SKU: A0.767316

Composed by Claudio Monteverdi. Arranged by Lyons Music Services. Baroque,Renaissance. Score and parts. 33 pages. Lyons Music Services #3460731. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767316).

At long last I have nearly finished the 7th book. This book has posed some issues as it is such complex music it is almost impossible to cut it down to 5 parts while maintaining its integrity. As a result, some songs will be in 6 or more parts.

Non vedrò mai le stelle is a duet for two tenors, The title translates as Never will I see the stars the poet is berating his lover for spurning him

I decided to use two euphoniums/baritones for the soloists, with the accompaniment managed by 2 cornets/trumpets, a horn and a tuba.

The seventh book is quite a change from the earlier ones. Monteverdi seems to be concentrating on developing solos and duets, trios and small accompanied ensembles. The accompaniments are often written out with more than just long note chords. The intricate instrumental parts are more than just filling in the harmony (hence the difficulty in paring them down.)

Once again, these songs are exquisitely crafted and travel well onto brass.

French Horn Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.874057

Composed by Claudio Monteverdi. Arranged by Frank Starobin. Baroque,Concert,Graduation,Renaissance,Sacred. Individual part. 16 pages. Frank Starobin #3483497. Published by Frank Starobin (A0.874057).

Monteverdi's Monumental Vespro della Beata Vergine is often considered to be one of the most important works of the Renaissance era with its grand 14 movement structure. Interestingly, this 1610 piece does not specify instrumentation, so ensembles can form their own sound by controlling orchestration. For this reason, I found it fitting to write an arrangement of the Versicle & Response for 9 horns. A great opener for any large horn choir concert.

SKU: A0.955887

Composed by Claudio Monteverdi. Arranged by Scott S. Stewart. Baroque,Contemporary. 17 pages. Scott S. Stewart #6735537. Published by Scott S. Stewart (A0.955887).

How Sweet Is the Torment, is a 2022 setting of Monteverdi’s Baroque aria Sì dolce è’l tormento which was published in 1624.  Its strophic composition made it immediately ‘catchy’ and its original lyrics by Carlo Milanuzzi, conveys a very familiar topic: the ‘sweet torment of a broken heart’. This song carries the subtitle: Recitar cantando, that new style of singing that imitates the inflections of the spoken text.  Text (and elocution) is/are important.  The text has been updated and put in the vernacular (English) of/by the arranger. This aria is arranged for a 4-part SATB ensemble with piano accompaniment.  Performance time: 4:35+-
