Total Eclipse is an Art Song.  I have used several lines of poetry from Newburgh Hamilton (1741) and set them to unique music that is a fusion of Classical, Romantic, and Modern.  The music expressively drifts from major to minor to modal every few measures, inspired by the themes of darkness and light.  This approachable piece of music is a good introduction for singers to the interpretation of an Art Song and is a dramatic performance piece for recital.  It could even be used as a sing-along for the celebration of an actual eclipse! (Haydn also used variations of this text to create several Recitatives and an Aria for his oratorio Samson.)  2 pages, 1:50 minutesVocal Range - 1 octave, transposed for several voice ranges on this site,High Voice, F-FHigh Voice, E-EMedium Voice D-DMedium Voice C-CLow Voice B-Balso an SATB choral version on this site.

Saxophone Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.755222 Composed by Sy Brandon. 20th Century,Contemporary. 95 pages. Sy Brandon #3418983. Published by Sy Brandon (A0.755222). Divertimento is in three movements. The first movement Frolic has three main thematic ideas. The first contains dotted rhythms, staccato articulation, and meter change. The second thematic idea is related to the first in that it also uses dotted rhythms and meter change, but is more legato and begins with more sustained notes. The third thematic section is thinner in texture, more playful, and has a legato theme over a staccato background. The motivic material in each of these sections has similarities. Contrast is primarily obtained through change of style and mood. These thematic ideas develop throughout the movement by varying key, instrumentation, and melodic material. There are several sections of imitation that are very energetic. The second movement Ballad is lyrical at an Andante tempo. The form of the movement is through-composed as the motives develop into new variations instead of having clearly distinguished themes. There is however a recapitulation that brings the listen back to the opening material. The main motives that develop are a sixteenth note pattern that is arpeggiated and also stepwise, a dotted quarter and eighth note idea that is often on weak beats as well as appearing on strong beats, and scalewise eighth note lines. All of these interweave among the parts with frequent counterpoint and some imitation. The harmony is lush with seventh chords used frequently. The last movement Tarantella is in a lively tempo. The form of this movement is a large ABA(Scherzo, Trio, Scherzo). The A sections are in triple meter while the B section is in duple. The A section is in three parts, forming an ABA within the large A. The material for the first part is motivically derived. The first motive is a dotted eighth, sixteenth, eighth note followed by even eighth notes. The second motive is four chromatic sixteenth notes followed by an eighth note. This motive appears both ascending and descending. The B section within this large A consists of a slurred melodic line that has both stepwise motion and leaps. It is accompanied by staccato chromatic eighth notes. The large B section is folksong-like and is in a recognizable binary form that repeats in a new key. The large A serves as a recapitulation of the opening section and it ends lightly and playfully in keeping with the Divertimento title that means to divert or amuse.

Xylophone Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.596588 Composed by Juan María Solare. 20th Century,Contemporary,Graduation. 7 pages. Juan Maria Solare #5719151. Published by Juan Maria Solare (A0.596588). Juan María Solare: Post this and neo that  a meta-toccata for solo xylophone    Post this and neo that means, in this piece, the coexistence of different musical languages and techniques, such as toccata, blues, baroque or atonal (twelve-tone harmonic fields) – and everything with a tango nuevo flair.  Sometimes, this term is slightly pejorative and usually heard when conservative concert-goers and true-music lovers grumble about the proliferation of superfluous aesthetic movements with prefixes such as post- or neo-, or suffixes such as -ism or -ologie. Choosing this expression as title is actually an irony at both (conservatism and pluralism) and as such mainly a general mockery at the urge of putting labels (possibly in order to sell better).  If you analyze carefully, you will find styles and devices such as post-Prokofiev, meta-tango, neo-renaissance, nano-variations, turbo-harmony, ultra-melodism and hyper-rhythmic in this piece of crypto-music. If you analyze even more carefully you will find nearly everything. And if you omni-analyze it, you will find the supra-truth.  Anyway, what I found is eight times the same structure: A A B A (whereby B is an integrated contrast); the macro form also follows this idea of two similar statements, one quite different, reappearance of the first statement varied but recognizable.  Post this and neo that for xylophone was composed in Bremen (Germany) on February 5th and 6th, 2014, encouraged by a call for works made by Samuel Stokes. The piece was selected on that call for works (6 pieces among 33), recorded by Samuel Stokes and offered at his homepage: http://www.samuelstokesmusic.com/xylophone.html  Juan María Solare   www.JuanMariaSolare.com     Alternative spelling: Post-this and neo-that Official title in German: Post dies und Neo das Official title in Spanish: Post esto y neo aquello     ISWC (International Standard Musical Work Code): T-803.342.175-0 Datenbankwerknummer (GEMA): 14269626

Flute and piano - intermediate to advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q53381 Op. 69. Composed by Giulio Briccialdi. Edited by Edmund Wachter and Elisabeth Weinzierl. This edition: Sheet music. (c) 2020 Schott Music GmbH & Co. KG, Mainz. Classical. Downloadable. Op. 69. 17 pages. Schott Music - Digital #Q53381. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q53381). English • German. The Italian Giulio Briccialdi was taught to play the flute chiefly by his father. His virtuoso career began at an early age and he was appointed as flute teacher to the Count of Syracuse in Sicily. On numerous tours his playing drew enthusiastic responses from audiences and critics alike: ‘The only really good flute-player that I have ever seen’, wrote Rockstro in A Treatise on the Flute. In 1871 Briccialdi was appointed as a professor at the Conservatoire in Florence. Having been introduced to the newly constructed cylindrical flute by Theobald Böhm in 1847, he added some minor further modifications of his own. His Bb thumb key was a useful addition to the original Böhm system subsequently known in the history of flute making as the ‘Biccialdi thumb key’. As a composer, apart from a single opera he mainly wrote pieces for the flute in the fashion of the time: arrangements, sets of variations and virtuoso showpieces a large number of which were published by Schott. In the original publication of Allegro alla Spagnuola op. 69 bars 23 to 41 were omitted from the score and only printed in the accompanying flute part. For this new edition the missing piano accompaniment has been reconstructed using the material available. Plate no. 12098 / published in 1853.
