A classic Scottish reel (similar to an Irish jig) sees a group of dancers getting together and starting to dance. It starts of quite stable and well controlled but as the energy (and whisky consumption!) increases the dance becomes increasingly frantic, with trombone glissandos providing bagpipe like drone-effects until the final movement where the tempo reaches 260bpm!! The dance finishes abruptly with everyone collapses in a big heap. The cornet's reel on the Thursday night of the Peebles Beltane Festival is one of the highlights of the week and something everyone loves to come along and watch.
