In his short time on earth, he studied law and theology at the University of Ingolstadt, was a cellist in the Mannheimer Hofkapelle and a composer of at least thirty-four symphonies, thirty concertos and several chamber works. Being a member of the Mannheimer Hofkapelle puts Filtz's compositions clear in the Mannheim school along with fellow composers Franz Xaver Richter, Carl Stamitz, Franz Ignaz Beck, Ignaz Fränzl, and Christian Cannabich. His 6 Symphonies Op. 1 are all scored for strings and continuo and consist of three movements - fast - slow- fast. I can't find a recording of Filtz's Symphony Op.1 No.5 in F major or a modern edition of this work. I do hope that you will find this work interesting enough to play and perform. If you do perform it, I would love to hear your recording.

The story of Isaac Newton, one of the greatest physicists, and the apple tree is a legend, but holds some truth. Certainly, Isaac Newton is credited with theories of gravity, mass and motion, concepts that are still supported in the study of physics today. Choir students will enjoy telling this story, adding a little drama, here and there, while learning a bit of history and science. This might even guide them to do further research. The accompaniment can be simple or a little more complicated, based on the availability of an accompanist. Leave out some notes if you must. The students and audience will still enjoy the rockin’ beat. The upper voice (soprano) melody can be performed in unison, but a harmony part (alto) is included, if desired.

This is how his Romanze G-Dur for violin and piano was published in November 1901, a beautiful occasional work, ideal for music lessons or as a tranquil encore after a concert, also in an arrangement for viola and piano.

If the guitar part seems sometimes difficult, play the chords - it works! I suggest you to play it at a lower tempo than Parisotti's tempo. Notice that Parisotti's version is in C minor and the orchestral version is in B minor, sounds great for strings.
