So I thought, how about a set of solo pieces for the violin for her as a token of my appreciation for her artistry? Anytime one thinks of writing for solo violin, one has to face up to the monumental Partitas and Sonatas for unaccompanied violin by Johann Sebastian Bach. This is a very cinematographic and poetic piece of music. It was originally written for cello and orchestra, and arranged for cello and piano by Alexander Glazunov. However, as with all beautiful melodies, a different feel is achieved with another instrument. I have transcribed it for violin and piano. With the violin, it is technically easier as the original required very high positions on the cello, which is easily played with the E string of the violin. Also, it was originally in tenor clef, which may be challenging for some. In this transcription, it is in treble clef instead.
