It's been designed to be played by large or small instrumental ensembles. It uses swing eighth note rhythms and incorporates most of the usual instruments of a concert band or orchestra, or jazz ensemble. Lyrics are not included, however it retains all six verses as it goes through key changes and a D.S. al Coda. Thus the lyrics from a hymn book could be used to sing all six verses. The first verse is a slow chorale style passage. Then it goes to fast tempo jazz style, much like a New Orleans style derge, or funeral march. The piece is 2:45 minutes in length, but could be shortened, by about 50 seconds, by playing straight through without taking the D.S. al Coda.
