical that it offers to the soloist and which he would do well to try to hid them from the audience. It is also not a battle between the orchestra and this gentle giant : they stroll together, sometimes joyously, sometimes with nostalgia and go through the strong storms which do not fail to present themselves, smiling together and finding them to be envigorating.

The work is scored for (2(Pic)2(EH)22/2200/Timp/2perc/strings) and lasts aproximately 23 minutes. The orchestral parts are on rental from the pubilsher.  The piano reduction with the solo part is available for sale on this site.

Thierry Pélicant was born in 1957 at Sainte-Adresse, France. After studying the organ and the horn, his meeting with Jean-Claude Hartemann, the Musical Director of the Opéra Comique in Paris lead him to decide to explore conducting. He was the student of Haremann for fifteen years. He is the Musical Director of the André Messager Orchestre and has also directed the Orchestre Philharmonique de l’Oise since 1980, one of the oldest French orchestras, since it was founded in 1750. A passionate ssupporter of French music, Pélicant reconstructed the Messe solennelle of L.V.A Boïeldieu and Te Deum of 1792 by Philidor and premièred and recorded the Suite Parnassienne, Massenet’s last work. At the same time, he has also served the music of our time in premièring or recording the works of Dazzi, Marchand, Braconnier, Bénard, Drouin, Preschez, etc.

As a composer, musical grammar and stylistic debates only interest him from afar. As a true gourmet (since cooking is another of his passions), he strives to write the music that pleases him, that would be enjoyable to play and which would be enjoyable to hear, hopefully with real pleasure and in which he tries to express the emotions and the pleasant or surprising states of being which, to hime, these works are tied. Through this process, he has created concertos (for oboe, for bassoon, for organ, for contrabass), Escales & paysages, ma monumental literary concerto for narrator, piano and orchestra, written for his friend Dominique Preschez, Operas (Histoires comme ça, Ribouldingue, Élise et le fantôme) ; With the poet Luis Porquet, he wrote the song cycle Ombre légère (for soprano, harp and orchestre), Rhapsodie du Havre (for tenor and chamber orchestra, a commission from the Forum de Normandie to commemorate the 500 years of the founding of the city Le Havre), Et de toi, Bethleem, Christmas oratorio for baritone, chorus and orchestra and, finally, commissioned by the Orchestre de l’Oise in honor of the centennial of the First World War 14, fresque de la Grande Guerre, for the tenor Daniel Gàlvez-Vallejo, children’s chorus and orchestra. In the area of chamber music, he has written a sonata for horn and piano, for the Festival de Giverny, Borée (quintet for oboe and strings), Sextuor d’été, and Milonga (septet inspired by the World of Tango Music). Published in 2005, his novel Carnets de Walter Crane, explores the sufferings of a composer who has the obligation to write a string quartet ...

Lever Harp - Level 4 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1412428

Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Carrie Tollett and Christy-Lyn Dosé. Classical. Score. 9 pages. Learning the Harp #994512. Published by Learning the Harp (A0.1412428).

It's a perfect opportunity to challenge yourself and add one of the most well-known classical pieces to your repertoire! It creates such a graceful, contemplative atmosphere, perfect for performing in churches, weddings, or simply for your enjoyment. The fingering and lever changes have been carefully chosen and timed to make the piece as comfortable as possible to play. However, you'll find that the right hand is quite taxing and requires concentration to play accurately while staying relaxed!

Difficulty Level and Skills Required: Late-intermediate. The right hand plays the melody with a series of long overlapping brackets, scales, and rolled chords. The left hand is less busy, playing many octaves, 10th interval rolled chords, and lever changes.

Type of Harp: The big harp version is for 33 strings and larger, but the small harp version works for 26 strings and larger.

Range: For big harps: The lowest note is C, two octaves below middle C. The highest note is A, one and a half octaves above middle C. For small harps: The lowest note is C. below middle C. The highest note is G, two and a half octaves above middle C.

Levers/Pedals: In the key of G major (F levers set to F sharp). Several F, B, G, and C lever changes throughout. If your harp is tuned in C major, you'll need to tune the B above middle C to B flat for the lever change. Start the piece with the lever set to B natural.

Brass Quintet - Level 2 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1489486

Composed by Dr. Daniel N. Thrower. Chamber,Classical,Contest,Festival,Instructional. 45 pages. Https://gildedmusicpress.com/ #1066349. Published by https://gildedmusicpress.com/ (A0.1489486).

This collection of short compositions for brass quintet was conceived specifically to supplement a dearth of appropriate and artistic original compositions for the young aspiring brass quintet.  These pieces are most fitting for a good high school quintet or a beginning college ensemble that wants a conquerable challenge.  With a variety of keys, styles, and tempos, they lend themselves well for deep work on the core ensemble skills of rhythmic accuracy, intonation, and dynamic balance.  These brief works are also quite enjoyable for the professional quintet to perform for ever-popular school shows, or simply to read as a warmup with the focus of improving ensemble skills.  Performance time for all five pieces is approximately five minutes.

“Blackhawk” (duration 0:45) was originally composed in D-sharp minor as a melody to be used in Comprehensive Trumpet Skills, Book 9: Sightreading and Transposition (p. 39).  The quintet version is in concert D minor for more manageable execution.  This brisk four-four work is perhaps the most difficult in the collection, with demands of multiple tonguing for all the instruments as well as fairly advanced intervallic jumps.

“Lamb of God” (duration 1:00) is one of many hymn tunes originally composed by Dr. Thrower for use in Comprehensive Trumpet Skills, Book 7: Ensemble Skills (p. 54), intended to be used to tune unisons and octaves.  As a tuning study it was published in the key of F major for B-flat trumpet, or concert E-flat major.  The quintet version retained the original key of concert E-flat.  The reverently subdued four-four tempo makes this the easiest piece in the collection, technically, though the three core ensemble skills listed in the introductory paragraph (rhythm, intonation, and balance) must still be extensively addressed.  The horn part is perhaps the most demanding in “Lamb of God,” with arpeggiated discant lines toward the end.

“Summer Solstice” (duration 1:10) was started on June 21, 2023, which was the summer solstice.  It is a bright, cheerful piece in concert F major with a lot of interest in all the parts.  One source of the title’s inspiration came from my family’s new situation living in Tokyo, Japan, where the dawn sky brightens around 4:00 AM on the longest days of the year, which obviously coincide with the summer solstice.  The 70-second piece was completed four days after conception while the long days started at their earliest.

“Triumph: Children’s March” (duration 1:00) was the catalyst for this collection.  It started as a cute little brass quintet piece in the key of concert B-flat major, to be performed for children, such as for school concerts.  The cut-time tempo is very brisk for a march, but animated little legs (or a more manageable audience activity of clapping hands) can easily handle the task.  Although the first trumpet part ends up on a high C, there is an alternate note for a more comfortable ending.

“Waltzing Puma” (duration 0:30) is an evocative title for an evocative piece.  Like “Blackhawk,” this melody was composed as a melody for Comprehensive Trumpet Skills, Book 9: Sightreading and Transposition (p. 36).  The melodies in that series took on titles of military aircraft, and this one was the helicopter “Puma.”  Since this tune is in a fast three-four, it became the “Waltzing Puma.”  The quintet version retains the original key of concert F minor.
