Here are the program notes of Trombotriptych for solo Trombone and Percussion by composer Brian Kershner.Trombotriptych is the first piece I have written for the trombone in the main, solo role. I decided to mount the work as a duo with limited percussion, one player, and just two instruments, Woodblock and Bongos. The piece allowed me to learn about and explore the many extended techniques that the trombone can produce. I was grateful to work with the person, for whom the piece was written, Topher Logan, as this is such an immense help. The trombone is capable of great, almost oratorical power, as well as sweet, horn-like lyricism. There are portions of the piece which utilize a couple of different mutes, and the open and closed colors of the Harmon mute, slide and position changes for timbre color, glissandi, as well as multiphonics, which on this instrument are produced by using the voice, singing while playing. There are contrasting tempi in the work, including a middle section which seems barless, although is notated traditionally, and an up tempo section toward the end with exciting interplay between the instruments. It is hoped that the work captures the many sides of this most noble, heroic, and yet vocally pure member of the brass family.The music is appropriate for very advanced performers and is about 9 minutes in length.

Their part doubles the violin/viola parts in most places, but there’s a part near the middle where their part varies to add complexity to the counterpoint. 6.      The foundational violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar, and trumpet parts (normal sheet music) are in unison. They are a mixture of melody/harmonic writing and the bass parts. These parts should be played alongside 2 and 3 listed above. (4 and 5 too if you can!) 7.      The Foundational Notes sheets are one note per measure. In this piece, they are the main tonic chord tones. Over the past couple of years I have written a number of film music transcriptions on and for the organ of the Royal Albert Hall in London. While the transcriptions are written with this organ in mind, often calling for specific colours such as the bass drum, carillons or tubular bells, they are adaptable on a number of different instruments and I’ve loved tweaking them in order to play them on organs all across the world. I hope you enjoy playing them as much as I’ve enjoyed writing them! One of the soundtracks that I get asked to perform most regularly is Test Drive by John Powell. This is one of the earlier transcriptions I wrote, and I often use it as a piece to illustrate the difference between different organs. It’s quite useful to have one piece to use as a comparison point, so I post little videos of this wherever I’m playing to demonstrate how radically different the same piece of music can sound depending on the kind of instrument. For me, this piece feels like an instant serotonin boost. There is a great crescendo where you get to take the organ from relatively quiet to earth-shatteringly loud over the course of about 30 seconds, and I always say that playing that part feels a bit like flying a dragon! - Anna Lapwood

The song became better known as The Postman Song instead of the more common title Because I Love You. This arrangement is in a key that works better instrumentally.

Published by D-Project Co., Ltd. (A0.1415470). This is a piece for string quartet and marimba. The marimba is not a soloist but integrated into the ensemble. It's an instrument that resonates the wood directly, whereas string instruments make it vibrate. It's this blend that interested me.As for the piece itself, I started with cells, melodic melismas that I repeat, which transform like a sort of gigantic metamorphosis. There's a brilliant section in the middle, which is a bit like lace, organic and more raw than at the beginning. For the finale, the strings continuously vibrate open strings to give the impression of an orchestra tuning. Il s'agit d'une pièce pour quatuor à codes et marimba. Le marimba n'est pas soliste, mais intégré à l'ensemble. C’est un instrument qui fait raisonner le bois directement alors que les instruments à cordes le font vibrer, c'est ce mélange qui m'intéressait.Pour l'œuvre en elle-même, je suis parti de cellules, de mélismes mélodiques que je répète, qui se transforment comme une sorte de gigantesque métamorphose.Il y a une partie brillante au centre, qui est un petit peu en dentelle, organique et plus brut qu'au début. Pour le final, les cordes vibrent à vide en permanence pour obtenir l'impression d'un orchestre qui s'accorde.
