Teresa Young's transcription of Band of Horses' sweet, confessional I Go to the Barn Because I Like The came about as most do: an adult student with a special relationship to the song wanted to interpret it and couldn't find it. Teresa's student is a pianist with a guitarist husband, so this piano-vocal arrangement includes guitar chord diagrams. Her simple lead sheet version with guitar chord diagrams is available here too. Enjoy this uniquely real ode from a man to the woman he loves and admires. Whew!

SKU: A0.872472

Composed by John Smith/F.S. Key. Arranged by James K. Taylor. Folk,Graduation,Patriotic,Standards. Score and parts. 64 pages. James K. Taylor #2852185. Published by James K. Taylor (A0.872472).

This advanced version of the NATIONAL ANTHEM has many familiar harmonies and walking bass lines, but I have added a few new musical items I think you will enjoy. For one thing, I put a big emphasis on FLAG WAS SITLL THERE!. You are welcome to use your own percussion parts as the ones I have written (with the exception of the mallets) are pretty much traditional.

Instrumentation: picc, flute, oboe, bassoon, clar. 1,2,3, bass clar, alto 1,2, tenor, bari, tpt 1,2,3, horn 1,2,3, trombone 1,2,3, baritone (both TC and BC parts), tuba, mallets, perc (snare, bass drum and crash cym)

The MP3 recording was created with the FINALE sounds. Naturally, it does not reproduce MARCATO style unless I input input all quarters as dotted 8ths. Actually, I start the piece CANTABILE and switch to MARCATO at and the rocket's red glare. I never could get the percussion sounds I wanted so I entered the snare roll as individual notes.

Thanks.

Alongside being a composer, my ambitions also focus on music education. I wanted to mix these parts of my identity in a piece, and to challenge myself, make it another percussion piece. My friend, Bianca, commissioned me to write a solo multi-percussion piece, and so I took ideas from my elementary music methods class, and the instruments you would typically see in an elementary music classroom, and here we are. The performer works double, acting as an elementary music teacher (with more Orff practices) and performing a piece that grows in difficulty over time. Come join the classroom, as the audience also acts as classmates in Ms. Borile’s class.

SKU: A0.987080

Composed by Eric Paul Nolte. Contemporary. Score. 12 pages. Eric Paul Nolte #566749. Published by Eric Paul Nolte (A0.987080).

This piece is one of an album of my contemporary classical compositions. Yes, I too wince at offering you something saddled with this oxymoron--contemporary classical--but this phrase is now an irresistible, commercially recognized category defying any principled protest from the ranks of wounded musicological curmudgeons like me.  The style here employs a tonal palette that celebrates the more or less common practice of composers from J. S. Bach to Ravel, Prokofiev, and the 20th century American songbook.  You will see that I reject Arnold Schoenberg's assertion that by 1910 tonality had exhausted itself, and needed to be reinvented according to an aesthetics that dismiss our scales and harmonies as purely arbitrary human conventions with no basis in nature. On the contrary, I believe that we are endowed by our nature to respond emotionally to our traditional materials of music in the same way as nature equips us to respond to the taste of food and drink. We differ in our taste for savory, sweet, and sour, but it is wrong to say that our very capacity to taste is a merely cultural convention. There is biology, and then physics too! By the same standard, it can't be true that one person's taste for arsenic is as valid as another's taste for beer or kumquats. The major triad is a force of nature, like the sun, wind, and rain! I also like big fat juicy 13 chords, and contrapuntal weaving of melody! I believe the purpose of music is to sway us emotionally, and if it can uplift us too, so much the better! While I am not ashamed to write a bare triad, unadorned by chromatic alterations (much less by clusters of chord collisions) I have nevertheless employed much complicated harmony. Moreover, some passages are written in a spiky harmony that might be analyzed as bitonal, as at the meno mosso section, beginning at measure 112, where the mood I wanted to set inspired me to write the theme in C minor while the left hand climbs up from the bottom of the keyboard in a widely spaced, D-flat 13 arpeggio.  I have composed these pieces with the skills of intermediate to early-advanced pianists in mind. This piece demands the ability to play some counterpoint between two voices in one hand. There is a section that requires one to play moderately fast octaves, but nothing as difficult as the G minor Prelude of Chopin (to say nothing of his harrowing octave Etude from Opus 25!) While there are many polyrhythmic passages, none is more complicated than two-against-three notes. All said, there is nothing here to make your hands (or, I dare say, your ears) bleed. The performing time is around nine minutes and a breath or three. I have a number of videos posted on YouTube.com, I have a website under construction, ericpaulnolte.com, and, since 2011, an occasional blog of my ravings on life, love, and the cosmos, at ericpaulnolte.blogspot.com. You may write me at nolte0125@gmail.com.

Woodwind quintet - Digital Download

Composed by Daniel Baldwin. Score and Parts. 72 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #CMS169. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.CMS169).

9 x 12 in inches.

Dreams of the White Tiger is a work that had a complicated path to completion. Upon receiving this commission, I
contacted several of my friends (Jeff McCray, Matt Morris, and Richard Ramey) and requested lists of the most
highly regarded staples of the wind quintet repertoire. After studying these works, I selected one of my favorite
subjects from Norse mythology as inspiration. Unfortunately, this did not work out as the work wanted to be too
large and I could not reduce it down to a small chamber work.
At that point, I decided to switch gears and find a new source of inspiration, which I found in a poem by James Yates
titled White Tiger Trilogy. I sketched out three movements based on this poem and was, again, displeased with the
resulting work. However, I did very much like many elements from the sketches, so I decided to strip the piece down
to these elements and construct one single cohesive movement. I chose my favorite line from the original sketches
and made that the central theme in an extended sonata rondo movement. I was finally pleased with this product that
included elements from all of the different versions. Dreams of the White Tiger was commissioned by 111 wind quintets in consortium led by my friend Richard Ramey
and is dedicated to all of those who contributed to making this project a reality.

