The second theme consists of quotes from an acclaimed 1854 speech made by Chief Seattle to Governor Isaac Ingalls Stevens that I set to music, a compelling plea to respect the rights of indigenous peoples and a well-formulated reminder that human beings are a part of nature, they are not its masters. As Leif “Smoke Rings� Anderson said about this piece: “It tells a sadly story about a lonely man walking away in the night, going nowhere.� The relaxed tempo makes it an ideal piece for after-hours. And the jazzy chords are just marvellous! Piano voice is written out - with additional chord symbols for your own voicings. As for the title, the name of the piece: I am not entirely sure, whether “Marlowe´s Theme� is correct. The music of the opening scene has no name, as far as I´ve been able to determine, and on Davis Shire´s own piano solo version there´s a combination of this piece with “Marlowe´s Theme�. But, there you go … . It´s fantastic music, anyway. This very effective arrangement follows the form of the original soundtrack (hence the youtube link). Original key (Bb minor). The form is: Piano intro (with the original piano pattern), theme in violin, cello plays half the theme, joined by tutti, piano plays half the theme as outro. Duration: approx 02.10 min. This version is for a strings trio and piano. On this version, you can play it in different ways. As written, I have a trio with refrain and 3 verses. I then have a final refrain that has an echo part and a little different ending. You could do this as a quartet by a third person playing on the echo part earlier in the refrain. I will leave that open for you to decide how you want to do it.
