Though this sheet music is notated for Handbells and Boomwhackers®, these arrangements are playable by any 8-note, C major diatonic scale (one octave) instrument such as a xylophone or glockenspiel. The number of ringers and whackers needed will vary depending on the skill level of the participants. Its diversity reflects the small regional and cultural spaces of Switzerland. Influences from other European countries have also shaped this kind of music since the early 19th century. Polka and Mazurka have their roots in Poland, the Scottish in Scotland. The music has been passed on by word of mouth or has been written down in musicians’ notebooks.Between 1940 and 1960, the ethnomusicologist Hanny Christen travelled through Switzerland and collected thousands of melodies from the period between 1800 and 1960. The musicians played or sang in front of her. Some permitted her to write off their own hand-written dance booklets in full. In 1956, Hanny Christen began to record this music with a tape recorder. It is thanks to her that over 12,000 instrumental dance movements of Switzerland and many other pieces of tradition (costumes, biographies, musical instruments etc.) were saved from being forgotten. The instruments used in traditional folk music vary depending on the type of dance and region. Flutes are more or less non-existent. The author would like to fill a gap with this publication. She has therefore adapted one folk dance per canton from the Hanny Christen-collection* for two flutes. The pieces from the cantons of Basel City, Thurgau and Geneva do not come from this source, though. The melodies from the other 23 cantons are taken unchanged from the collection. The second voice was not always composed quite traditional. The melody follows - if possible - a contrapuntal melody of its own and is directed to the flute (difficulty grade 3 +).The editor, Helene Schulthess, is a flutist with a wide repertoire. She lives in Switzerland. She performs as a soloist, makes chamber music and is active as a music teacher. Arranged by Sharon Wilson. 20th Century,Children,Folk,Instructional,Traditional. Score and parts. 176 pages. Sharon Wilson #3626293. Published by Sharon Wilson (A0.565251). This sheet music collection of 20 folk songs is notated for 13-note (one octave, C to C chromatic scale) instruments with Handbells on one staff and Boomwhackers® on a second staff creating an instrumental ensemble (requires one set of each instrument). Handbells play the melody while the Boomwhackers® keep a steady beat with three-note chords. For each song, there is a combined score with both parts on a grand staff plus a separate 1-staff score for each individual part. A note and chord reference chart is also provided for each song. The songs in this digital book are ordered by difficulty with the easiest songs presented first. The songs progressively incorporate more challenging rhythms, some requiring rapid chord changes. Many of the songs include two verses. The first verse is “easy†with fewer notes. The second verse is “intermediate†and expands the melody by adding more notes (sometimes including harmony notes). If you want to learn (practice) only the “easy†verse, an optional ending is provided or it can be skipped to perform the two verses together. This set of scores uses black and white noteheads and is best suited for musicians already familiar with reading standard music notation. Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.818351 By Stephen R Dalrymple. By American Folk Song. Arranged by Stephen R Dalrymple. Folk. Score and parts. 52 pages. Stephen R Dalrymple #6381291. Published by Stephen R Dalrymple (A0.818351). Shenandoah ♫ traditional American folk song ♫ arranged for concert band by Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ The meaning of this song will be long debated. Considered a sea chanty, the song was passed on orally by singers on clipper ships. The variations in lyrics that have been collected demonstrate how various singers over the decades have altered the song (consciously or unconsciously). ♫ This arrangement is based on lyrics that were collected prior to 1860 and published in Sea Songs and Shanties by W. B. Whall (1910). There are evidently 2 rivers mentioned in this song, the Shenandoah and the Missouri. The song tells a love story between an impetuous trader and a Shenandoah Valley Native American princess. As the trader heads for the Missouri River, he looks back longingly to the home of the princess. ♫ I have used the Dorian Mode to suggest Native American elements in the story line. The YouTube video features photos of both the Shenandoah River and the Missouri River. ♫ The white man loved the Indian maiden, Away you rolling river. With notions his canoe was laden. Ah-ha, I'm bound away, Cross the wide Missouri. ♫ O, Shenandoah, I love your daughter, Away you rolling river. I'll take her 'cross yon rolling water. Ah-ha, I'm bound away, Cross the wide Missouri. ♫ The chief disdained the trader's dollars: Away you rolling river. My daughter never you shall follow. Ah-ha, I'm bound away, Cross the wide Missouri. ♫ O, Shenandoah, I long to hear you, Away you rolling river. Across that wide and rolling river. Ah-ha, I'm bound away, 'Cross the wide Missouri. ♫ arrangement © 2000 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ recording ℗ 2021 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ presentation © 2021 Stephen R Dalrymple ♫ sequenced by the arranger ♫ Purchase price includes permission to make photocopies of parts and additional scores for a medium size school band. ♫ This .pdf file includes 1) Condensed Conductor’s Score 2) Individual parts for: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet 1, Clarinet 2, optional Clarinet 3, Bass Clarinet, Alto Sax /Alto Clarinet, Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax, Trumpet 1, Trumpet 2, French Horn, Trombone/Baritone/Bassoon, Treble Clef Baritone, Tuba, E Bass, Snare Drum/Cymbals, Shaker/Chimes, and Timpani ♫ The YouTube video contains a full recording.

She is involved in various musical projects (www.helene-schulthess.ch).* Swiss Folk Music Collection. The dance music of Switzerland of the 19th and first half of the 20th century. From the estate of Hanny Christen. Edited by Fabian Müller under the auspices of the Society for Folk Music in Switzerland (GVS/SMPS). Music print. Mülirad, Zürich 2002.
