Published by davekenneymusic (A0.966494). This advanced work is the first of a collection of Fantasies or miniature tone poems for piano . The piece is in three sections and has numerous influences, some Impressionistic, some Romantic and it always is difficult to try and fuse these styles while keeping them congruent.  The shimmering opening portrays a fairie being chased by something or someone, which seems to gets closer and closer to her.  This section ends with a series of dominant seventh/nine chords and a rallentando.  The slower middle segment introduces a new melody and is where she is able to hide and catch her breath which then segues (via an accelerando) leading to her discovery and the chase resumes until her escape at the very end (I hope). The challenging left hand is the main engine for the melody, which is stated in the first measure and is presented again and again in different keys and accompaniment styles.    The arpeggiated figures are influences of Ravel and Liszt but I tried to imbue it with a sense of delicacy even in some of the more powerful moments.  This produces a light, which I imagine would coruscate in the evening forest.  This work is appropriate for all pianist.  The duration is approximately 6 minutes and 35 seconds.copyright 2017 davekenneymusic

Elizabeth portrays her first meeting of pregnant Mary carrying Jesus, Hannah expresses her prayer to the Lord to have a child, and Jael portrays her victory over Sisera, the leader of the army of Canaan, an oppressor of Israel. In each of the women’s circumstances, she had a choice to act negatively but chose to respond positively. Elizabeth could have shunned Mary for being pregnant out of wedlock, Hannah could have gotten angry with the Lord and refused to talk to Him, and Jael could have let Sisera live. These women chose the good and did excellently...surpass[ing] them all..

The sculptor Pygmalion has fallen madly in love with his statue of Galathée and accordingly does not want to sell it to Mydas, a patron of the arts. Instead he prays to Venus, the goddess of the love, that the statue be brought to life. The wish is granted but Galathée turns out to be a very independent-minded creature. She is unfaithful to Pygmalion with his servant Ganymed (because he is much more pleasing to her than Pygmalion) and does not reject Mydas, who offers her jewelry. When Pygmalion catches Galathée in a compromising situation, he successfully implores Venus to turn her back into stone. The jewelry offered by Mydas is also turned into stone, but the whole statue is sold to him.
