Composed in 1813, and publised in 1889, Schubert's wind octet D72 is incomplete. The minuet and trio, and finale exist, along with a fragment of 100 bars of the first movement. The 2nd slow movement (if there was one) is missing. This is my 4 movement octet: 1.Allegro (finished by me from the “fragment�) 2. Allegretto (from Rosamunde string quartet� 3. Menuetto and 2 Trios (original) 4. Allegro (original) Mvt.1.The fragment seems to show the end of the development, flowing into the recapitulation. I have now completed the first movment, with the expostion starting in F, and 2nd theme moduating into the Dominant C major. An optional repeat has been added, the 2nd time bar has a diminshed 7th chord I have created a new deveopment section in D minor, using themes from the fragment , which then leads into the start of the fragment., which leads to the recapitualtion. This has both themes in F and brings the movement to an end The new movement is 232 bars long. I have made some light tweaks to Schubert's original work. My new 1st mvt. lasts 5 mins 2 seconds without my repeat. (About 7 mins 20 secs with) Check out my other arrangements for wind quartet, wind quintet and wind dectet Mvt.2 is an arrangement of the slow movement of the “Rosamunde� string quartet. I have transposed this into Bb. (NATURAL HORN PARTS in Bb basso)(Hn in F provided) Mvts 3/4 are Schubert’s originals, but the clarinet parts are in Bb, rather than C. The mp3 is of the 1st movement.

The particular incident that lead me to compose this piece was the London Bridge terror attack on the 3rd of June, 2017. It was winter, and a beautiful girl from the suburb of Ormiston in Brisbane, Australia, my current place of residence, was killed by the terrorist that made the attack. Anyone who is empathic may resonate with this piece, as terrorism is something that has impacted every person on this plantet at some time. This is also a rhapsodic piece that must be played Largo and with emotion, and the player must pedal freely throughout.

The second last piece of this album ‘Sunset’ is a depiction of the sun setting after a relaxed Sunday. The piece open with long-sustained chords in both hand which are reflective of the beauty, calmness, and peacefulness of the sun sitting among the landscape in the distance. This is emphasised by the slow tempo and the soft dynamics of the composition. As the piece moves away from the sustained chords, the an arpeggiated pattern is introduced in the left hand which adds some rhythm. The melody floats above this accompaniment and is unhurried and gentle. In the final section of ‘Sunset’ the right hand joins the left with it’s flowing arpeggiated motion to continue the calm and peaceful atmosphere.I don’t watch the sunset often so writing this piece allowed me to think about the feelings I have when I sit there and simply appreciate the beauty of this event that happens every day, something that goes largely unnoticed in our busy lives.

Prayer of Saint Francis is based on the hymn Make Me a Channel of Your Peace by Sebastian Temple, which uses text from a prayer written by Saint Francis of Assisi. Part of the inspiration for the piece comes from Madison CRC, a church I belonged to and worked in for about five years, which was focused on interracial development and combating racism. It is often clear to a person who has belonged to any group of people (for example, a multi-racial church or a choir), that it takes a lot of effort for different people to unite harmoniously to achieve something greater than what any lone person could accomplish. This song is a prayer about unity, about peace between people who are different from each other. Different, in this case, refers to every sort of difference, whether in race, ethnicity, background, social class, gender, sexuality, age, religion, politics, personality, preferences, musical ability, etc. This piece includes different musical styles working in tandem, thus illustrating that differences can work together to create beauty and harmony. Though written by Christians, this is not just a prayer for Christians, but for all of us, that we may treat those around us with love, care, and respect, thus bringing peace to our communities, both locally and globally. I am honored to have had this piece premiered by the Berkshire Choral Apprentices of 2018 at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY.

Thanksgiving is one of the most beautiful of holidays, a holiday filled with joy and music. We Gather Together to Ask the Lord's Blessing: Written in 1597 by Dutch composer Adrianus Valerius to celebrate Holland's victory over Spain, the tune was brought to American shores by the early Dutch settlers. Poet Theodore Baker wrote a new version of the lyrics in 1894, which became the standard Thanksgiving version. Over the River and Through the Wood: Lydia Maria Child, an outspoken abolitionist and advocate for Indian rights, wrote this poem in 1845. It was set to music by an unknown composer. Let All Things Now Living (The Ash Grove) This traditional Welsh melody (Llwyn Onn or The Ash Grove in Welsh) has inspired numerous lyricists to write words to the hauntingly beautiful tune. The poem by Katherine Davis, written in 1939, is the text most associated with Thanksgiving. Amazing Grace: Written by reprobate sailor John Newton in 1779. Known for his profanity, vulgarity and venery, he was imprisoned, beaten, and enslaved, before he reformed, and became a leading minister and hymn-writer. This is one of the most popular hymns ever written. This Land is Your Land: A traditional American tune, made famous by folksinger Woody Guthrie in 1940. Guthrie wrote the words as a rebuff to the song God Bless America, the huge hit by songwriter Irving Berlin. As a counter to Berlin's drum-beating patriotism, Guthrie would occasionally add politically charged verses expressing his support for communism. I hope you enjoy playing this as much as I enjoyed writing it. Itâ??s in the key of A minor to lend itself to the natural resonance of the guitar.This version is intended to be played a little slower and more rubato than the original to bring out the expressive qualities of the melody and character within this instrumentation. Although, it can be played faster like the original if preferred.
