The Coronation March was ordered by the city of Moscow for the coronation of Tsar Alexander III in 1883. The American premiere was on May 5, 1891, for the opening concert of Carnegie Hall in New York City, conducted by Tchaikovsky himself. During the Soviet Era, Russian performances and recordings of the music were revised to omit the excerpts from the Czarist national anthem, replacing it with thematic material used earlier in the march, due to an official Soviet ban on the anthem. Starting with Dmitri Medvedev's inauguration in 2008, an abbreviated version of this piece is played during the Russian presidential inauguration accompanying the entrance of the incoming president, and ends well before the playing in this piece of the Tsarist anthem God Save the Tsar. Unlike Tchaikovsky's other major compositions, the Coronation March does not have an opus number. It has been given alternative catalogue designations TH 50 and CW 47. However, knowing all its ins and outs are not necessary with Ralph Sauer's gorgeous arrangement of the suite of Waltzes for Tuba or Bass Trombone with Piano accompaniment. Written at the very end of the Romantic era in the early 20th century, the melodies are beautiful, the harmonies lush and the rhythms intoxicating. For advanced performers this 12 minute work will be a great addition to any recital.

This must-have arrangement would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts and recitals and could also be performed for church services. This brilliant work by Johann Sebastian Bach is an adaptation of Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto for Four Violins and String Orchestra in B minor. Bach had gotten to know Vivaldi's concertos while he was an organist at Weimar, where he transcribed ten of them for solo harpsichord and six of them for organ. Originally written in B minor, Bach transposed it to A minor and, while preserving the melodic outline as conceived by Vivaldi for four violins, this later adaptation, from around 1730, for four harpsichords and string orchestra, is far more ambitious. In it, Bach has both tightened and expanded Vivaldi's counterpoint, enriched it with lusher harmonies and expanded the solo parts with greater complexity and greater clarity. The result is a composition that actually improves on the original work. Written in the standard three-movement concerto form of the Baroque period, Bach's Concerto for Four Claviers in A minor is a virtuoso piece for the soloists. Regis Bookshar has now rearranged the first movement of this concerto, marked Allegro, for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 2 Trumpets, 1 French Horn, 1 Trombone and 1 Tuba, while maintaining the energy and virtuosity of Bach's original work. This arrangement is intended to be performed by accomplished players and may prove to be a huge challenge for many players, but, I think, it will be worth the effort. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (41 pages). In addition to this version for a Brass Quintet, other arrangements of this selection are also available for a variety of Instrumental Quintets, some of which are in the original key of Concert A minor and some have been transposed to Concert G minor, making it a little easier for some performers, as well as numerous other arrangements in a wide variety of styles. Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony Op. 125 incorporates part of the poem An die Freude (“To Joy�), a hymn written by Friedrich Schiller, with the text sung by soloists and a choir in its last movement. I decided to dedicate some of my compositions to this issue. This is the second composition with that title. This three movements composition include: i. Basiliscus (Basilisk) - Legendary reptile reputed to be king of serpents and said to have the power to cause death with a single glance; ii. Unicornis (Unicorn) - Legendary animal that resembles a white horse with a spiraling horn projecting from its forehead. Commonly described as an extremely wild woodland creature, a symbol of purity and grace, which could only be captured by a virgin; iii. Centaurus (Cenaturo)  - Member of a composite race of creatures, part human and part horse. This work was requested to be premiered by the project XL with Telmo Marques (piano)  e Sérgio Carolino (Tuba). Was composed between January and March 2012.
