Donald A Mills #3372897. Published by Donald A Mills (A0.928962). This song is a lullaby, a traditional American folk song. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: All the Pretty Little Horses (also known as Hush-a-bye) is a traditional lullaby from the Early United States. The origin of this song is not fully known, but the song is commonly thought to be of African American origin, yet the tune is more easily identified as English or Scottish in origin. This SATB a cappella arrangement by Donald A. Mills ranges in the middle-to-upper levels of expertise. The singers must have a command of breath control, of keeping the tonal center under control, and in an ability to sing in a dissonant chord. The song's duration is comfortable for concert or competition. This beautiful tune is not commonly recognized but is a long-standing lullaby in the American tradition of music. Also available here as a ttbb arrangement.Your chorus and your audiences will love the sweet words, harmonies and melody. Such a rich American tradition. Sing the song as a soft lullaby, in a dream-state. Softly...softly...gently. See and hear more arrangements and compositions by Donald A. Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1014586 Composed by Traditional Spiritual. Arranged by Lorinda Wright. A Cappella,Gospel. Octavo. 8 pages. Lorinda Wright #4632837. Published by Lorinda Wright (A0.1014586). Turtle Dove or Turkle Dove is a joyful song that was often sung at weddings before the emancipation when people had to jump over a broom to marry. It was said to be sung by the angels when you got to Heaven, and sa-sa-la-do is the solfege of the angels' song. The turtle dove is Noah's dove, and a 'do-do' is an African lullaby. This song was first recorded by gospel singer, Bessie Jones. She learned it from her grandfather, Jet Sampson, an ex-slave who was born in Africa and died in 1941 at the age of 105. Numerous other pop and folk singers have performed this song, including the Grateful Dead, Andrew Calhoun & Fred Campeau, Lee and Sarah Atkinson, and Caroline Aiken. Here, it is presented for 4-part a cappella choir.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1313835 Composed by Traditional West African folk song. Arranged by Kathleen McGuire. A Cappella,Folk,Multicultural,Traditional,World. 2 pages. Kathleen McGuire #902556. Published by Kathleen McGuire (A0.1313835). This traditional West African folk song (lullaby or processional) is highly versatile. Most likely from Liberia in the Yoruba language, it could be used simply as a melody, as a 2-4 part round, as a simple 2-4 part warm-up exercise, or in multiple parts as a concert piece utilising SATB choir and soloists, or splitting choral voices into multiple parts. The arrangement includes performance suggestions, plus instructions for body percussion or added ad lib African percussion. Arranger KATHLEEN MCGUIRE has incorporated ideas from various traditional sources into one page for ease of learning. It is suitable for any ages or abilities. The words translate loosely in English to: We are sorry, I am sorry. What's up? What are you dreaming? Come to us.Listen to a 1955 recording by The Song Swappers and Pete Seeger: https://folkways.si.edu/the-song-swappers-and-pete-seeger/banuwa-yo/american-folk-world/music/track/smithsonian

Piano Solo - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1127652 Composed by African-American Spiritual. Arranged by John Lehrack. Christmas,Folk,Religious,Spiritual,Traditional. Score. 4 pages. GGLS Publishing #728253. Published by GGLS Publishing (A0.1127652). This beautiful Christmas spiritual is often performed in a gospel manner, with syncopated rhythms and strong dynamics. I have chosen to arrange Mary Had a Baby as a simple lullaby. The nearly continuous eighth notes symbolize the rocking of a cradle and the gentleness and love a mother feels for her child. The principal melody rarely disappears but it sometimes interwoven with the familiar and traditional Christmas hymns, Silent Night,' Away in a Manger and O Little Town of Bethlehem. This is the eighth arrangement in my Contemplative Spirituals for Solo Piano collection.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1122111 By Kathleen Ryan. By Kathleen Ryan. Arranged by Kathleen Ryan. Classical,Folk,New Age,Traditional. Score. 4 pages. Indigo Mesa Music LLC #723262. Published by Indigo Mesa Music LLC (A0.1122111). Piano arrangement of the African–American lullaby, as performed by Kathleen Ryan on her CD A Handfull of Quietness. Kathleen's notes: I once had a friend who maintained that pianists should learn a new Chopin nocturne every spring. He was responding to the almost decadent quality of spring nights, when the old is finally rotting away to nurture the new. Moody and introspective, this arrangement is my haunting & lyrical springtime nocturne. Late intermediate level.
