Woodwind Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.768500 Composed by Franz Joseph Haydn. Arranged by Roar Kvam. Classical,Concert. 114 pages. KVAMusic Edition #3454071. Published by KVAMusic Edition (A0.768500). About 1785, Haydn received a commission to write a series of concertos for Ferdinand IV, King of Naples and the Twin Sicilies. It was a very curious commission; for these concertos were to be written for a pair of strange instruments, the so-called Lira organizzata. The lira was a favourite instrument of the lazzaroni, the common people of Neaples: the Bourbon King, though often a rough and uncouth monarch, had a deep affection for his people. and for all their peculiar customs, and it is characteristic that his favourite musical instrument should have been that so beloved by his people. In a letter from the King of Neaples there are two points which explain much of the peculiar character of Haydn’s concertos for the King: the first is the restricted tonal range of all the works, C, F and G major are the only principal keys allowed. The second is the range of the lira itself which is about that of an oboe. Bearing these limitations in mind, Haydn did not attempt to write complicated double concertos, but rather ensemble music for two lire, two violins, two violas, cello and two horns, in other words, 9 solo instruments.  (This edition: Flute, oboe, two clarinets, two basset horns, bassoon, contrabass and two horns). Moreover, he neatly combined the concerto form with that of the divertimento: there is often no strict division into solo and tutti, but constant intermingling of both. Wonderful music by Haydn, originally written for a mixed ensemble of 2 liras, 2 Horns and strings, but this is a transcription for a classical wind ensemble, a great companion for a concert together with i.e. Mozart’s Gran Partita, since it has almost the same instrumentation.

Concert Band - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.950867 Composed by Moshe S. Knoll. 20th Century,Contemporary,Folk,Holiday,Patriotic. Score and parts. 179 pages. ArtsAhimsa #6131477. Published by ArtsAhimsa (A0.950867). This is a solemn, large scale, instrumental patriotic anthem, ideal for national holiday celebrations, graduations or other suitable occasions. It is written in the form of a very expansive Classical rondo, and it makes reference to various musicalidioms of the historical past. This deliberate use of the Classical Style is a reference to the Founding Fathers. Ideally, it should be performed with one instrument to a part, like a chamber symphony. The score is all in C (sounds as written) for the convenience of score readers at the piano. The first Clarinet and the first Trumpet are treated like soloists almost throughout the composition.

Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1117266 By Rush. By Geddy Lee Weinrib. Arranged by Dan Chernow. 20th Century,Contemporary,Pop,Rock. Guitar Tab. 11 pages. Dan Chernow #718848. Published by Dan Chernow (A0.1117266). Meticulous note-for-note guitar transcription of the classic song by Rush. This is a wholly new and original transcription, done solely by Berklee graduate and guitar instructor Dan Chernow, and has never before been available until now. By far the most famous of Rush's early boogie-rock songs, they played this song in their live set for many decades. Alex shows great feel for the style, with many variations of his rhythm parts, varying the chords and riff patterns with the ease of a seasoned master even at age 21. His solo is a mini-composition unto itself, featuring tons of tricky double stop bends and surprisingly very little flash. Any bar band would have been proud if this was their only famous tune, yet we know that MUCH more was in store for Rush. Enjoy it here in all it's beer-soaked glory, with all the details you could ever want. SEE and HEAR this on YouTube! (link to full video included near bottom of pdf).
