This fourth booklet is dedicated to ensemble playing through five trios and three quartets of various styles (tango, ballad, rock, etc.) appropriate for the end of primary school with a few years of experience and the beginning of secondary school. Some pieces are written in a homorhythmic manner and can constitute an introduction to ensemble music, while others are rather polyrhythmic. They can constitute a first contact with the following techniques and effects: staccato, pizzicato, accent, louré, natural harmonic, percussion or crossed strings. This volume is therefore intended for guitarists who already know the notes in first position. Two pieces include a more advanced part with an introduction to playing in 5th position. These are short pieces that do not present technical challenges other than those allowing you to achieve the effects and play expressively. You will find in the scores indications of nuances, timbre, attack and fingerings which constitute suggestions for work and not prescriptions. Teachers and students are therefore invited to make interpretation choices different from those proposed or to try to convincingly render those already written. The pieces were composed or arranged by UQAM music education students as part of a course aimed at equipping musicians for teaching guitar in the school system. Many of them are musicians from different backgrounds (composition, performance, world music, etc.), which explains the creativity found in the pieces. All the pieces have been the subject of an audio recording available on the Productions d’Oz website and on YouTube. Search for À vos guitares, prêt, joue! Vol. 4.Isabelle Héroux, editor, professor, Department of Music, UQAM.Louis-Edouard Thouin-Poppe, assistant editor, arranger and engraver. Trombone Quartet Trombone - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1266548 Composed by Solage. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Contest,Early Music,Festival,Historic,Medieval. 8 pages. Jmsgu3 #859221. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1266548). Solage's ballade Le basile de sa propre nature is a significant work in the history of medieval music. Here are some of its historical significances:1. It is one of the twelve surviving works attributed to Solage, a French composer who lived in the late 14th century. Solage's works are known for their complex rhythms, intricate harmonies, and expressive melodies.2. Le basile de sa propre nature is a four-voice ballade that features a text about the mythical creature known as the basilisk. The lyrics describe the basilisk as a monster that kills everything it sees with its deadly venom. The music is characterized by its intricate rhythms and harmonies, which reflect the text's vivid imagery.3. The ballade is preserved in the Chantilly Codex, a manuscript that contains a collection of French secular music from the late 14th century. The Chantilly Codex is one of the most important sources of medieval music, and it provides valuable insights into the musical practices of the time.4. Le basile de sa propre nature is an example of the Ars subtilior style, which was a highly experimental and complex musical style that emerged in the late 14th century. This style was characterized by its use of intricate rhythms, complex harmonies, and unusual notational practices. The Ars subtilior style was highly influential in the development of later musical styles, and it remains an important part of the medieval musical canon.Overall, Solage's ballade Le basile de sa propre nature is a significant work that reflects the complex and experimental musical practices of the late 14th century. Its vivid imagery, intricate rhythms, and complex harmonies make it a valuable contribution to the medieval musical canon.Lyrics:All those he sees he kills suddenly,For his venom is deadly. He is a basilisk by his own nature,And he has no other way of being. He is a monster of great power,And he is feared by all who know him.He is a creature of the earth,And he is a master of death. He is a basilisk by his own nature,And he has no other way of being. All those he sees he kills suddenly,For his venom is deadly. He is a creature of the night,And he is a master of the dark.He is a monster of great might,And he is feared by all who hear his name. He is a basilisk by his own nature,And he has no other way of being. All those he sees he kills suddenly,For his venom is deadly.Solage was a French composer and probably also a poet who lived in the late 14th century. He composed the most pieces in the Chantilly Codex, which is the principal source of music of the ars subtilior, a manneristic compositional school centered on Avignon at the end of the century. Solage is an obscure composer, and aside from what can be deduced from the pieces attributed to him in the Chantilly Codex, nothing else is known about him. There are several interpretations of his name, and it is not clear whether his first name was Jean or Charles. The ars subtilior was a manneristic compositional school centered on Avignon at the end of the 14th century. It was characterized by complex rhythms and pitch, and it was a transitional period between the late medieval and Renaissance periods. Solage was one of the composers who fit into this school, and he composed the most pieces in the Chantilly Codex, which is the principal source of music of the ars subtilior. Stylistically, Solage's works exhibit two distinctly different characters: a relatively simple one usually associated with his great predecessor and elder contemporary Guillaume de Machaut, and a more recherché one, complex in the areas of both pitch and rhythm, characteristic of the ars subtilior.

Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.894398 Composed by Zack Richards. Contemporary,Folk,Holiday,Patriotic. Score and parts. 66 pages. Zack Richards #5319661. Published by Zack Richards (A0.894398). I originally wrote a Brass Band version of this work to be performed by the Freedom Brass Band of Northeast Ohio in the summer of 2011 knowing that I wanted it to be connected to a well-known patriotic text. It quickly became my most popular work and I decided to arrange it for Concert Band in 2018. Because it was adapted from a Brass Band setting, some of the instrument ranges are more advanced, but can still work for an advanced high school or college band. From a young age I found inspiration in Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. As a Boy Scout, I had read it at an annual service on Memorial Day. I had also studied it in school and even heard it spoken by a Lincoln impersonator. The words from this address speak to the ideals of human equality and freedom, and honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect those ideals. Lincoln refers to this sacrifice as the last full measure of devotion and it is to those men and women who so bravely sacrificed that I dedicate this work.  The Score is formatted 11x17All parts are 8 1/2x11Instrumentation:PiccoloFlutes with divisiOboeBassoon1st, 2nd, and 3rd Bb Clarinets with divisiBass ClarinetAlto SaxophoneTenor SaxophoneBaritone Saxophone1st, 2nd, and 3rd Bb Trumpets with divisi4 French Horns in F2 TrombonesEuphonium (Treble and bass clef provided)TubaTimpani (4)Crash CymbalsSnare DrumBass DrumAdvanced IntermediateApprox. 7:00Visit zackrichards.com for more from this composer.

Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1133721 By Various. By Anonymous, Claude Gervaise, Claudin de Sermisy, Erasmus Widmann, Giorgio Mainerio, Henry VIII, Juan Del Encina, Michael Praetorius, Pierre Attaignant, Pierre Phalese, Thoinot Arbeau, Tielman Susato, and William Cornysh. Arranged by Alastair Lodge. Early Music,Folk,Historic,Medieval,Renaissance. 50 pages. Wold Meridian #733832. Published by Wold Meridian (A0.1133721). This is a companion to my earlier volume Chording to the Dance Masters which presented 44 of my favourite Renaissance Dance band tunes and arranged them as a single melody line with chords derived from the original harmony lines. In this volume I have reunited 22 of the pieces with the lower parts in the score, so that with more collaborators, the fullness of the original arrangement can be heard. The chords are still present, so if the ensemble is short handed, and lines are missing, the arrangements will still work. What is more, by contrasting the melody and chords with the full scoring, it should be possible to work some light and shade into performances.  You can hear all the pieces and their chords on YouTube together with contemporary art and historical background material:https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYRWH2nycMkMoIoEYEMVPa_EXY6NVDpNSAs a help to those less confident in playing harmony lines, I have provided links to playlists of videos online for each part of each piece. You will hear the selected line on its own with chords and percussion, with the melody line added on repeats. The final repeat includes the other harmony lines, but the featured line is slightly louder in the mix. The performance starts with a percussion beat introduction to set the tempo.Who were the Publishers and the Dance Masters? What did they do? Sometime around the 1500s, the popularity of dance music exploded in Europe. Dance Masters were collecting chansons and dance tunes from courts and rural parts and were teaching these to new audiences, spreading their arrangements and reflecting the performance styles of the areas from which they had collected the tunes. Publishers were able to take these tunes that were becoming known across the regions and nations and spread them even more widely, thanks to technological innovations in music printing which made it quicker and therefore cheaper to produce collections of these dances in four or more parts. These publishers were often highly accomplished composers in their own right, who were both able to provide distinctive harmony lines and compose new tunes in the style of their sources, feeding the courts with enduring tunes. Composers and printers of this time would often use note values that are double the length of those we would be used to seeing today, and so to make this version more readable, breves have become semibreves or whole notes, semibreves have become minims or half notes and so on. Working with this publication For those just starting out in Early Music, the volume is an ideal introduction, since the ensemble can build from a soloist with accompaniment with the chords alone, and parts can be added in as additional musicians become available. Instrumentation for these pieces was not specified in the original prints. The range of each part is quite limited, and though the harmonies may seem strange at times, key signatures are kind to the less experienced musician. If enthusiasm takes hold, then reproductions of early music instruments are sold by some very talented makers, as well as coming up on auction sites. Otherwise, it is possible to put together a fairly convincing ensemble with recorders, violins, a cello and mandolins, bouzoukis, flutes or guitars and gradually introduce the authentic instruments as they become available.

