In this post-pandemic era, demand for octavos for smaller choirs is on the rise. Wexford Carol is a wonderful traditional Irish carol which may not be readily familiar. This arrangement for SB voices features independent vocal writing with a lot of canonic imitation. The melody juxtaposes F sharp and F natural as well as B flat and B natural over an open harmonic accompaniment giving a medieval, peasant-like feel. Adding a tambourine, drum, and/or finger cymbal would only enhance the performance. If you're looking for a lesser-known carol for your holiday program, Wexford Carol would be a delightful addition. It would also work as a duet and is available in other expanded voicings.
