Anton Bruckner is said to have been one of his teachers. Numerous compositions, piano reductions, dances, waltzes, polkas, marches and around 200 couplets, marches and Viennese songs have been preserved from his hand. His best-known composition is the Hoch- und Deutschmeister-March from 1880, which is still one of the great traditional Austrian marches today.
