Sympathique was the first hit tune of Pink Martini, an American band founded in 1994 by pianist Thomas Lauderdale in Portland, Oregon. It's two lead singers were China Forbes and Storm Large. The group has been referred to as a little orchestra that performs in a variety of styles including jazz, traditional pop, Latin, and classical.
Released in 1997 and eventually selling over one million copies world wide, Sympathique was given a new lease on life when it was performed by Ashley Park (as character Mindy Chin) on the Netflix comedy series Emily in Paris.
