Robert Schumann's Konzertstück (Concert Piece), Opus 86 originally for Four Horns is a work of incredible genius, in that it combines virtuosity, energy, expression, lyricism and harmonic invention. It is now available in a newly arranged edition for Four Trombones and Piano, by Gordon Cherry. Written during Schumann's most prolific period in 1849, it is a marvelous showpiece for Trombone quartet & Piano and unsurpassed for its sheer excitement. Each performer needs to be at the top of their game, but the rewards are well worth the effort. The 3-movement work of almost 20 minutes in length is a joy to perform and to listen to. Recommended for advanced performers.

Sound Visions 2 for 4 Trombones is a composition by the Dresden author, musicologist and composer Friedbert Streller (born December 21, 1931 in Hohburg near Wurzen; † December 24, 2017 in Dresden). In addition to his musicological activities and teaching at the Dresden Music Academy Carl Maria von Weber, Friedbert Streller also devoted himself to composition throughout his life. The piece, composed in 2011, was premiered posthumously at his memorial service at the Dresden Tolkewitz cemetery by Tobias Hasselt, of the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, Eckhard Wiegräbe and Uwe Gebel, of the MDR Symphony Orchestra, and Jörg Richter, of the Elbland Philharmonic. The making of separate parts was dispensed with. Due to the complex nature of the interplay of the individual parts, it makes sense to make music from the score. Although not expressly prescribed by the composer, the use of an alto trombone is strongly recommended for performing the 1st part! (Note: The download includes 2 differently formatted versions of the piece, in DIN A4 (for Europe etc.) and in US Letter (for US). )

The third movement of the Piano Sonata No. 12 in A-flat Major, Op.26, Beethoven’s “Funeral March No. 2� is played at state funerals in the UK, including the funerals of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The subtitle of this movement (“Marcia Funebre, sulla morte d'un Eroe�) translates to “Funeral March, relating to the death of a hero�, and was orchestrated by Beethoven for the incidental music to Johann Duncker's play “Leonore Prohaska� (WoO 96). This was one of the pieces played during the procession at Beethoven’s funeral in 1827. This arrangement includes alternative parts for treble-clef trombones.
