The fifth movement of Leroy Anderson's The Irish Suite, The Last Rose of Summer, has never been transcribed for concert band. Skillfully scored by Douglas Wagner in Anderson's charismatic characteristic style, this work features an emotional alto saxophone solo in place of the orchestra version's violin solo. This dramatic work is performable as a stand-alone work or in tandem with the rest of the movements. All movements are now available: I. The Irish Washerwoman [00-83181], II. Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13, commonly known as Sonata Pathétique, was written in 1798 when the composer was 27 years old, and was published in 1799. It has remained one of his most celebrated compositions. The famous cantabile melody is played three times, separated by two modulating episodes. Several rock artists have also sampled the adagio, like Kiss and Billie Joel. The 2nd Movement were featured and played by Schroeder in the 1969 animated films A Boy Named Charlie Brown and It's the Pied Piper, Charlie Brown. This arrangement for trombone or euphonium with piano accompaniment is suitable for classroom, repertoire and recital.

After releasing a YouTube video of SILENT GIFTS, the piano solo on November 26, 2009, my good friend and composition student, Don Gillis made this YouTube comment:

Beautiful melody. Very appropriate for lyrics with a Christmas theme.

When I met Don a few days later, I asked him if he had any ideas for words to the music SILENT GIFTS. He said he would give it a try. Many months passed before we settled on wonderful words that express our intention of the gift of a smile at Christmas. Don's perfect lyrics add a brand new dimension to the song.

This Holiday song has a catchy melody with seasonal lyrics. It's ideal for vocalists at concerts who wanted to spread a cheerful and meaningful message for Christmas.

It all began with the idea one morning that the other tune for Nahum Tate's carol While shepherds watched is, of course, the Yorkshire ditty On Ilkley moor bar t'hat. Well, as the afternoon progressed, other tunes got added, resulting in a curious potpourri for choir and piano. The choir gets to sing On Ilkla Moor, the Este psalter tune known to all, and also Auld Lang Syne. The second voice, in its madrigalian way, gets a sly English cadence!. Meanwhile, the piano gets some sly references to Sing a song of sixpence and Scotland the brave. Francisco Tarrega (1852-1909) was a Spanish composer and classical guitarist regarded by many as the father of the classical guitar. Adelita is a mazurka originally composed for guitar by Tarrega. The mazurka originated in Poland and was popularized by Frederic Chopin. Arranged for flute solo with optional piano accompaniment.

The tempo is indicated as Lento, but seems to work better at a faster tempo. The audio file here is at 80 bpm. However, this piece should not be performed metronomically, but rather with a more rubato style.
