Small Ensemble Cello,Clarinet,Flute - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.787340

Composed by Greg Bartholomew. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 18 pages. Burke & Bagley #2807579. Published by Burke & Bagley (A0.787340).

Music for Toys & Dreams was commissioned by the Farrelly Ensemble for their performance at the 2016 Unbound Flute Festival in Brisbane, Australia. With a childlike simplicity, the piece evokes music heard while napping, as we drift in and out of dreams, with melodies interrupted and fragments of distant stories interwoven. Each instrument becomes the child's voice for a toy, sometimes telling its own story, sometimes reacting to another toy's story, and sometimes enacting a story jointly with the other toys. It starts with the toys waking up, or with a child picking up different toys and introducing them to us. Initially the child is animating the toys, and then the toys begin to animate themselves within the child's dreams.

Duration:  ca. 6 minutes.

Composed by Matthew Scott Phillips. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 25 pages. Matthew Scott Phillips #6213101. Published by Matthew Scott Phillips (A0.1004160).

Inspired by David Levinthal’s photography and esthetic, The Cold Comfort of Toys presents a musical look into the use of toys, dolls, and action figures to attempt to come to grips with aspects of the human psyche that are traumatic, uncomfortable, or emotionally exhausting. This piece, like these toys, is not innately any of those things, but seeks rather, to stylize their portrayal in a way that makes these aspects relatable, and capable of being endured.

About the Piece
T'was the day after Christmas and magic was in the air.
The toys had been played with and were thrown about without care.
but with a bell's magic jingle, they suddenly came alive,
and moved to gather three, four, then five.
They began to march in an enchanted parade
Keeping good time like a well-trained brigade.
They continued their hike around the tree with pride
so festive and happy just to be free and alive.
But the magic was waining with the jingle of bells
and the toys disbanded and said their farewells,
Their magic had run out, at least for this year
It would be 365 days before the March of the Enchanted Toys would again reappear.

Composed by Mary Ann Joyce. Celtic,Concert. 8 pages. Mary Ann Joyce-Walter #6207001. Published by Mary Ann Joyce-Walter (A0.989229).

A familiar 19th century Irish ballad by the Irish poet, Eugene Field.  The poem and the music are touching and sad:  there are toys in the attic covered with dust, and the little toy soldier is red with rust, and his musket molds in his hands.  There was a time when the toys were new and Little Boy Blue kissed them and put them there.  He told them not to leave until he came to get them, but - an angel song awakened Little Boy Blue, and the years past.  The faithful toys stayed in the place where he put them, but they wondered sorrowfully what happened to their Little Boy Blue..

March of the Toys is a famous instrumental piece from the operetta Babes in Toyland composed by Victor Herbert in 1903

Composed by Howard Blake. Arranged by Kevin Riley. 20th Century,Christmas,Film/TV. Score and parts. 53 pages. Kevin Riley #720042. Published by Kevin Riley (A0.1118521).

Walking in the Air is a song written by Howard Blake for the 1982 animated film The Snowman based on Raymond Briggs' 1978 children's book of the same name. The song forms the centrepiece of The Snowman, which has become a seasonal favourite on British and Finnish television. The story relates the fleeting adventures of a young boy and a snowman who has come to life. In the second part of the story, the boy and the snowman fly to the North Pole. Walking in the Air is the theme for the journey. They attend a party of snowmen, at which the boy seems to be the only human until they meet Father Christmas with his reindeer, and the boy is given a scarf with a snowman pattern. In the film, the song was performed by St Paul's Cathedral choirboy Peter Auty, and reissued in 1985 (on Stiff Records) and 1987. In 1985, an altered version was recorded for use in a TV advertising campaign for Toys R Us. As Auty's voice had then broken, Blake recommended the then-14-year-old Welsh chorister Aled Jones, whose recording reached number five in the UK Singles Chart, and who became a popular celebrity on the strength of his performance. The association of the song with Jones, combined with Auty not being credited on The Snowman, led to a common misbelief that Jones performed the song in the film. Walking in the Air has subsequently been performed by over forty artists, in a variety of styles. In a UK poll in 2012, the Aled Jones version was voted 13th on the ITV television special The Nation's Favourite Christmas Song.

Composed by Daniel Dade. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 75 pages. Daniel Dade #3545561. Published by Daniel Dade (A0.883410).

Your Mission: Win the battle.

ATTACK OF THE TOY PLANES brings you back to a simple time, a time when all that was on your mind was playing with your toys. ATTACK tells the story of two children playing with their toy airplanes in an intense mock-battle. ATTACK sets up a constantly driving groove with persistent eighth notes and changing time signatures. The battle starts off in a lighthearted way, but as the music unfolds, it delves deeper into the children’s imaginations, creating lifelike scenes of the air battle swirling around them – the planes flying above and the soldiers battling on the ground. Amidst the turmoil of the ending, all the brass falls out except the french horns, as they let out one last battle cry before they are ultimately silenced.
