Piano Quintet,String Ensemble Cello,Piano,Viola,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.945202 Composed by Johann Strauss Jr. Arranged by JP Wogaman II. Romantic Period. Score and parts. 48 pages. JP Wogaman II #6858523. Published by JP Wogaman II (A0.945202). Johann Strauss II (1825-99) is famously known as the the King of the Waltz. He was born in Vienna to the Father of the Waltz, Johann Strauss the elder. Strauss died in Vienna while he was working on a version of Cinderella for ballet. Performance practice of the Viennese Waltz is almost impossible to teach if it's not in the blood because there are some things that you just simply can't notate. Luftpause: air-breakSchleppen: to drag The feel of the lilt is basically anticipating the second beat. If it is slightly overdone, then it becomes a mannerism and a caricature.- Glenn Sales, Music Supervisor of The Washington Ballet. This arrangement was commissioned by The Washington Ballet and premiered on April 3rd, 2019 in Sidney Harman Hall, Washington D.C. featuring the original choreography of Trey McIntyre.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1203048 By Isadar. By Isadar. 20th Century,Contemporary,Jazz,New Age. Score. 7 pages. Mainya Music Publishing (BMI) #801732. Published by Mainya Music Publishing (BMI) (A0.1203048). Contains:Numb  - taken from the Isadar solo piano collection, The Purple Heart (improvisational solo piano) (available soon on SMP) Sounds like: Keith Jarrett's Köln Concert, Bill Evans, Liz Story, George Winston, early Windham Hill solo piano artists Transcribed by:  David Shenton ( https://www.shentonmusic.com/ ) verbatim to the sound recording Album & Songbook review by:  Kathy Parsons (MainlyPiano.com):The Purple Heart is Isadar’s solo piano tribute and memorial to the people who lost their lives in the 9/11/01 tragedy. Recorded as a 56-minute improvisation on 12/25/02, the music is thoughtful, somber, and quite elegant. There are actually thirteen pieces on the CD, but they segue into each other, making it difficult to tell where one song ends and another begins. This is very definitely NOT a problem, as the album unfolds naturally and organically, asking questions, looking inward, and expressing shock and grief. However, this is not music about only despair or rage. I also hear hope and determination as well as quiet reverence - the strange mix of emotions we all felt during those dark days. Titles include From Cradle to Coffin, Bravery, Numb, New York Skyline, and Truth. Isadar has a wonderful way of wearing his heart on his musical sleeve, pouring deep emotion and heartfelt expression into his music. The music was recorded in one take, but rather than meandering all over the place, Isadar used recurring themes that make the work cohesive and consistent enough to hold together even after many listens. This is a very strong and passionate work, but it was recorded with a rather quiet voice which allows it to be very comfortable and soothing background music as well as evocative solo piano music for concentrated and focused listening. The Purple Heart Sheet Music Collection is a note-for-note solo piano transcription of Isadar’s 2003 memorial CD by the same name (transcribed by David Shenton). The recording and book are a tribute to those who died in the attacks of 9/11/2001. The music was recorded in one take and although there are thirteen titles, the pieces segue into each other, creating a seamless 56-minute improvisation. The book indicates where the various pieces begin and end, but can also be played as one long piece. Although the theme of the music is very somber and bleak, the music covers the broad range of emotions we all felt during that period - anger, sadness, hope, determination, resolve, fear, grief, etc. Although the recording is an improvisation, Isadar incorporates a recurring theme that holds the work together as a single entity. Some pieces are very slow while others are lively and even fast. All thirteen pieces are in C minor/Eb major, but the variety of moods and tempos keep the music evolving without becoming repetitious. When the recurring theme pops up, it’s like seeing an old friend! The difficulty in playing someone’s improvisation is that the creation of the music was spontaneous and free-flowing. It isn’t easy to read an improvisation and give the music that quality of freedom. Less advanced pianists might find this frustrating. The time signatures change frequently, but a competent pianist will have no trouble with that. As I was playing this book, I sensed that I was looking directly into Isadar’s heart and feeling what he was feeling as the music was being born - a very powerful experience! Isadar is an artist on both Enlightened Piano Radio & Whisperings Solo Piano Radio, featuring today's biggest names in solo piano music.

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.845954 Composed by Maria Thompson Corley/William Steffe. Arranged by Maria Thompson Corley. Concert,Contemporary,Holiday,Patriotic. Score. 24 pages. Maria Thompson Corley #6679339. Published by Maria Thompson Corley (A0.845954). Commissioned by Julia Carey and Juventas Ensemble, this duet was premiered in early July of 2021 by Kelley Hollis, soprano, James Dargan, baritone, and Julia Carey, piano as a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King. The title of the concert was Yearning to Breathe Free. Julia conceived of the idea of combining Dr. King's I've been to the mountaintop speech with Julia Ward Howe's Battle Hymn of the Republic, however, the rights to Dr. King's speech weren't made available in time. As a result, the composer wrote a poem based on the portion of Exodus to which King alluded in his famous speech, in which Moses is giving a final speech to the Israelites from Mount Nebo. He knows he won't be allowed to cross over, and so he urges his people to be courageous as they continue on without him. The opening is very dissonant, because the images of a terrible swift sword unleashing fateful lightning struck me as terrifying. After commanding the heavens to let him speak, Moses also acknowledges his fear, as well. As the piece progresses, the familiar Battle Hymn Melody appears, as does Go Down Moses.James Dargan, for whom the piece was written, has an unusual range. Alternate notes are provided, as a result. The piece starts at about 1:18:10 of the concert, which can be found on the Juventas website.

