It is thought to date from some time in 1800s from near the city of Culmore, but not much else is known. The city of Culmore was a center for emigration and the lyrics of the song discuss a young man and the search for his love who had moved to America. This version is arranged for 12-bell ensemble by Mark R Lewis for the AGEHR 2022 Composing Masterclass. If played by a quintet or sextet, the piece is simply a matter of counting and keeping track of the melody but if this is played as a trio or quartet, the arrangement will be quite challenging with many instances of a player switching between melody and accompaniment parts multiple times a measure.

Jingle Bossa Bells for Percussion Ensemble is everyone’s favorite Jingle Bells set to a Bossa Nova beat. The sound of claves, maracas and cowbell provide that Latin flavor to the song. The mallet percussion instruments provide the melody and accompaniment with a bit of syncopation to really set the mood. Great for a Christmas or Holiday Concert for a percussion ensemble or as a percussion feature at any band concert. There are 4 mallet percussion parts that require xylophone, vibraphone and a 4 octave or higher marimba – two marimba parts can be played in the same instrument. The marimba 2 part is written in bass clef and an optional treble clef version is also included. Created to insure quick success for new ringers, WORSHIP BELLS hymn trio does not include hymn melody or intricate rhythm patterns. Ringers play 'simple to count' chords for the most part. I use the color-coding method of highlighting the ringer's notes in the handbell chart and then highlighting with the same color the notes in the hymn. Each measure is numbered and if your ringer can count and follow the colors, he/she can ring! For those new to reading music, music instruction begins with identifying 1/4, 1/2, whole notes, dotted notes, repeat signs, and practicing specific rhythm patterns for each hymn. My friend Maestro encourages directors to work on the steady rhythm at a slower metronome reading, around 60 bpm, and working up to 90 bpm. The fermatas should be held for two beats, and there's only one measure that contains any eighth notes. If your players can count, they've got this in a couple of rehearsals, just in time for a Thanksgiving service. There are only 8 bells needed, which means you could cover this piece with only four ringers, two bells apiece. Key of Ab with no key changes, two pages. Performance time: 1:09 minutes.

I understand, from Maestro, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. I’ll reserve comment on that one! This one-octave piece has bells that range from G4 – F#5.  For church, school, or civic organizations.  Key of A, two pages, 1:22 minutes performance time at 90 bpm, but it can be taken faster or slower.
