In his music, Baroque influences can be heard - as well as Irish. His music is very popular with Irish traditional players. This lively and attractive scherzo-like planxty is treated in a classical style, with careful use of articulations, contrasting dynamics and textures. It is possible to select a few different O Carolan pieces for inclusion at a concert. This well-crafted arrangement is  very satisfying to play and is suitable for student or amateur quartets.

It is a piece which is fun to play but a little challenging. It would be very suitable as a choice piece in a competition or as a concert item. A performance suggestion is to precede this with a slower O Carolan composition such as O Carolan's Farewell to music. Audiences will like the rhythmic vitality and the added melodic embellishments!

There is a good variety of textures with effective use of the piano range enhancing the emotion of the piece. It is not overly difficult and is an interesting,colorful and enjoyable piece to perform  A suggestion for performance is to use this as the middle movement in a suite of three O Carolan pieces.

Despite some high notes it is suitable for students and amateur quartets.
