Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1226025 By African - American Spiritual. By Traditional Spiritual. Arranged by Dennis Ruello. 20th Century,Historic,Jazz,Spiritual,Traditional. 23 pages. Chicory Music #822026. Published by Chicory Music (A0.1226025). Gospel music has infiltrated the New Orleans jazz repertoire since the very early days of jazz. Although gospel songs were traditionally played by jazz bands at funerals or church, it is now common that these songs are also played in secular venues. “Down by the Riverside†is an example of such a song, adapted by jazz musicians to fit the New Orleans jazz or brass band style. It has been a staple in New Orleans jazz since at least the early 1920s. This arrangement for Woodwind Quintet plus optional Acoustic Bass and Drum Set is written in the style of a New Orleans Brass Band, the kind of tune you might hear at a Second Line Parade or Jazz Funeral. Play this piece with the attitude: Laissez les bons temps rouler ( Let the good times roll ). Performance Time: Approx. 2 minutes 40 seconds

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1502478 Composed by Cecil Frances Alexander. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. 19th Century,Chamber,Christmas,Historic,Traditional. 16 pages. Jmsgu3 #1078262. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1502478). Once in Royal David's City is an essential and beloved Christmas carol for several reasons:Historical significance: The hymn was written in 1848 by Cecil Frances Alexander as part of a collection called Hymns for Little Children. The traditional opening of a famous service: Since 1919, this carol has been prominent as the opening processional hymn for the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, held on Christmas Eve at King's College Chapel, Cambridge. The BBC World Service and American Public Media broadcast this service worldwide, giving the hymn global exposure.Unique performance tradition: At King's College, the first verse is traditionally sung as a solo by a boy chorister, chosen by the choirmaster just moments before the service begins. This adds an element of anticipation and showcases young talent.Theological content: The hymn tells the story of Christ's birth and childhood, emphasizing His divinity and humanity. It connects the nativity story to broader Christian theology, making it both a narrative and a teaching tool.Musical qualities: The tune IRBY, composed by Henry John Gauntlett, is widely regarded as beautiful and memorable. Despite its relative simplicity, it has been praised for its intimate scale and inspired melody.Widespread use: Beyond its famous use at King's College, the hymn has become popular in churches of various denominations worldwide, especially during Christmas services.Cultural impact: The hymn has become deeply associated with Christmas in many English-speaking countries, evoking nostalgia and religious sentiment for many listeners. In essence, Once in Royal David's City is essential not just for its content but for its role in Christmas traditions, its educational value, and its ability to connect people to the holiday's religious aspects through music.

String Trio Cello,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1120440 Composed by Traditional English Carol. Arranged by Sandy McIntire. Baroque,Chamber,Christian,Historic,Traditional. 12 pages. Sandy McIntire #721709. Published by Sandy McIntire (A0.1120440). THE COVENTRY CAROL is an English Christmas carol and Christmas lullaby from the 16th century that was traditionally performed in Coventry, England. This carol refers to the Massacre of the Innocents, when Herod ordered the killing of Jewish baby boys. It has a simple tune in a minor key using a Picardy Third which is the inclusion of the relative major chord in this case at the end of two phrases. Arranged as an INTERMEDIATE STRING TRIO (two violins and cello) in A minor, it provides a lovely carol for Christmas services and programs. Separate sheets of music are provided for each instrument in addition to the score.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1315131 By Jeff Bjorck. By Traditional. Arranged by Jeff Bjorck. Christian,Christmas,Classical,Religious,Traditional. Score. 4 pages. Pure Piano Music by Jeff Bjorck #903874. Published by Pure Piano Music by Jeff Bjorck (A0.1315131). Jeff Bjorck's original solo piano arrangement of this age-old Christmas carol appears on his album/CD The Wondrous Gift: A Pure Piano Christmas.  This carol is actually a lamenting lullaby for the infants killed when Herod tried to destroy Jesus. Thus, Bjorck changes the major chord traditionally closing each verse to minor in tribute to “Rachel weeping for her children, refusing to be comforted†(Matthew 2: 18)—and to honor to everyone who remembers departed loved ones at Christmas.
