Jmsgu3 #889627. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1299868). Berceuse Heroique is a musical composition by Claude Debussy, composed in 1914 as a homage to King Albert I from Belgium and his soldiers. The piece was written for King Albert's Book, a collection of music sponsored by The Telegraph and put together by Hall Caine to raise funds for Belgian war relief. The work opens very dark and somber, with a sense of mourning and loss. The anthem is quoted in the middle of the piece, surrounded by music of gloom and despair. The quote from the Belgian national anthem that is squeezed into Debussy's Berceuse heroique is the first phrase of La Brabançonne by François van Campenhout. The composition expresses the misery of feeling powerless in events, combined with everyday unhappy shortages of necessities, which was a common experience during World War I. The life of French composer Claude Debussy was full of agony and challenges, from surviving in the 1st World War to his battle with cancer.Berceuse heroique is a significant piece in music history for its reflection of the somber and melancholic mood of the time, its tribute to the soldiers and their suffering, and its representation of Debussy's work during the war. The piece is still performed and recorded today, and is considered a significant work in Debussy's oeuvre.

This is my arrangement of Gustav Holst's arrangement.It is arranged for wind quintetThe French composer Marin Marais composed the tune as a dance for his opera Alcyone of 1706, with the title Marche pour les Matelots.The tune was subsequently included in Raoul Auger Feuillet's 1706 Recueil de contredansealong with a longways proper dance, La Matelotte, which Feuillet had himself written to go with the tune.In 1710 John Essex (d. 1744) published an English translation of Feuillet's work called, For the Further Improvement of Dancing, in which the dance is given as The Female Saylor.The words were written around 1860 while William Morris, then 26, was working as an apprentice in the office of the architect, Edmund Street, presumably under the persuasion of his fellow students who at that time had a taste for part-song. It became known as the Christmas Carol Masters in This Hall (alternative title: Nowell, Sing We Clear) Gustav Holst incorporated the carol into his work Three Carols H133 (1916–17) along with Christmas Song: On this Day and I Saw Three Ships. After that, A Spoon of Sugar, with the birds part made by the first violin and the second and viola enkoying. The next part is, now complete, Chim-Chim-Cheree, with the melody starting in the cello, and then passing by the rest of instruments from lower to higher. When the second plays the melody, the first plays a counter-theme a little bit tricky. And, in the end, now complete, Feed the Birds, with constant dialogs between the violins. Tested and approved arrangement. Bass part is optional. All Nonamé arrangements are prepared to avoid page turns if you print the covers properly.
