Movement 2, Yeonzi – Gonzi: In G major in 4/4 time, natural harmonics are used to describe the mysterious oriental atmosphere. The meaning of Yeonji Gonji is the red dot on the cheeks and forehead of the bride in a traditional wedding ceremony. El título para esta obra fue elegido con el fin de crear un ambiente festivo, en el que los sonidos puedan promover un ambiente alegre, y en donde en algunas secciones se pueda imaginar alguna festividad conocida por el uso de algún instrumento, como lo es en el caso de los cascabeles. Esta obra fue creada mayoritariamente a partir de la realización de patrones rítmicos con un tempo estable. Se busca un resultado sonoro vigoroso, energético, agraciado, en el que se demuestre la fuerza de los instrumentos de percusión elegidos.Las principales obras que inspiraron a este compositor para llegar a crear “Golpes Festivos” fueron “Rebonds b”, “Rebonds a” y “Dmaathen” de Iannis Xenakis, principalmente la primera mencionada ya que mantiene un pulso constante, estable, fluido y con patrones rítmicos similares. También la obra de John Cage “Third Construction” sirvió para buscar mas sonoridades y otras formas de construir patrones rítmicos. Además, las Obras de Gene Koshinski como “Dance of the Drums” y “As One” que sirvieron como inspiración de obras de percusión más contemporáneas dentro del siglo XXI. Finalmente, también sirvió como inspiración la obra de Luciano Berio “Circles”.

Hofmusikalienhändler' studied at the famous Paris Conservatoire to be a violinist. Then, the nephew of Beethoven's pupil and friend Ferdinand Ries started a glittering solo career which he had to end soon after for health reasons. From then on, he turned his whole attention to the music publishing business and occasionally even contributed little compositions, such as 'La Capricciosa' or the newly published 'Perpetuum mobile' Op. 34, to the programme of his publishing house. This is the fifth movement from his Suite No. 3 for violin and orchestra (or piano), created around 1870. The little virtuoso piece sweeps by like a whirlwind, hopefully taking only the listeners', not the violin playing performers' breath away!

However, his daughter Chouchou was fascinated by elephants and in the summer of 1913, Debussy wrote her a ‘Toybox Ballet’ (La Boîte à joujoux) which contains a ‘Pas de l’éléphant’ and an ‘old Hindu chant which is still used to train elephants [in India]. It is constructed on the scale of “5 o’clock in the morning�,which means it must be in 5/4 time.’ My reconstruction of this lost prelude is based around this material and it evokes a day in the life of Toomai, the young mahout, and his faithful elephant Kala Nag from one dawn to the next, incorporating the legendary ‘Elephants’ Dance’ from Rudyard Kip ling’s First Jungle Book (1894) which only Toomai was ever privileged to witness. The version presented here is the revised second version of this prelude which contains an effect of piano harmonics as the dawn returns towards the end.

Published by Phil Beaman (A0.1150422). Over Hills and Fields of Daisies is a piano solo arrangement of the 1902 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a ballad for voice and piano. I have created three variations based on the original piece. After a thick chordal introduction, the first variation places both hands up an octave in a 2/4 time scherzo with a slightly altered melodic rhythm and minim/half note blocked 7th chords in the LH. The second variation further changes the melodic rhythm to 3/4 time and elaborates the chordal harmony. The third variation dramatically extends across three staves back in 2/4 time, with the melody only implied in half-time and thick cascading chords in both hands, (a la Rachmaninoff's Preludes, written just the year before this piece). 5 page score; 2:54 minutes This piece is also found in my book, Carrie Jacobs-Bond, Popular Songs 1900-1925, a collection of 51 of her songs I have arranged for piano solo, which is also available on this site.