Guitar,Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.965763 By Lisa Waites. By Lisa Waites. Arranged by Lisa Waites. Children,Film/TV,Praise & Worship,Sacred,Spiritual. Score. 1 pages. Servant Song Music and Ministry #571431. Published by Servant Song Music and Ministry (A0.965763). I wrote this contemporary hymn as a musical prayer response to the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. In liturgical churches, it functions beautifully as a congregational sung response following the Prayers of the People (or even replacing the Prayers of the People). In evangelical settings, it can be sung as a stand-alone worship hymn right after the sermon, or as part of a set of worship songs at the beginning or conclusion of the service. I am a prolific songwriter, and I've been writing music for 35+ years now. Through all of those years, there have only been a handful of occasions where I have felt more like a conduit of the Holy Spirit than the composer of the hymn; this was definitely one of those times. This is Our Prayer is written in the key of F Major, making it highly accessible for beginning church accompanists. It has a moderate tempo, set in a 3/4 time signature with a lilting rhythm. The vocal range is designed for robust congregational singing. The melody line is just one octave, ranging from Middle C to the C above it; the Alto line is just a six note range, from Middle C to the A above. This score includes the piano accompaniment in a strophic, hymn style format, two-part vocal harmony, and guitar chords (which can also assist pianists who play by chord + melody line, instead of by reading the score). The simplicity of this hymn does not detract from its' beauty, however. This is a highly singable, memorable tune with some interesting rhythmic patterns. The lyrics of this hymn are loosely based on Romans 12:12-21 (As far as it depends upon you, live at peace with all people). The words of the hymn are truly a prayer, asking God for peace, but they also remind us that as people of faith, we are invited to participate WITH God in the process of making peace on earth, by how we pray, live, give, and place our trust in God. One lyric reads that we dare to pray for peace; this is an intentional choice on my part, flagging the potential costliness of becoming people who prioritize peace. The week this hymn was released to Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music Unlimited, Reverbnation, and Deezer, it debuted at #30 on the Top 100 Contemporary Christian Music Charts on Spotify. The YouTube video version of the hymn (link attached below) was viewed over 7,000 times in the first ten days, by people in over 40 countries. You are welcome to stream it for worship services, on church websites, and on social media. The more people view it, the more ad revenue it will generate, and all profits from the sale of this hymn in any form (video ad revenue, digital MP3 sales on the sites listed above, and the sale of this musical score) will be donated to the Red Cross and the United Church of Canada's Mission & Service Fund; both of these registered charities have targeted programs running to assist Ukrainians who've been displaced by the war. Once the Ukrainian war ends, I will continue to send all profits from the hymn to those same charities to help refugees in other conflict zones. May this hymn comfort and discomfort you. My prayer is that it will prompt all of us to live more faithfully as people of peace - in our individual lives, but also in our families, in our communities, our nations, and our world. To God be the glory!

