Harpsichord,Instrumental Duet,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1488837 Composed by Joseph Martin Kraus. Arranged by Bertil van Boer. Classical. 27 pages. Artaria Editions #1065691. Published by Artaria Editions (A0.1488837). Artaria Editions AE432Joseph Martin Kraus was one of the most gifted and unusual composers of the 18th century, whose talent for thematic development, colourful orchestration and theatrical flair caused Haydn to proclaim him one of only two 'geniuses' he knew (Mozart being the other one). Although Kraus's focus as a composer was mainly upon works written for the stage, he had occasion and opportunity to write a variety of works for chamber setting, including four sonatas for violin and fortepiano, and this work in D minor, was written in 1777 expressly for violin and clavicembalo, representing a different sort of piece than the more common duo sonata. It is not known for whom the work was written, but the extensive virtuosity makes it likely that it was intended either for Kraus himself or his brother Franz (1760-1790), an exceptional talent on the violin. The two-movement format is similar to Kraus's early string quartets (VB 178; Artaria Editions AE418), though in this case, the extensive sonata form first movement is followed by a through-composed one consisting of a slow pastorale (replete with bass drone in the violin) and an exotic faster section that includes material from the first movement. What makes this work interesting is the use of scordatura; the G string is to be tuned down to F, which makes it more useful from a harmonic standpoint in that the note can be used in the tonic, relative major, and all dominant-subdominant keys. The Basso part is completely figured—for this edition it has been realized by the editor - but given that Kraus specifically mentions only the keyboard instrument (clavicembalo), it is unlikely that it was performed as a continuo, i.e. with additional violoncello/contrabass, but rather was intended for harpsichord alone.Allan Badley.

Harp - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.867170 Composed by Julietta Anne Rabens. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,Spiritual. Score. 31 pages. Juliettamusic #1750215. Published by Juliettamusic (A0.867170). Saturniid Nocturnes & Reveries is an intermediate level piece composed for the double-strung harp Saturniid Nocturnes for double strung harp is inspired by the North American Saturniidae moths which emerge from their cocoons with expansive, colorful wings, but without the ability to eat, so they die within days. I have attempted to express through music this irony of freedom and beauty that is fleeting and tragic. Reveries for double strung harp is a set of three whimsical pieces that explores the harmonic potential of this instrument. It combines a familiar tonal world with fanciful chromatic shifts.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.862690 Composed by Chopin, F. Arranged by Michael Bomier. 20th Century,Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. Score. 6 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #3865093. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862690). The Chopin etudes are the Romantic era pinnacle of technical demands inextricably intertwined with artistic expression. Thus, knowing them is like knowing any basic, essential level information that makes one a part of A Larger World. So, to accommodate those persons with an average hand and technique, we offer this version. The main feature that is Missing from our rendition is the change of direction in each measure in the right hand. We have opted for a uniformly contrary-motion concept throughout. The span of each hand, which originally overlapped several times, has here been re-configured to keep the hands from doing so, whilst retaining all the harmony and motion of the original. The tune is original, of course. The duple-triple opposition is notated with dots and flags, rather than using a 2 against 3 presentation. Fingerings are offered. New version as of 4/23/19 with better editorial detail and error corrections. Full-length, original key, how could it be otherwise here! MBB

2(2.pic).2.2.1.cbsn-2.2.0.0-timp-hp.cel-str violin and orchestra - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q42526 Fur Violine und Orchester. Composed by Ryan Wigglesworth. This edition: study score. Music Of Our Time. Downloadable, Study score. Duration 16 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q42526. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q42526). My Violin Concerto is scored for a Classical-sized orchestra, with the addition of a harp and celeste, and lasts around 17 minutes. Although the work sets out to explore the lyrical characteristics of the solo instrument, it is only gradually that the violin finds its full, lyric voice, and thence, as the work progresses, a more dominant role. This, in one sense, is the ‘journey’ of the piece. The work’s straightforward formal scheme consists of three movements (roughly fast–slow–fast) framed by a reflective introduction and epilogue. However, these formal divisions exist within a single, unbroken arc. Such an overall symmetrical shape places the slow Arioso (itself divided into three subsections) at the midpoint, sandwiched between the two Allegro movements. The dramaturgy of the piece centres on a twofold search. First there is the ongoing pursuit to ‘recapture’ the simple melodic material stated by the solo violin – accompanied by the harp’s bass register – during the opening bars. Whilst aspects of this melody are invoked frequently throughout (especially in the violin cadenza which closes the Arioso movement), it is only with the final and most important climax of the work that the melody appears again in its complete form, now accompanied by violent, orchestral stabs. The second search is for a tonal resting place, the arrival of which is delayed until the close of the epilogue. The original version of the Violin Concerto, commissioned by the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, was premiered in Amsterdam in February 2012 with Gordan Nikolic as soloist. The present, revised version was created for Barnabás Kelemen and the Hallé. The piece is dedicated, with admiration, to my friend Oliver Knussen. (Ryan Wigglesworth).

Saxophone Ensemble,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Bass Saxophone,Soprano Saxophone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1402348 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Contest,Festival,Historic,Standards,Traditional. 149 pages. Jmsgu3 #985560. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1402348). Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 is significant for its composition and structure. It features nine solo strings divided into three groups of violins, violas, and cellos, showcasing a colorful instrumentation and demanding performance requirements. The concerto opens majestically with distinct groupings of soloists by instrument, maintaining these divisions throughout the movement with moments of independence for each soloist. The closing movement, a vigorous allegro, follows a similar pattern with the nine players divided by instrument. Additionally, the concerto includes a two-note adagio cadence where musicians were intended to improvise a link between the outer movements. This concerto is a prime example of the Baroque concerto style. It demonstrates Bach's mastery in creating intricate and harmonious compositions that challenge performers while showcasing the beauty of different instruments working together harmoniously. The historical context of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos is rooted in the Baroque era and Bach's circumstances. Composed around 1711-1720 and dedicated in 1721 to Christian Ludwig, the Margrave of Brandenburg, these concertos were a collection of six concerti grossi that showcased a balance between various groups of soloists and a small orchestra. Bach's decision to compile these concertos was influenced by his need for employment and his encounter with Christian Ludwig, who commissioned several works after being impressed by his performance in Berlin around 1719. Despite Bach's hopes for a position at the Brandenburg court, the Margrave did not pay for the work, possibly because the pieces were revisions of earlier compositions rather than new creations specifically for him. Moreover, the Brandenburg Concertos exemplify the concerto grosso genre popular during the Baroque era, featuring a more significant number of soloists than usual and expansive music that showcases a variety of instruments in different combinations. Bach's innovative use of instruments like trumpets, recorders, French horns, oboes, flutes, violino piccolo, violas da gamba, and harpsichord in these concertos highlights his creativity and mastery in composing intricate and diverse musical pieces. The historical significance lies in Bach's ability to blend different musical styles and forms while creating a set of concertos that music lovers cherish today.
