The Little Drummer Boy (originally known as Carol of the Drum) is a popular Christmas song written by American composer Katherine Kennicott Davis in 1941.  First recorded in 1951 by the Trapp Family, the song was further popularized by a 1958 recording by the Harry Simeone Chorale; the Simeone version was re-released successfully for several years, and the song has been recorded many times since. In the lyrics, the singer relates how, as a poor young boy, he was summoned by the Magi to the Nativity of Jesus. I said, Sure!!! He said it would be nice if I would consider a concerto grosso in which the principal players of the orchestra would each get a feature. I agreed that that would be a fine idea. So, on June 18th, 2017, I started working on it. And since I am on summer vacation from teaching I was able to finished the 557-measure work on July 2nd, fifteen days after I started.  In 2018 just before I made plans to get the work recorded I made some revisions. One major change was that I cut the fourth movement out completely. It is now a mere 482 measures long. The work is now in three movements.  1. Introduction; Allegro 2. Presto 3.
