I am 17 years old and this the very first composition I have ever written. My vision for the world is to try and help people keep positive no matter how bad or how unbarring the situation may be. There are many people on the planet that have issues that need to be dealt with and I believe that one way that they can help themselves is by trying to thing of the times where things weren't so bad. Even if they were bad, those memories should be the reminders to help you grow throughout life. This is the message that I am trying to portray with Those Memories. At the age of 15, I had a vision to help people not to forget the good and the bad moments of their lives because once the memories are forgotten, people will never be able to go back and tell stories about how they developed and came to be. â€ƒSome of the lyrics were picked from a poem that was written 4 years ago in 2016 called One Brief Moment by John Fleming. The poem was found on a website that provides poems to those who like reading poems. The website is called poetrysoup.com and I think it's a pretty cool website for poem readers, so if you like poems and you want something new, you can go there and check it out. I hope you all enjoy the piece as much as I had fun writing it. Haha.

Samuels (A0.828663). 2020 SMP Press Composition Contest Entry for both the Contemporary and Sacred instrumental ensemble categories:  For this easy arrangement (alternatively entitled, The Last Post at Eventide), the original Eventide hymn is transcribed for brass quintet, setting 2 trumpets to play the soprano & alto parts, the horn & trombone to double the tenor part, and the tuba (or a 2nd trombone) to play the bass part. Then a final variation verse is added, in which the 1st trumpet plays a slightly-modified version of The Last Post as a descant, while the other 4 brass instrumentalists play a slightly different setting of the Eventide hymn. (Consumers of Canadian Brass books of easy arrangements of hymns & Christmas carols will be familiar with this similar approach.)  A piano/vocal hymn-style part is included for congregational singing. The approximate playing time is 3 minutes, depending on the number of verses and repeats required for a performance.

This arrangement for wind quintet (i.e., flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet/bassoon and horn), SATB choir and/or keyboard/organ is based on a combination of 2 Canadian Brass quintet arrangements of O Sacred Head, Now Wounded and Ah, Holy Jesus.  (When a bassoon is used instead of a bass clarinet, the bassoonist may play from the part marked Bass/Pedal, extracted from the Octavo.  Some bass singers should switch to the Bass/Pedal line in the Octavo when starting to sing the portion for Ah, Holy Jesus.)The performance in the YouTube video is 4:18 long and consists of the first verse only of O Sacred Head, followed by 3 verses of Ah, Holy Jesus. Of course, all 3 verses of O Sacred Head may be performed first, which increases the performance time to approximately 6 or 7 minutes.

He is said to have composed more than 550 pieces and made over 4500 arrangements. At times he used various pseudonyms such as Florence Reed, Andrew Herman and Theodore Moses under which many of his works were published. This version of The Star-Spangled Banner was the encore piece of a work he called Grand American Fantasia a medley of American songs that was first published in 1906 (when The Banner was still referred to as the unofficial American hymn.) In his arrangement Moses-Tobani wrote (what I call) flying woodwinds--the flutes and clarinets are racing through the skies while the rest of the band plays their boring parts. The words to The Banner are from the poem Defense of Ft. McHenry by Francis Scott Key; the music is derived from To Anacreon in Heaven a popular British and American pub song by John Stafford Smith.
