Large Ensemble Bassoon,Clarinet,Double Bass,Flute,Horn,Oboe,Percussion - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.555864

Composed by Edmund Angerer - ascribed variously to Joseph Haydn, Leopold Mozart, Michael Haydn, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Rainprechter. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Children,Christmas,Classical,Standards. Score and parts. 52 pages. RayThompsonMusic #6047585. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.555864).

This work was long reputed to be the work of Joseph Haydn, but later scholarship suggested that it was actually written by Leopold Mozart. Its authorship is still disputed, however, and other composers have been proposed as the symphony's true author, including Joseph Haydn's younger brother Michael Haydn, who purportedly contributed movements to the work.

Recent research on a newly found manuscript suggests the Austrian Benedictine monk Edmund Angerer (1740–1794) to be the author. If Angerer's manuscript (from 1765, entitled Berchtolds-Gaden Musick) is the original, the Toy Symphony was originally written not in G but rather in C. These findings, however, are disputed among scholars. There is reason to believe that the true composer will likely never be known, in whole or in part, given its confused origins and the paucity of related manuscript sources.

Even without a name attached to it, the piece has become a mainstay for children's shows and Christmastime concerts. Each of its three movements features the sounds of actual toys and instruments that sound like they came straight from Geppetto's workshop.

The piece calls for a toy trumpet, ratchet, nightingale, cuckoo, drum, and triangle. ( A quail makes it’s only appearance in the 2nd movement.

Noisemakers rattle throughout the first of its three movements.

The cuckoo and trumpet  call out mischievously during the minuetto of the second movement , and a quail joins the nightingale in the trio.

In the short third mvt which is played 3 times, they all play again, each repeat faster than the previous one.

The presence of the toy instruments make this a fun piece for children to play, especially when there are also some toys waiting under the tree.

My arrangement is based on the Kinder-Symphonie attributed to Leopold Mozart. It is scored in C.
it is in 3 mvts and is arranged for double wind quintet, bass and toy percussion.
i have distributed the original strings around the woodwind, and composed original classical horn parts.

Sometimes known as Children’s Symphony.

Composed by Music by Richard Milburn. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Country,Folk,Historic,Traditional. 27 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #748729. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1148567).

Listen to the Mocking Bird was first published in 1855. The melody originated with Richard Milburn, a Philadelphia African-American who has been described variously as a panhandling busker and as a musically inclined barber. A songwriter and publisher by the name of Septimus Winner heard Milburn's tune, arranged it, added words, put it into print and claimed credit for its creation under the pseudonym Alice Hawthorne. Supposedly, Winner sold the rights to the song for five dollars.

Listen to the Mocking Bird grew to be one of the most popular songs of the mid-19th century, a real hit. Its sheet music, by one estimate, sold more than 20 million copies. It was sung and performed particularly often during the Civil War, and troops used its melody as a marching tune. It remains somewhat of a standard and has been recorded numerous times, especially as a favorite of bluegrass musicians.

In the lyrics, the singer is remembering his loved one. She has passed away but he recalls their good life together. They particularly enjoyed the call of the mocking bird, which even now is singing o'er her grave.

This arrangement opens in E-flat major with Trumpet 1 introducing the sweetly sad melody, I'm dreaming now of Hally. After the introduction, the tempo picks up to allegro and whirls along. It does slow down several times, and there are four one-measure deviations from the 4/4 time signature: one 6/4, two 2/4s and one 1/4. At measure 65, the key changes to B-flat major for the finale. Trumpets 1 and 2 each play one A-above-their-staff eighth note as their highest pitch; the rest of the music stays well within the normal playing range of the five instruments.

Completed in 2022, performance time runs about 3 minutes, 23 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge. He would like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms. For more arrangements by Les, enter Sweetwater Brass Press (without the quotation marks) in the Sheet Music Plus or Sheet Music Direct search box. (Also, purchase of this piece entitles you to your choice of another of his arrangements at no charge; send a copy of your purchase receipt directly to him at lessmith61@bellsouth.net.)

Tiananmen (2018) is a piece in memory of the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, which was commonly known as the June Fourth Incident (六四事件). The protests were students led demonstrations in Beijing, the capital of the People’s Republic of China, and were forcibly suppressed after the government declared martial law. In what became known in West as the Tiananmen Square Massacre, troops with automatic rifles and tanks killed at least several hundred demonstrators trying to block the military’s advance towards Tiananmen Square. The number of civilian deaths has been estimated variously from 180 to 10,454.

The piece itself reflects the atmosphere of China chronologically from the day before the incident to the time when protests were completely suppressed. The piece was divided into two movements. The first part of the piece serves as an introduction setting up the depressing tone of the whole piece. The first part of the piece reflects the anxiety of the whole society when the martial law was declared. And the second part of the piece refers to Zhao Ziyang’s (赵紫阳) speech at the Tiananmen Square where he tries to communicate with the students and peacefully resolve the protest. The third part and the fourth part of the piece directly describes the protest on June 4th which show a catastrophic and desperate atmosphere.

Thanks, John.  Still Crazy After All These Years is a song by the American singer-songwriter Paul Simon. It was the third and final single from his fourth studio album of the same name (1975), released on Columbia Records. Though the song briefly reached the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S., it was a bigger hit on the magazine's Easy Listening chart, where it peaked at number four Still Crazy After All These Years begins with the singer singing that I met my old lover on the street last night. The old lover has been variously interpreted to be either Simon's ex-wife Peggy Harper, from whom he was recently divorced, his former girlfriend from the 1960s Kathy Chitty, or even Simon's former musical partner Art Garfunkel, who appears on the song that follows 'Still Crazy After All These Years on the album. After sharing a few beers, the singer and the old lover part ways again.

SKU: A0.923891

Composed by Paul St-Amand. Christian,Contemporary,Easter,Sacred. Score and parts. 15 pages. BBQ Editions #3385417. Published by BBQ Editions (A0.923891).

This chorale for brass quintet is a showcase for the 1st trumpeter, with several solo passages, and a soaring descant in the final passage. The piece is based on a line from Psalm 31, variously translated as Into your hands I commend my spirit or Father, I put my life in Your hands. The central musical theme is extrapolated from a basic melodic idea originally intended to be sung by a cantor. While it may be played year-round, In Your Hands makes an especially fitting selection during the Easter season.

In Your Hands was composed by Bedford Brass Quintet trumpeter Paul St-Amand in memory of his father, Gerry. The piece was premiered at Harmony & Hope: A Concert for Cancer Research in 2015.

Performance time is approx. 4:30.

Composed by Robert M. Greenberg. 20th Century. 44 pages. Robert M. Greenberg #115419. Published by Robert M. Greenberg (A0.987854).

Preferred Contact Information: RMonteverdi@comcast.net Performing Rights Organization: BMI Website: robertgreenbergmusic.com Facebook Band Page: facebook.com/RobertGreenbergMusic Duration: ca. 23 minutes Year of composition: 1999 Program Note: Quasi Un Madrigale sets the poetry of three 20th century Italian poets: Salvatore Quasimodo, Aldo Palazzeschi and Corrado Govoni. These expressive, evocative poems deal variously with states of memory, nostalgia, and longing. The four songs are conceived as a cycle. The first three songs are true duets, with the piano a full partner of the soprano. The fourth and final song, from which the cycle draws its name, constitutes the emotional core of the set. It is at once a resigned lament of personal loss and an affirmation of new life. Quasi Un Madrigale was composed between February and September 1985. All poems used with permission.
