The theme of this piece is the idea of being lost at sea. The slow ground bass starts, the churning of the dark waves against the side of the ship. The sky and sea are the same type of dark, not a star or light can be seen anywhere above or below. On deck the crew wait for an order, though they are scared, there’s nothing they can do. They cannot make the star appear, and they cannot give direction without certainty that they’re going in the right direction. The waves turn and grow and often push the ship around, making everyone nervous, if they completely get turned they could get lost. The voices of the instruments trade places and come in and out of each other. Dancing around each other making a beautiful eerie melody. At the very end of the piece, the star is found. The clouds move and the moons bright light shines down on the weary travelers and they find hope again.

I took Gordon Lightfoot's beautiful song and turned it into my own piano arrangement. You will notice that the ship bell is heard throughout the song. This song is in six parts. The summon begins with the ship's bell ringing summoning everyone to gather for a story, Next is The Voyage Begins with a calm Lake Superior. The ship bell rings again announce heavy seas ahead and we are now into the next section called The Storm Begins. The bell continues to ring warning the crew of heavy waves. The next section is called The Gales of November. The intensity picks up. The bell rings with force calling for help. The next section is called The Sinking. You can hear the waves crashing into the ship as the bell continues to call for help. At the end the ship sinks as the bell continues to ring. There is one last ring as it settles on the bottom of Lake Superior. The last section is The Memorial. It is the stillness of the water after a storm with no sign of the Edmund Fitzgerald. The bell ring 29 times for each of the crew members. Enjoy.

I have seen it with cartoons on the internet in Portugese, Spanish and Japanese.  My lyrics are anything but childlike.  They portray what Mark 10:32-52 tells of the march of Jesus to Jerusalem, where he lays out to the tone deaf disciples that he will be delivered to the priests, and Gentiles, killed, but on the third day he would arise from the dead. And having heard this, James and John ignore his message and want to know who will sit on his right and left when his kingdom comes.  He has to correct them that his kingdom was not like that of the Gentiles.  The other ten disciples rebuke James and John, but Jesus teaches them that to be great, one must be a servant to all. Finally, a blind man comes forward asking a favor, but unlike  James and John, he only asks in humility that he might see. It opens with the infamous narration: ‘In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team.’ The show revolves around four members of the fictitious United States Army Special Forces unit. These are the leader Colonel/Colonel John Hannibal Smith (played by George Peppard), smooth-talking Lieutenant Templeton Peck or Face (Dirk Benedict), pilot Captain H.M. Howling Mad Murdock (Dwight Schultz) and mechanic Sergeant First Class Bosco B.A. Baracus (Mr. T). The main theme was composed by Mike Post and Pete Carpenter, although the version they created was not the same as the theme heard on-screen (which is what this arrangement is of). The theme has been ranked among the best TV themes every written. Interesting, the French version of the theme has lyrics that mirror the spoken description of the English version of the show. In 2010, 20th Century Fox released a feature film based on the series starring Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Quinton Jackson and Sharlto Copley as the A-Team. Alan Silvestri composed the soundtrack. This arrangement of the Main Theme is for the UK-style brass band, with alternative parts for piccolo trumpet, horns in F and bass-clef lower brass. It has been designed to work just as well for indoor performances as outdoor concerts. It also has the band parts reduced down to march-card size for use with a lyre as well as a music stand (making it ideal for events such as Durham Miners' Gala).
