The lyrics describe seeing the wolf, the fox, and the hare (possibly the King, the Church, and the Landlord) eating, drinking, and dancing. Variations of this song seem to exist from as early as the 13th century and can be found in several European countries as well as in modern Cajun and Quebec French versions.
