Enjott Schneider in dialogue with Mozart: Even the instrumentation of the nine-minute Mozart-Mantras alludes to Mozart, a co-inventor of the genre of clarinet quintet. With regard to motif, they are based on melodies of the famous aria Non ho colpa from the opera Idomeneo. Motivic fragments taken from it are subject to various repetitions, thus becoming a kind of mantra. This technique, related to minimal music, of processing small motivic particles does not remain meditative at all but still leaves room for the clarinet to sing. In the middle movement, Adagio, the clarinet plays an original quote from Mozart's moving aria for mezzo-soprano. Enjott Schneider studied music and German studies and is professor of music theory and film composition in Munich. His extensive activities as a composer, performer, music writer and lecturer make him a versatile figure of the musical world.

Then by an unexpected stroke of luck, I stumbled across this one in a choral book, and was transported back to high school to the first time I had heard it: it was the first time I ever heard one of my best friends sing. Then, as now, I was moved by the lyrics and the easy folk tune melody, and in that instant, I knew. This was the one. From there, the vocal parts seemed to write themselves. I contributed vocals of my own in order to heighten the impact of the cluster chords and to further enhance the song's themes. I hope the music provides as much joy as it did for me writing it and singing it.

Different animals in various locales introduce the student to numerous styles. In this piece the koala introduces the lullaby style. There is an 'Actual Factual' page on the back explaining in depth the theory of the piece and facts about the koala. These 'Actual Factual' pages are on the backs of all solos in this 'Noah's Ark Series' in hopes that the student can make a project of this in school in science or social studies culminating in his/her performance of the piece on a portable keyboard. 'Koala Lullaby' perfectly fits the animal that sleeps more per 24-hour period than any other animal, so it was easy to assign the lullaby style to him. One thinks of koalas and kangaroos when Australia is mentioned so this is the locale for both my koala and 'Joey the Wallabee Kangaroo'. This and other pieces in the series are great for recitals-especially animal or global themed and perfect for contests and festivals.
