Each duet is a light-hearted portrait of a different Halloween character. Witches, ghosts, vampires and other favourites appear, with biographical details on each title page. The duets cover many musical styles, from classical to jazz and beyond.

SILENT NIGHT - 1/2/3 Bb TREBLE INSTRUMENTS with Piano Accompaniment

This is a flexible arrangement! Suitable for any combination of Clarinet, Trumpet, Soprano Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, and Baritone Treble Clef. Could be used for school, church or community.

It can be presented with 1, 2 or 3 instruments (or more!) and it is possible to play 1, 2 or all 3 verses.

The First part plays the melody all the way through and the part is identical on all 3 verses except for the key.

The Second part adds harmony to verses 2 and 3.

The Third part adds an obligato part on the Introduction and Verse 3. (this could be a teacher/adult/advanced student part if the other part(s) are played by students)

Parts for Flute (part 2) and Violin/Glockenspiel (part 1) have been added - just in case!

To contribute to the feel of a Silent Night, the piano part has been kept intentionally simple. Verse 3 can be played without the piano part, if desired, to add dramatic impact to the last verse. You can use any verse by itself, as each is a self-contained unit. If you want the melody alone, you can skip the Introduction to Verse 1 and start right on Measure 5 with the melody (you could even leave out the piano part!) There is an alternate Part 2 that is transposed up an octave for Tenor Saxophone or Clarinet. There is an alternate part 3 that is transposed down an octave. I wanted to provide you with the flexibility to match the parts to the players.

2015 Piano Contest This piano rag honors a rock formation in SW Boulder by that name. An area in town, also bearing that name, is near that rock formation. I had two friends who lived there when I wrote this rag. (One still lives there - the other died a few years ago). Typical upbeat toe-tapping ragtime music. Joy to the World is a much-loved Christmas carol. This version is arranged as a duet in a Jazz Swing style for one Clarinet and one Alto Clarinet. Click on the YouTube link above to listen to a full length performance of this arrangement played on Clarinet.

The lyrics of Joy to the World were composed by Isaac Watts in 1719, while the most popular melody associated with the carol was composed by Lowell Mason in 1843. Mason was an admirer of G.F. Handel and the similarity of the melody to parts of the Messiah have been pointed out by many commentators.

With a performance time of around two and a half minutes, this version of Joy to the World is perfect for seasonal celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal. The jazz style is a fun, fresh and soulful take on this familiar tune.

Joy to the World is arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. There is plenty of articulation detail to help deliver an authentic style. The melody is played two and a half times, with a short chiming intro and outro. This arrangement is suitable for players at an intermediate level.

La Rejouissance (from Heroic Music) - Georg Philipp Telemann - Brass Choir, Timpani - Intermediate - Digital Download.

Heroic Music (or Heldenmusik) is a suite of twelve short marches and processionals, written by Georg Philipp Telemann in 1728, and is associated with various attributes of Heroism such as Dignity, Bravery and Alertness. All twelve movements have now been transcribed and arranged by Regis Bookshar to be played by Trumpet Quintets or Brass Quintets. Some of them have also been arranged for Sextets, Septets, Octets, Nonets and Brass Choirs. Some also include a Timpani. They can be purchased individually, or, if you prefer, as a complete set of all twelve at a huge saving.
Any of these selections would be a wonderful addition to any music library. They are perfectly suited to recitals and public performances, can stand alone as short interludes and are generally well received by audiences. They are suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing these arrangements. These selections are some of the many from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time. In the past, these compositions have often been performed by a soloist playing on a Piccolo Trumpet, but these new arrangements are Bb Trumpet friendly as one player stated after playing through them, making them much easier for most high school students.
This selection, La Rejouissance (from Heroic Music), is arranged for a Brass Choir with parts for 3 Bb Trumpets, 1 French Horn, 1 Trombone, 1 Euphonium and 1 Tuba and a Timpani, and is associated with the heroic quality of Joy. There is also a version without the Timpani, if you would prefer. The parts may be doubled as needed. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (16 pages).
Many of these selections are readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may find something else that may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as well, as there are numerous selections in a variety of styles, also available for purchase. The Trumpet Tune and Air was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop.  Written around 1700, for many years this piece was attributed to Henry Purcell. But more recently many have questioned whether the composer was in fact Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. What is known is that the piece was written for a semi-opera called The Island Princess, and that both men contributed music to the production. In recent years this piece has become a popular wedding favourite.

 This full version is arranged as a duet for Flute and Violin and the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored. The short sample here and the full length version on the youtube link are from the Clarinet and Alto Saxophone version of this arrangement.

Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. There are of course separate piano and instrumental parts included in downloaded the file.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with strict time, full tone and dynamic contrast.

There's a sadness to this piece. Some things never change. The same theme keeps returning. There are places in the music where it seems like something different might happen, but then it goes back to the same old story. Things do change over time, but consciously seeing what needs to change in oneself requires awareness and effort. It is definitely worthwhile to make the effort to change and grow.

Tips:
1. Measure 13 is a good example of melodic minor as scale degrees 6 and 7 are rasied by a half step on an upward scale run, and then lowered on the way back down.
2. Measures 23-27 is an example of a sequence. I recommend making the catchiness and repetition as obvious as possible as the audience is expecting the sequence to complete. For example, if there is a slur happening on a certain beat, I'll make sure it is mantained for every repetition, which is why measure 20 is more difficult with a fretted B instead of an open string. It's more work, but it sounds better to my ears.
3. There is a certain order that the right hand fingers should be following depending on if you are going to thicker or thinner strings. Since this is an etude designed to get a player used to classical guitar technique, it made sense to show the a novice finger-style player which right hand fingers to use and when. Green Green Grass is a song by British singer-songwriter George Ezra. It was released on 22 April 2022, as the second single from Ezra's third studio album Gold Rush Kid. The song reached number three on the UK Singles Chart, becoming Ezra's seventh top ten song there and was nominated for the Brit Award for Song Of The Year at the 2023 Brit Awards. The song was inspired by a 2018 Christmas holiday trip to St. Lucia by Ezra and his friends.[2] About the lyrical background of the song, Ezra explained, there was a street party going on, with three different sound systems, people cooking in the street. I asked a woman what was going on and she told me it was a funeral – for three people. They were celebrating three lives! I thought: that is not how we do this at home. And it's really beautiful.
