Dykes (1823—1876), another Anglican clergymen and composer of the music for nearly three hundred hymns. This edition comes in several arrangements for multiple ensembles. At the moment of the first edition it contains the original choir version (with the 1861 lyrics), a voice and piano version, and arrangements for string, cello, trombone, horn, woodwind, brass, and saxophone quartets. One can think of Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven as a comparison for the variety of dynamics and expressive qualities involved. The introduction is to be tempered with a light touch and feel with accents as what the performer feels is necessary to capture the mood and attitude there. The song begins with a free flowing broken triad and rich bass which has a essence of a darkness of mood which develops and builds the expressive qualities as indicated and transitions in the second movement and has a nice singing melody that portrays a glimmer of hope and freedom from the sometimes challenging trials of life. There is a very bombastic section in the third movement in a forte mode that beacons the breaking free of the things that can limit our human potential such as self doubt and lack of self confidence.
