He studied composition with Francois-Bernard Mache, Iannis Xenakis and Olivier Messiaen at the Chopin Music Conservatoire in Warsaw where he has been teaching instrumentation since 1985 and composition since 2004. To this day, he has written more than 200 works for the theatre, radio and film. Blazewicz composed 'Concerto rustico' specifically for 'The 5th World Marimba Competition 2008' in Stuttgart. The virtuoso concertante piece is written in a moderately modern style (tonal) and influenced by jazz elements - a valuable addition to every modern concert programme.

His music is an unmistakable blend of Eastern and Western traditions. This can also be felt in this one-movement piano piece the title of which refers to the name of a lake in Tibet. To paint the unmistakable atmosphere of this landscape in terms of music, Ye uses short peaceful motifs that alternate with sparkling tremolos and ascending and descending sound cascades. The softly fading end in the upper register leaves the impression of silence and loneliness. A virtuoso and effective piece for the piano!

Moritz Eggert (born 1965, Heidelberg) studied both piano and composition in Frankfurt and Münich In 1989 he was one of the winners at the Gaudeamus-Wettbewerb, an international competition for performers of new music. One of his best-known works is the piano cycle „Hämmerklavier. Following on from Außer Atem (for one player with three different instruments), a sophisticated piece for virtuoso recorder players, Eggert now offers us a duet for the interesting and unusual combination of soprano recorder and percussion. This, too, is an extremely demanding and highly virtuosic piece but the effect, the artistic merit more than makes up for the hard work necessary.

Hermann Schroeder (1904-1984) wrote his Sonatina da camera at the suggestion of Prof. Hugo Ruf who had been looking for attractive new music for his 'old' instrument and for his students at the Cologne Musikhochschule. This work is a little three-movement sonata which draws on both the Baroque harpsichord tradition and the classical sonata form (in the outer movements). These elements are combined very successfully with a modern tonal language; with humour and the joy of virtuoso playing getting their fair share too. It is to be hoped that Schroeder's single work for harpsichord (apart from his 'Duplum' for organ and harpsichord, Schott ED 6233) will be played by many performers and included in the rather small contemporary repertoire for harpsichord as a valuable addition.

The theme comes from the collection ‘XII Ariette Italiane’ for voice and piano (plate number 92), published by Schott in 1788. The collaboration with Beethoven did not continue until around 35 years later with the operas 121b to 128 and 131 (including the Missa solemnis and the 9th Symphony). Beethoven’s last words, according to Anton Schindler, also connected Beethoven with the publishing house (‘Too bad, too late’): the delivery of the Rhein wine, ordered from Schott following his doctor’s advice, only reached him on his deathbed.
