All of my past attempts at composing felt like learning to walk, but this piece showed me that I could run. Commissioned by my friend James, I set out to write a piece he would love to play and I would love to listen to. He was looking for a more heroic feel, so I had the performer switch to the trumpet after the cadenza to change the tone color and really sing out that higher melody.
