He is not only the most significant and popular composer ever to come out of Latvia; he always speaks to his listeners with a fervent intensity that seems to point to something higher. This higher aspect is without a doubt something that stands above the world of humanity but is also present within each person: divine nature. “I am deeply rooted in nature, in the nature of the North. It influences all of my music. The nature we know is also quite various; we have four very distinct seasons. Orchestraining is a cycle of orchestral studies, each focusing on different aspects of performance. These studies are specifically designed for non-professional orchestras, although any orchestra will improve by playing some of these pieces during rehearsals. It is always necessary to pay attention to intonation and many other aspects of orchestral performance.In addition, these studies are also useful for orchestral conducting students. For example, it is essential to know how to conduct a simultaneous attack of a chord that does not begin on the first beat, but a eighth note after the third beat.I began writing these studies around 2013, when I took over the direction of the Bremer Orchestergemeinschaft and noticed the complete absence of repertoire of this kind. As a pianist, I am accustomed to studies by Carl Czerny or playing scales. Each individual instrumentalist knows studies of technique for their instrument. However, there are no, or at least I am not aware of, similar studies for orchestral performance technique and the specific difficulties of ensemble playing that it requires. The cycle Orchestraining aims to fill this gap.The fourth etude focuses on dynamics: crescendi and diminuendi, exploring the extremes forte vs piano and gradually changing from one to the other one.

About the piece Can't Help Falling in Love is a 1961 song recorded by American singer Elvis Presley for the album Blue Hawaii (1961). It was written by Hugo Peretti, Luigi Creatore, and George David Weiss and published by Gladys Music, Inc. (The melody is based on Plaisir d'amour, a popular French love song composed in 1784 by Jean-Paul-Égide Martini). The song was initially written for a woman as Can't Help Falling in Love with Him, which explains the first and third line ending on in and sin rather than words rhyming with you. Can't Help Falling in Love was featured in Presley's 1961 film Blue Hawaii. During the following four decades, it has been recorded by numerous other artists, including Bob Dylan on his 1973 album Dylan, Tom Smothers, Swedish pop group A-Teens, and the British reggae group UB40, whose 1993 version topped the U.S. and UK charts. Elvis Presley's version of the song topped the British charts in 1962, spending four weeks at no. 1. The single is certified Platinum by the RIAA, for US sales in excess of one million copies. In the United States, the song peaked at No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 behind Joey Dee and the Starliters' Peppermint Twist and went to No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary chart for six weeks.About the arrangement This arrangement was inspired by the Elvis Presley version in 1962 and also the Pentatonix version recorded in 2017. It has been arranged for choirs that like to perform off by heart as the verse and chorus harmony are the same with very slight additions. The arrangement is for TTBB and piano and my thanks must go to Gareth Giles (pianist, organist, composer and arranger) who helped create the piano part for this arrangement. Toccata & Fugue for Organ (2018)Composed by Aris AntoniadesRunning time: approx. 7' 50'' Writing for Organ always seemed like a very distant dream for me. Born and raised in Cyprus, an isolated Mediterranean island-state in Europe where the religious musical tradition (Greek Orthodox Christianity) relies solely on voices (no instruments used during services), I never had access to an Organ. In fact, to the best of my knowledge, there’s not a single Organ in my entire country. The first time I ever saw one was during my college years in New York – and it was love at first sight! I was fascinated by its sound capabilities, its mechanism, and the sheer skill required to play it. You can, therefore, understand how thrilled I am to have had the opportunity to write for this great instrument. I would like to sincerely thank Shannon Murphy and Austin Philemon for believing in my work, and for commissioning this piece. Both the Toccata and the Fugue are based on the same (but altered) motivic materials. The Toccata is a piece that was inspired by the idea that life is a continuous marathon, represented by the ‘mechanical’ sixteenth-note ostinato figure which never stops – despite the contrapuntal obstacles that are thrown within its path. The motive, however, does transform and adapt along the way, in order to make the best of the situation.  The Fugue, on the other hand, represents the cerebral aspect of life: the concept of choices. The ostinato motive of the Toccata has now morphed into the subject of the Fugue, which will be attacked by some violent chromatic enemies.
