Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1027006 Composed by Denis Kleimenov. Classical,Jazz,Latin. Score. 40 pages. Vechera #632491. Published by Vechera (A0.1027006). The themes included in this collection were kept for a long time in a music manuscript notebook that traveled with me around the globe (Astrakhan - Turku - Vladivostok - Qingdao) and crossed the equator twice. The spirit of travel impregnated the pages of this notebook and inspired me for the search of fresh musical ideas. These different themes sound close to near-jazz style, and they are written for free performance. Based on harmony and melodic line, the performer is free to improvise and interpret themes to his liking, add new instruments and create his own arrangements. Historically, in jazz, the main melodic idea of a piece is called a theme. There is a theme, so you can improvise. Following this tradition, I have named my collection 7 Silver Themes.

Choral Choir (4-Part) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.934373 Composed by Luis Cardoso. Contemporary. Octavo. 140 pages. Luis Cardoso #6168163. Published by Luis Cardoso (A0.934373). Challenged by my friend André Granjo, I wrote this piece for Wind Instruments Group of Coimbra (GISC), where André is now conductor. It is expected to be premiered during the first months of 2013, in collaboration with internationally renowned saxophonist Jean-Yves Fourmeau. I've been teenager GISC saxophonist, and with the group traveled through several European cities, which otherwise would have been impossible for me. I dedicate the Martim’s Legend to GISC and Professor Adelino Martins, who directed the group for decades, until his retirement this year. I related his name with a book I read, A Lenda de Martim Regos written by Pedro Canais and published in 2004. Martin, the main character, is born in Ribatejo (Portuguese province) in the fifteenth century, and his fate led him through Africa, America and Asia. Its amazing fictional story inspired me this music, because of travel, discovery, persistence and distracted absorbing knowledge.

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.773330 Composed by Various. Arranged by Yoel Epstein. Christian,Contemporary,Jewish,World. Score and parts. 37 pages. Yoel Epstein #4285845. Published by Yoel Epstein (A0.773330). These six songs have become icons of remembrance of the six million Jews who died in the Holocaust. They are traditionally played on Holocaust Day, which is on the 28th day of the Hebrew month of Nissan in Israel, or January 27th in the rest of the world. Unter Dyne Vyse Shteren (Under the Starry Sky) was written by Avraham Sutskover, a leading Yiddish poet, while trapped in the ghetto of Vilna, in July 1943. Days before the ghetto was destroyed and all the Jews murdered, Sutskover escaped to the forest with his wife. He reached Russia, and in 1947 moved to Palestine. He died in Israel in 2010 at the age of 96. The poem was set to music by Avraham Brodna, a simple laborer in the Vilna ghetto who died in a concentration camp. Ani Maamin (I Believe): The words to this simple song are of the Jewish prayer I believe with perfect faith in the coming of the Messiah. The tune is attributed to Azriel David Festig, a leading Warsaw hazzan (cantor) who died in the Holocaust. The song was performed after the war by Rabbi Shaul Yedidia Eliezer Taub, the Admor (Rabbinical leader) of the Modzitz Hassidic sect, and has become the iconic song of the remembrance in the Hassidic community. Shtiller Shtiller (Hush Hush) was written by Alexander Volkovitzky, then a 12-year-old boy, in the Vilna Ghetto in the spring of 1943. Volkovitzky, who wrote the melody for a song contest organized to encourage the cultural life of the ghetto, eventually came to Israel where he (under the name Alexander Tamir) became a leading pianist and music educator. The words are by Shmerke Kacserginsky, a leading poet of Vilna, who later escaped the Holocaust and migrated to South America. Papirossen (Cigarettes) actually predates the Holocaust by 15 years. It was written by Yiddish actor and composer Herman Yablokoff in 1922 in Grodno, Poland. Yablokoff later immigrated to America, where he produced a musical Papirossen that incorporated the song. It was later made famous by the Barry Sisters, a Yiddish popular music group. Donna Donna was written by Shalom Secunda, with words by Aaron Zeitlin for the Yiddish musical Esterke in 1940. Though the song originally related to the 600-year-old legend of a Polish king who married a Jewess, it quickly became associated with the Holocaust because of its haunting message. The song has entered the popular folk repertoire, with canonical renditions by Joan Baez, Theodore Bikel, and many others.  Hatikva (the Hope) is Israel's national anthem. The words are by Naftali Zvi Imber, and the tune is a traditional eastern European tune.  You are welcome to try some of my other arrangements. In addition to the songs offered on this site (you can see them at http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/search?Ntt=Yoel+Epstein ), I have arranged three songs from the Holocaust, which I arranged and distribute for free on IMSLP. You can find them at http://imslp.org/wiki/Category:Ravpapa. If you need arrangements of any of these songs for special combinations of instruments, feel free to contact me, and I will try to accommodate. Write me at yoelepst@gmail.com. Hope you enjoy.

My fascination with the culture of the Navajo Native Americans and their healing ceremonies based on harmony and beauty motivated me to listen to ethnographic recordings of their songs, which are customarily accompanied by rattles and drums. A number of these songs inspired me to create two works for different instrumental ensembles for students at the Conservatoire de Versailles. Both pieces represent miniature versions of ceremonial events. Thierry PécouThierry Pécou's interest in ethnomusicology is reflected in this piece. Music Of Our Time. Downloadable, study score. Duration 35 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q2283. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q2283). English.Karl Amadeus Hartmann wrote his first symphony in 1935/36. At that time he was still an unknown musician whose works stood no chance of being performed and who could not hope to find encouragement in his native Germany. He had to wait more than ten years for its first performance, which finally took place in Frankfurt in the spring of 1948 under the direction of Winfried Zillig. I was 21 at the time, and the work left an extraordinarily deep impression on me, an impression that marked the beginning of my admiration for Hartmann's music and its very special kind of intellectuality, which struck me as both important and significant: by this I mean its spontaneous and unrefracted immediacy, its honesty and straightforwardness – qualities that extend beyond this composer's works and affect his whole surroundings, including his fellow human beings. All Hartmann's works, moreover, contain an essential element of the art of compostion, namely, an exact correspondence between the artist's insistent need to express himself and the instrumental resources that he chooses. A superficial listener might perhaps fail to notice at first that the huge orchestral apparatus that Hartmann conjures up exactly matches his powerful expressivity and the colourful nature of his rhetoric. There is also the expansiveness and physically charged vitality of the native of southern Germany, a man capable of combining his own sense of inwardness with the beauty of the moment and a feeling of hymnic grandeur. It is a combination that reflects his own south German countryside and that answers a need to communicate sustained by his own unwavering faith in humanity. - Hans Werner Henze, in: Hartmann: Kleine Schriften.

Brandon Nelson #1954831. Published by Brandon Nelson (A0.912904). PRN, in this case, has numerous meanings. P, R, and N refer to types of harmonic progression within Hugo Riemann’s theoretical system. Starting from a given triad, P moves to the parallel major/minor triad, R goes to the relative major/minor triad, and N, if the previous chord was major goes to the minor subdominant and, if minor, goes to the major dominant. These relationships are exploited as the fundamental harmonic and melodic building blocks of the piece. Rhythmically, the PRN is regarded alphabetically. P is the 16th letter of the alphabet, R the 18th, and N the 14th letter. The distance from P to R is two letters and the distance from R to N is five letters. Taken with the difference between the two relationships (three), these are used to determine rhythm metric and proportional fashions. PRN also refers to the medical term pro re nata, or take as needed. As a nurse, PRN medications are a common encounter and serves in this case as a nod to my other professional vocation and my passion for healing. Learn more about me at: bnelsonmusic.wordpress.com.