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.719738 Composed by Various. Arranged by Curtis Hanson. Sacred. Octavo. 13 pages. Curtis Hanson #4573123. Published by Curtis Hanson (A0.719738). As years come and go, one increasingly recalls memories of earlier times. One of the most vivid and cherished memories I have while growing up is of Sunday mornings, going to church, sitting in the same pew each week with my grandmother, hearing and singing the beautiful hymns of our faith, and then returning home to the aroma of beef slowly roasting in the oven. My father directed the church choir, my mother and older brothers sang in the choir, so the wonderful music of our faith was instilled in me from an early age. This medley, and others in the series, are arrangements of many of my favorite hymns from those early years, many of which have been lost in more recent editions. For this series, I have mostly elected to use the older texts as that is the way they were first written and the way I first learned them. (See below for more comment on the texts in this set.) There is a reverence and beauty in the language enriching the vocal/choral tone which, I believe, is lost in contemporary, conversational, or politically correct syntax. I shudder to think of the day when a penitential phrase such as Hear thou my prayer, O Lord is rendered as Hey, God-dude, listen up - I'm talkin' atcha! I have also opted not to include the many wonderful hymns and carols which are associated with the major festivals of Christmas and Easter as those are commonly found in other collections. A caveat: I have no delusions, and I offer no pretenses, that these settings are great art. They are simply expressions of faith which I hope may bring a small measure of joy to other church musicians. The hymns in this set are Children of the Heavenly Father, Day by Day, Thy Holy Wings, and Beautiful Savior. A note on the texts in this set: Having grown up in a Swedish Lutheran church, the grandson of Swedish/Norwegian immigrants, and currently being choir director of another Swedish Lutheran church, these hymns have a special place for me. This set was originally arranged for my church choir with the first verse of each in Swedish. Being under copyright, permission was obtained to use the more familiar English translations of the first three songs for local use. For this edition, I have opted to create my own texts for the first and third hymns while the second is a translation in public domain. I have also provided a verse in English in lieu of the Swedish for those Nordically challenged. The fourth hymn is not a Swedish melody but for obvious reasons is a mainstay of the Lutheran hymnal. Like the other hymns, the first verse is in Swedish while the other traditional verses are also public domain.

Piano Solo - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.913945 Composed by Arthur Breur. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score. 4 pages. Floating Home Music #3454291. Published by Floating Home Music (A0.913945). Here is the piece Arthur Breur composed for the family and friends of Zayne Shomler, December 14, 1998 - February 8, 2016.  Prior to performing the piece, he spoke to the assembled mourners with the following prepared text:It does no disservice to laugh or smile - or, yes, to cry - when remembering Zayne. He is a part of your life and always will remain so. You carry him into your future with you.Likewise, it does him no service to unjustly obsess over things that are now unchangeable. Things said that cannot be unsaid. Things done that cannot be undone. Things not done that you feel you should have done. It does not serve Zayne or anyone to beat yourself up over such things, because then you just carry pain and sadness into your future with you, when you could be carrying -and sharing-the joy, the love, and the lessons you learned from having Zayne in your life for the time that you did.All that you can do is what you can do now. Let those who are here now know that you love them and you are here for them. Be here for them now, and be here with them every moment you can into the future. There is a very powerful and meaningful quote by the late author, Terry Pratchett: No one is actually dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away... I personally find great hope and comfort in that saying. Do your best to make as many ripples in the world as possible-heck, make a splash! Touch as many lives as possible. Remember those who created ripples that touched your life, and to keep those ripples going for as long as it is in your power to do so.You carry Zayne into your future with you. In you. You carry him into the future by Remembering Zayne and sharing the good that he brought into your life, so that the ripples he made continue to go out and touch others through you.***As performed by the composer: https://soundcloud.com/arthurbreur/remembering-zayneApprox. 3m20sArthur Breur (BMI)https://arthurbreur.comhttps://twitter.com/arthurbreur
