Once I knew the depth where no hope was, and darkness lay on the face of all things. Then love came and set my soul free.  
Once I knew only darkness and stillness. Now I know hope and joy. 
Once I fretted and beat myself against the wall that shut me in. Now I rejoice in the consciousness that I can think, act and attain heaven.
My life was without past or future; death, the pessimist would say, a consummation devoutly to be wished. But a little word from the fingers of another fell into my hand that clutched at emptiness, and my heart leaped to the rapture of living. 
Night fled before the day of thought, and love and joy and hope came up in a passion of obedience to knowledge. 
Can anyone who escaped such captivity, who has felt the thrill and glory of freedom, be a pessimist?

Darkness cannot shut me in again.

Fur Elise- A Jazz and Rock Duet for B flat clarinet and piano.( also Alto, and tenor sax versions available, as well as a piano solo)
This arrangement has been kept as close to Beethoven's original in terms of structure, but I wanted to give the whole piece a twist include Jazz and Rock styles.
Listed as Advanced Intermediate, but the whole score is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability;.
It was very much my intention to arranged this as a duet with both instruments of equal importance.
It is intended as a showpiece as well as a bit of fun and something different, and to add something as an alternative to a repertoire list.

A tongue in cheek combination of English sea shanty and Jewish scales, with a bit of Klezmer, a hint of Spanish flamenco and a large helping of English folksong.
The tunes used are: What shall we do with the drunken sailor Johnny Todd, Hava Nagila and various connecting melodic lines.
The mode sways between typical middle-Eastern scales and the Dorian mode (the original mode of the drunken sailor song).
 The pdf file contains score and parts.
The audio sample is the first live performance by the Camara Klezmer Trio, for whom it was written.
