Organ - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.898550 Composed by Matthew Alan Edwards. Arranged by Matthew Alan Edwards. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,Sacred. Score. 9 pages. Matthew Alan Edwards #4266089. Published by Matthew Alan Edwards (A0.898550). Now offering 25% off my SMP price at MatthewAlanEdwards.com/op-3 !Immortal, invisible, God only wise describes God’s omnipresence and omniscience, with His hand present in all things on earth in all aspects of life. The four variations follow the four verses of text written by Walter Chalmers Smith (1824-1908) as found in the Hymnal 1982. I leave it to your artistic imagination to interpret how the melodies and harmonies of each variation paint the text. Much like my Opus 2 (Partita Vom Himmel hoch), this set of variations was initially conceived as an improvisation. As such, some rubato should be employed in performance. Registration suggestions are indicated in the score though are by no means binding. To maintain the atmosphere of wonderment established by the first variation, the tempo of the final variation should not be too fast.

Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.898554 Composed by Matthew Alan Edwards. Arranged by Matthew Alan Edwards. Baroque,Christmas,Concert,Renaissance,Sacred. Octavo. 7 pages. Matthew Alan Edwards #4266219. Published by Matthew Alan Edwards (A0.898554). Now offering 25% off my SMP price at MatthewAlanEdwards.com/op-7 !Canzona alla terza Verbum supernum prodiens was composed late one night after I was inspired by the chant melody as found in the Hymnal 1982, hymn 63. Rather than compose on the computer as I usually do, I wrote by hand as I determined the best four-part canonic treatment for each of the phrases of the chant. Composing this was akin to assembling a puzzle, both in mindset (this note fits best here) and addictive quality (need to finish this now!). Originally conceived as a short organ piece, I quickly chose to add the English text from the Hymnal 1982 then text directly from the Liber Usualis, a Catholic book of Gregorian chants commonly used until the reforms of the Second Vatican Council (Vatican II). This piece is similar in style to an Italian Renaissance canzona or early German Baroque kanon. It should be performed with performance practice of those eras in mind, including lifts after dotted notes, metric accents, and minimal vibrato, especially at cadences. Lines that end in a melisma should be performed by singing the final vowel and placing the consonant at the release of the final melisma note. The first verse may be sung in unison or as a solo as printed below. The verses may be sung in alternatum (odd verses printed below: solo chant, even verses: choir). The first four verses form a complete anthem and the last two verses are suitable as a Communion anthem, or all six may be sung. The SSA Latin version was adapted from the original SATB version for the women of the Hillcrest High School choral program under the direction of Dr. Khristina Motley in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It reduces the original four-voice setting to three voices without sacrificing any canonic entrances. This SSA English version is also suitable for performance by an advanced middle school choral ensemble or for TTB men. Also available as an organ solo or in Latin. SATB Latin/English versions coming soon!

String Ensemble,String Trio Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.800316 Composed by Sarah Wallin Huff. Contemporary. Score and parts. 47 pages. Novel Soundtrax #32443. Published by Novel Soundtrax (A0.800316). Appears on Soul of the Machine by Navona Records. Completed in 2011, this complex and experimental work for violin trio consists of three movements: I. Intervallic Structure (Andante con moto) II. Tone and Color (Meno mosso) III. Urban Rhythm (Allegro ma non troppo) Based upon a strict and unvarying formula of patterns that are passed equally between the three violin parts, all three movements utilize this same precise structure of A, B, C, and Ostinato phrases. Each movement, however, while based upon the same formulaic set of patterns, vary by the material of the four phrases themselves; the phrases’ material is each based upon very different scales, depending on the particular movement’s character. Counterpoint Invariable is a successful thought-experiment, turned to driving and evocative emotional artwork, highlighting Wallin Huff's ongoing fascination with the logic of mechanical structure giving way to outward beauty. It is a true, fulfilling reward to perform and explore this work in its entirety.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.870372 Composed by Randy A. Steinberg. Contemporary,Latin. Score and parts. 156 pages. Randy A. Steinberg #1885815. Published by Randy A. Steinberg (A0.870372). Born in 1485, Hernando Cortez was a Spanish adventurer rewarded for his courage and skills in battle. In the spring of 1519 with 11 ships and 700 men, he landed on the newly discovered gulf coast of Mexico looking for gold that was rumored to be found there. To ensure that none of his men deserted him, he burned all except one of his fleet of ships. He quickly conquered the Aztec empire and its emperor Montezuma. There, he eventually killed Montezuma and seized the gold and treasure that had belonged to the Aztecs for centuries. By the end of 1520, he had won Mexico for Spain and put it under Spanish rule. As a reward, King Charles V of Spain made him governor and captain general of Mexico. He died in Seville, Spain in 1536. Although Cortez’ aims were for conquest and gold – many which resulted in suffering and misery for the Aztecs, there were interesting cultural side effects as Spain ruled Mexico. Ancient Indian folk tunes and ceremonial music were suddenly intermixed with the higher culture of the baroque and renaissance music from Spain. Much of what we now know of today in the way of Latin styles of music owes its roots to the invasion of Cortez and culture changes he inadvertently brought with him. The Golden Helmet Of Cortez musically commemorates the story of Cortez as he landed in Mexico on that spring day in 1519. The piece is a compilation of many Latin and Mexican musical styles. Some of these are light in style, others evoke the battles that took place. These are all brought together in an exciting programmatic style to be enjoyed by all. 2016 Arrangement New Release.
