The work has been transcribed for piano, 4 hands op.34b, for the Duo Pianismo recital in Benetatou Cultural Center of Psihiko in 2010 and for wind quintet op.34c for the Q innegal Wind Quintet Concerts in Athens in 2011 (Attikon OdeionConservatory, Art Gallery Café, Athens, Perigiali Theater, Korinthos). Excerpts of the work has been transcribed for Chamber Orchestra op.34d and performed by Psychiko Youth Orchestra conducted by the composer at Arssakeion Educational Institute Theater in 2016.

Cello,Instrumental Duet,Violin - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1364556 Composed by Socrates Arvanitakis. 21st Century,Contemporary. 84 pages. Socrates Arvanitakis #948849. Published by Socrates Arvanitakis (A0.1364556). GENERAL PREFACE – ΓΕÎΙΚΟΣ ΠΡΟΛΟΓΟΣThis edition of violin and violoncello duets follows closely my publication of the same Greek folk pieces for classical guitar. The arrangements for guitar solo were written in two-part counterpoint and followed the strophic form of the folk songs involved. The melodic transcriptions of the folk melodies were not based in any particular performance, also avoiding the elaborate in many cases instrumental introductions associated with these songs. Thus, only the vocal melodies in a general recognizable version were presented. This new presentation for instrumental duets will stay with this generalised melodic version (without exploiting the instrumental introductions), but the form from strophic will become ternary (ABA). In the middle section the main melody will be played in the lower voice and the original guitar contrapuntal voice will be used in the upper voice if by chance it includes invertible counterpoint, otherwise new material will be added to fit the rules but also the intended harmony. The total collection is centred more on the music from mainland Greece and less in that from the Islands. The three dance rhythms of Kalamatianos (7/8), Tsamikos (3/4), and Syrtos Balos (2/4) are predominant in the whole first collection.TECHNICALSeparate parts have been included and they can be extracted as separate files with any free PDF editing programme on line.Empty pages have been added for inclusion/deletion at will and left-right hand page arrangement.Thematic Index with active internal links for ease of navigation have been added.Audio file (mp3) has been addedCONTENTS81  ΚΑΛΑΜΑΤΙΑÎΗ Η (The Lass From Kalamata)82  ΚΑÎΑΡΙΑ ΤΑ (The Canaries)83  ΚΑÎΕΛΑ Η (Canella)84  ΚΑΠΕΤΑΠΛΟΥΚΑΣ Ο (Captain Lukas)85  ΚΑΠΟΥΤΖΗΔΩΠ(The Guards of The Seven Towers of Salonica)86  ΚΑΡΑΓΚΟΥÎΑ (Karagouna-Thessalian Lady)87  ΚΑΡΠΑΘΙΩΤΙΚΟΣ (Dance from Karpathos)88  ΚΙÎΗΣΕ Ο ΡΟΒΑΣ (Rovas Moved)89  ΚΑΣΤΟΡΙΑÎΟΣ (ΡΟΥΣΟΥΛΕÎΑ)-(Dance from Kastoria)90  ΚΑΤΣΑÎΤΩÎΗΣ Ο (Katsantonis)91  ΚΑΤΩ ΑΠ' ΤΟ ΓΕΡΟ ΠΛΑΤΑÎΟ (Under The Old Plane Tree)92  ΚΑΤΩ ΣΤΑ ΤΣΑΚΩÎΙΚΑ (Down In The Tsakonian Places)93  ΚΕΡΚΥΡΑ ΚΑΙ ΚΕΦΑΛΩÎΙΑ (Corfu and Cephalonia)94  ΚΕΡΚΥΡΑΪΚΟΣ (Dance from Corfu)95  ΚΕΧΑΓΙΑΔΙΚΟΣ (Kehaghiadikos Dance-Island of Lemnos)96  ΚΛΕΦΤΙΚΗ ΖΩΗ Η (The Life of the Klefts).

Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548709). Out of the Depths I Cry to You by Martin Luther arranged for alto sax & piano. The first verses feature modified counterpoint and harmony proceeding at quarter = 82. The final verse is reharmonized for maximum dramatic effect at a more contemplative tempo such as quarter = 64. Features the entire range of the instrument. Very powerful selection for Lent or Easter. Duration (3 verses) 3:05, 36 ms. Score: 3 pg. Solo part: 1 pg. The piano reads from the score. Out of the Depths Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir (From deep affliction I cry out to you), is, of course, a hymn composed by Martin Luther. Moreover, Luther also wrote the lyrics, essentially a paraphrase of Psalm 130. First published in 1524, it is also one of eight songs in the original Lutheran hymnal. It appears likewise in many hymnals and in different translations. The lyrics furthermore stimulated compositions from the Renaissance to the contemporary. Consequently, composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach built an entire chorale cantata on it. Other composers similarly contributed pieces, such as Felix Mendelssohn and Max Reger. Luther Background Martin Luther, (1483 –1546) was a German professor of theology, composer, priest, and moreover, an influential character in the Protestant Reformation. Luther had a momentous impact on church and society due to his contributions to the musical arts. He wanted to disseminate the gospel among mankind and with this intention thought that the best way to do that was through music. Influence It is important to realize that other musicians, and their descendants, were encouraged by Luther’s songs and wrote their own hymns. Luther, to be sure, had a thorough musical education. For example, he knew secular and sacred songs from an early age. He, in particular, played the lute well and sang in the monastery when he was a monk. That is to say, music was an essential part of his life. He in fact first began writing songs in 1523, sometimes writing the melody as well as the lyrics. Luther was certainly able to evaluate the composers of his time. He thought especially highly of Josquin des and Ludwig Senfl. He was also acquainted, with this in mind, with other composers and their works. Legacy The Lutheran musical ethos soon covered all of Germany and later significantly fashioned Protestant musical culture. Heinrich Schütz and Johann Sebastian Bach are the most compelling evidence of this Protestant musical culture. Additionally, as a point often overlooked, the pedal organ, first refined in northern Germany, became universally prevalent. As a matter of fact, Dieterich Buxtehude established a regular evening organ concert series in Lübeck. Another key point is that this concert series, in turn, spread North German Musical ideas worldwide. Luther was especially convinced that music is a beautiful and exclusive offering of the divine.

PLUS: Engraved and Published with Urtext Kapellmeister Music Fonts.Celebrated for his visionary interpretations of J.S. Bach, Víkingur Ólafsson, one of the greatest pianists and musical minds of today, now embraces Bach’s monumental Goldberg Variations. Ólafsson devotes his entire next season to touring the work globally across six continents, while October 2023 marks the anticipated album release on Deutsche Grammophon. “I have dreamed of recording this work for 25 years,†says the Icelandic pianist. The album follows Ólafsson’s hugely successful DG recording of works by the composer, Johann Sebastian Bach (2018), which won BBC Music magazine’s Album of the Year, Opus Klassik’s Solo Recital award, numerous other recording of the year accolades and led to him being named Gramophone magazine’s Artist of the Year. Now Ólafsson brings his unique musical vision, and an affecting, meticulous recorded sound to Bach’s masterpiece. It marks the first time Ólafsson records a complete work and he begins with one of the most demanding in the piano repertoire. Ólafsson dedicates his 2023-24 season to a Goldberg Variations world tour, performing the work across six continents throughout the year. He brings Bach’s masterpiece to major concert halls including London’s Southbank Centre, New York’s Carnegie Hall, Wiener Konzerthaus, Philharmonie de Paris, Tokyo’s Suntory Hall, Philharmonie Berlin, Harpa Concert Hall, Sydney Opera House, LA’s Walt Disney Hall, Sala São Paulo, Shanghai Symphony Hall, Tonhalle Zurich, KKL Luzern, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Mupa Budapest and Teatro Colón, to name a few. “The Goldberg Variations contain some of the most virtuosic keyboard music ever written, some of the most astonishingly brilliant uses of counterpoint in the repertoire and countless instances of exalted poetry, abstract contemplation and deep pathos – all within immaculately shaped structures of formal perfection. In 30 variations, built on the humble harmonic framework of a simple, graceful aria, Bach turns limited material into boundless variety like no one before or since. He is the greatest keyboard virtuoso of his time.†comments Víkingur Ólafsson.

String Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1114979 By Rainer Fabich. By Rainer Fabich. Broadway,Classical,Contemporary,Film/TV,Musical/Show,Opera. Score and parts. 50 pages. Fajora Music #716809. Published by Fajora Music (A0.1114979). Since antiquity, from the Renaissance to the Baroque to the present day, the legend of the fabulous empire of women at the Black Sea has stirred the imagination of mankind and has been expressed in works of music, art, literature and film for centuries. It was decisive in naming the largest river and rainforest in South America when the early Spanish conquerors believed the first humans they saw there were Amazons. Since the 2000s, the topic has also become the focus of feminist research and, remarkably, has also given its name to one of the world's largest high-tech corporations, AMAZON. THE AMAZONS - Myth and Projection thematize elements of this background in a musical way in a work for string orchestra or string quintet. Powerful, pathetic and emphatically rhythmic figures refer to the ancient description of this self-confident, strong and warlike equestrian people. They alternate with baroque, polyphonic and lyrical scenes, like a journey through time with a look back through the centuries. Choral Choir (SATB divisi) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.841250 Composed by Chris Gordon. Contemporary. Octavo. 18 pages. Cool Wind Music Digital #3029087. Published by Cool Wind Music Digital (A0.841250). A setting of a very powerful poem by English poet, Ted Hughes, about the onset of autumn in an English (Yorkshire) garden and the surrounding countryside.  It is full of pathos and passion, harmony and dissonance, chaos and peace - just like English weather! This is a very individual and innovative choral setting of Hughes' poem which is, itself, rich in 'meaty' metaphor and colour - and the composer is a vegetarian! It evokes a savage Nature within a savage landscape where humans and animals compete for space and for food. It is October, the fields and woods and gardens of rural Yorkshire are readying themselves for the cold and desolation (and despair) of winter which isn't far away in time. 'A glass, half-filled with wine, left out(side) To the dark heaven all night, by dawn Has dreamed a premonition of ice across its eye as if the ice-age had begun its heave.'   That is only two and a half stanzas but you see from these lines that there are veiled threats of (Nature's) violence in the heavy tread of the poet's slowly-building angst over what is happening in the surrounding countryside - and his fear grows, and his awe grows, with every line. There is even fear underlining the very last line: 'And now it is about to start.' Winter is creeping closer and closer towards the house and it will not be pleasant to experience!I have tried to instil a little of this in the music which keeps skidding from consonance to dissonance and back to consonance. Sometimes the dissonance piles up, like snow driven by the wind piles up into deep banks; sometimes the music relaxes into stillness and calm (painted in tonal music) like a crisp, mild late autumn or early winter's day when the sun warms the landscape and life appears bearable, tolerable. I hope this adds to the song's 'charm'. It wasn't easy to write: sometimes the right music was elusive. The music ends with the word 'October' repeated three times, with voices overlapping in a little canon. This conjures up the wistful feelings of the poet as he looks out onto a peaceful scene, soon to be filled with all manner of 'natural violence', while his inner peace will soon be shattered by the mayhem about to be unleashed around him.Setting Ted Hughes is no easy task. It is for choirs and choirmasters to judge if I have succeeded in conveying the 'sense and sensibility' of a classic 20th century English poem. The price is for one copy: please purchase a sufficient number of scores if you intend to perform this work. SMP Press offers discounts for multiple-copy purchases.