Chamber Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.944036 Composed by Ofer Ben-Amots. Contemporary,Jewish,World. Score and parts. 124 pages. The Composer's Own Press #4627681. Published by The Composer's Own Press (A0.944036). Kantes del verdgel de granadas – Songs from the Pomegranate Garden A Judeo-Spanish song cycle for solo voice and chamber symphony orchestra Composer’s notes: Kantes del verdgel de granadas, or in its English translation: Songs from the Pomegranate Garden, is a cycle of five songs in the Judeo-Spanish dialect, also known as Ladino. The texts, based on folk-poetry, are magical, passionate, and encompass a wide range of human emotions and experiences. We can find in them love and longing, sorrow and death, lightheartedness and folly, as well as burning love and even sexual innuendo. The vocal part portrays different stories and a variety of human characters in each of the five songs. It, thus, ranges in expression from parlando secco to lirico espressivo. The role of the orchestra in this cycle is more than just an accompaniment; it converses with the voice, adds colors and ambience, and serves as a commentary over the sung text. Thus, the orchestral part is equal to, or at times even more predominant than the voice itself. The initiative to write this composition came in response to a specific cultural approach by which creativity based on traditional Judaic material should correspond to four stages in the artistic process: Exploration, Preservation, Interpretation, and Innovation (as translated by the Hebrew terms: חידוש – פירוש – שימור – חיפוש). The main idea behind this initiative was to conserve crucial elements within traditional Jewish folk music, and then, bring about their revival as art music through new contemporary interpretations. Thus, the musical arrangement is partially based on the traditional Ladino tunes and partially original. However, phrases based on old Ladino melodies are starkly modified and composed in such way to completely evoke personal imagery and interpretation. The songs I selected for the cycle were taken from the four-volume collection: Chants judéo-espagnols by Isaac Levy. My criteria for the selection was finding lesser-known melodies, yet most intriguing ones and with a strong Judeo-Spanish character. The five songs have various degrees of arrangement vs. original composition: songs 2 and 3, Mi korason and Entre las huertas, for example, are almost unchanged, while songs 1 and 4, Dos amantes and Malato ‘sta el hijo del rey, heavily combine the old Ladino romancero melodies with originally composed material. The concluding song (Nr. 5) is entirely original, but correspond stylistically to the Judeo-Spanish musical language. While all five songs are secular in nature, the ballad Malato ‘sta el hijo del rey (The King’s Son is Ill) has been traditionally sung - according to Isaac Levy - on the night of Tisha B’Av along the scroll of Eicha to bemoan the destruction of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. The Judeo-Spanish text of the songs can be found below along with its English translation.   Duration: ca. 24 min.Performance material by rental only! For demo recording, questions, or any additional information please e-mail Ofer Ben-Amots at: thecomposerspress@gmail.com

I Vow to Thee, My Country (Thaxted) (Bb) (Tenor Saxophone Quintet) - Intermediate - Digital Download. This marvelous arrangement of I Vow to Thee, My Country, a hymn tune based on the Andante Maestoso section from Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity from Gustav Holst's The Planets, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for church services, especially Weddings and Funerals, but would be appropriate any time during the church year. However, if you are looking to perform this selection for concerts or recitals, I would suggest you look for the arrangement of Jupiter (Andante Maestoso from Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity from The Planets), also by Regis Bookshar. These arrangements are suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing these selections as well. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (9 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time. We have performed the Trumpet Quintet version of this composition quite often for numerous weddings and other special occasions. The Planets, written between 1914 and 1917 by the English composer Gustav Holst, premiered at the Queen's Hall in London, on September 29, 1918 for an invited audience of about 250 people. In the fourth movement, Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity, Holst portrays Jupiter's supposedly characteristic abundance of life and vitality. Nobility and generosity are allegedly characteristics of those born under Jupiter, and in the slower, middle section marked Andante Maestoso, perhaps the most well-known theme from The Planets (and the theme on which this arrangement is based), Holst provides a broad tune embodying these traits. In 1921, Holst adapted the theme to fit the patriotic poem I Vow to Thee, My Country by Cecil Spring Rice, and was written as a unison song with orchestra. It did not appear as the hymn tune until 1926, when Holst harmonized this melody, named Thaxted, named after the English village where he had lived for many years. Holst's friend Ralph Vaughan Williams included it in Songs of Praise. It has since been performed at numerous occasions, most notably for the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales in 1981, and also at the funerals of Princess Diana in 1997, Margaret Thatcher in 2013 and Senator John McCain where it was performed at the Washington National Cathedral on September 1, 2018. In addition to being used as the melody for the solemn, patriotic hymn I Vow to Thee, My Country, other settings of this hymn tune also include O God, Beyond All Praising, by Michael Perry in 1982, O Spirit All Embracing by Delores Dufner in 1995 and We Praise You and Acknowledge You, O God, a paraphrase of the Te Deum Laudemus by Stephen P. Starke in 1999.Regis Bookshar thought that it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could have the opportunity to play this beautiful melody, so, in addition to the Trumpet Quintet version and this version for a Tenor Saxophone Quintet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this selection. Starke in 1999.Regis Bookshar thought that it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could have the opportunity to play this beautiful melody, so, in addition to the Trumpet Quintet version and this version for a Bassoon Quintet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this selection. There are Quintets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may find something else that may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are added as often as possible. I'm certain that this beautiful arrangement of I Vow to Thee, My Country based on the Andante Maestoso section from Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity from Gustav Holst's The Planets, will continue to enterta.