By Nat Cole With N. Riddle Orch. By Mel Torme and Robert Wells. Arranged by Krista Broadway Swider. Classical,Jazz. Score and parts. 5 pages. Krista Swider #743581. Published by Krista Swider (A0.1143220).

This time honored classic Christmas song has been covered by many artists., but I wanted to capture the magic that Ray Charles shares with his audience when he performs this piece. This arrangement finds inspiration from the intimacy and personal touch that Charles brings to his orchestration of this piece, with its jazzy piano chords, shimmering strings, and casual vocal line. The violinist carries the vocal line in this duet, and croons the melody with frequent interjections of double stops that compliment the viola's bass line and harmonies. Together, the two instruments create a rich combination of melody and evolving seven chords that bring depth and personality to an instrumentation that is often under utilized. This challenging violin and viola duet is for advanced players who want more from their sheet music!

Program Notes
Call from Beyond the Waves is a piece in the style of an old sea shanty.  It invokes feelings of being lost at sea and drifting along the waves in the ocean far from shore.  The melody lines are somewhat uneven but feel natural as if they are being sung in the late hours of the night.  Rising and falling passages in the background reflect the waves on these moonlit nights.

This piece was originally commissioned by a wonderful colleague of mine Tim Chernobrov.  He wanted something that would capture the unique sound of the low harmony clarinets. This version is arranged for low flutes.

Instrumentation
Low flute quartet consisting of -
Alto Flute
Bass Flute
Contra Alto Flute

A gentle mountain snowfall…an icy midnight sojourn…the simple, quiet joy of first snow…

I found the perfect voice for the feelings and scenes of winter I wanted to convey in the tiny verses known as haiku.  I’ve always loved haiku. I admire the expressive power that the skilled poet can wring out of such bare economic means.  A scene, painted so poignantly, so vividly—an essence, a sigh, a quick, visceral sketch to capture the deceptively-simple drama of nature revealing itself.  They are epigrams of life. I hope these little morsels of music and words fill you with the essence of the winter season and that I’ve been able to impart some of the enthusiasm and admiration I feel for this wonderful aspect of Japanese culture.

Here's another piece for a student. She likes improvising and composing with ostinato patterns and minimalism-type stuff, so I included repeating broken 3rds throughout the piece. She also asked for the hustle and bustle of downtown, so I tried to express that through honking horns and other sudden accented sounds caused by delivery trucks, subway, police whistles, etc. I wrote it in 5/4 because she wanted more of a challenge than in previous pieces and I mixed in a little Mixolydian and Aeolian into the melody. Enjoy!

For the 2018 Chamber Music Contest Entry

Eternal Bridge was made to be performed by a group of six soloists playing the following instruments: Oboe, Harp, Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass.

It is not a difficult piece once learned.

It is really a great fun for the players and very easy listening too, It covers a very wide range of audience demands. There is a groove feeling on it that makes it very pleasant to most all people.

Because of its plasticity the piece allows many interpretations, therefore I did not made much use of interpretation symbols in order to leave to the performers the freedom of doing their own. Bowing and fingering are left totally virgin at the hands of the schools or the creativity of the performing Artists.

P.S. - The score was written on Finale.

The sound file For the 2018 Chamber Music Contest Entry, was performed with samplers from Garritan and conceived as an audio support for the presentation of the score.

This is the first time that this version is published in Sheet Music Plus.

Thank you very much for taking your time to read this text and to listen to the file.

I hope you have a lot of fun and enjoy the music.

Sheers!

Thanks to Claudia Eppelt for the cover design, all the Love and inspiration.

Special Thanks to Nina and Stray Queen Mimi for my Family, all their Love Patience and Compassion.

„The litle story of the - „Eternal Bridge

Eternal Bridge came out of a dream. Imagine a little railway station, a train that comes and stops, and your friends go inside. As you step on the little stairs to go inside, the doors close letting you out, and the train starts rolling. It speeds up very fast and enough so you can`t jump out of the little stairs back to the ground, you are holding now to the iron bars around the doors of the train, you see your friends and the people inside but they can`t see you, they can`t hear you, and you notice that the train is now on a bridge so high, that you can`t see the earth any more. Wind is blowing around me and I feel this cosmic cold and everything starts to twist around in a gigantic spiral. I still feel the Gravity but it goes in all directions at the same time pushing me violently and I feared to fail the grip on the iron bars and fall down, in an imaginary endless abyss. Little by little the speed of the events slows down progressively until everything freezes. Now, The other side of the bridge does not exist at all, neither the beginning or up or down. The train disappeared in a glimpse and I noticed that I was not falling down, just hanging there out in hyperspace, Free from Gravity. I lost the fear of falling in the abyss, it felt kind a good, because the only thing that I could see was light, pure beautiful bright white light, I was floating in light, I realised I could stay there forever, but then I felt lonely and wanted to come back home. When I finally woke up, I wrote this words in Portuguese and made a song out of it. the words go like:

Ponte eterna abismo sem fundo - Vento ciclónico medo profundo - Comboio gelado lentidão d`aço - Espiral eterna suspensa no espaço - Maos agarram a vida duas barras d` aço - Corpo sacudido em espasmos de medo - Alucinação divina acordar de um sonho

Eternal Bridge endless Abyss - Cyclonic wind deep Fear - Frozen Train slowness of steel - Eternal spiral suspended in space - Hands cling to life on two bars of steel - Body shaken into spasms of fear - Divine hallucination waking up from a dream
