Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.998832 Composed by Robert A. Howard. 21st Century,Contemporary,Easter,Sacred,Standards. 5 pages. Robert A. Howard #6129263. Published by Robert A. Howard (A0.998832). This is a simple E minor setting of the familiar Good Friday words, using a repeated binary structure, almost in the manner of an alternating verse/chorus form. The piece is a counterpart to Howard's own 2016 setting of the Ave Verum Corpus, with which it shares the same key (also available via Sheet Music Plus). The chorus displays a clearly morose yearning in its appoggiaturas, upward leap and consequent falling phrase. By contrast, the verse is almost a recitative, featuring tense repetitions on one tone above a series of chromatically descending triads and pedal point. The work is appropriate for most standards of 4-part choir, including schools, students, community, church and cathedral choirs. The accompaniment can be on piano or organ. Versions of the work for solo voice, and for SA choir, are also available via Sheet Music Plus.

Killhope Burn is a stream in County Durham, which is a tributary of the River Wear. The Burn flows roughly south-eastwards down stone falls, meandering around the plantation at Killhope Lead Mine museum and then onwards past our cottage into Cowshill and finally Wearhead. This work seeks to describe that tumbling, meandering, rushing journey until peace reigns at the end as the burn finds its resting place in the Wear.

Carefully arranged for level 1, the piece only includes notes in the first hand pattern so that students in their second year of learning onwards will be able to perform the piece. Even though the individual parts are very straightfoward and accessible, the overall sound, especially with the piano accompaniment, sounds impressive and memorable.

Piano - intermediate to advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q588033 To the concerto for piano and orchestra in G Major Hob. XVIII:4. Composed by Franz Joseph Haydn and Nino Rota. Cadenza. Downloadable. Op. 3. Duration 2 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q588033. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q588033). Key: G major.Improvised and also composed solo cadenzas, normally occuring towards the end of a bravura aria or an instrumental concerto movement, have existed since the late 16th century. They provide the performer with an opportunity for self-presentation in the form of a free style of playing or singing, based on themes and motifs from previous sections of the movement. Solo cadenzas are for the most part introduced by a six-four chord held by the orchestra; the soloist begins a protracting interpolation in free stlye, subsequently culminating on the dominant chord, usually with a trill. Whereas originally composers left solo cadenzas to be freely improvised, from the middle of the 19th century onwards they were frequently specifically written out. The increasing abuse of cadenzas as a mere display of free virtuosity, ignoring the style and impetus of the composition, played a substantial factor in this development. Thus Beethoven gives the soloist no opportunity whatsoever for free improvisation in his 5th piano concerto in which the cadenza becomes an integral, obligatory component of the complete work. In this unique series Schott Music presents cadenzas created for well-known instrumental concertos from the Classical and Romantic periods by major composers and soloists of our time. Nino Rota dedicated the Kadenzen zum Klavierkonzert Nr. 4 in G-Dur (Cadenzas of the Concerto No. 4 for Piano and Orchestra in G major) Hob. XVIII:4 by Joseph Haydn to Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli (1920-1995), who recorded them for the label EMI.

Piano Trio,String Ensemble Cello,Piano,Violin - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.938413 Composed by Colin Bayliss. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 59 pages. Colin Bayliss #9995. Published by Colin Bayliss (A0.938413). Piano Trio (B44) was written in the spring of 1991 for David Johnson and the trio which he was forming in Cologne. The work is in three movements:-1. Structures The three instruments build differing structural patterns based on a 12-note row. The violin and 'cello often complement each other, but the piano rarely joins them and tries to pull the music towards a diatonic tonal language, eventually succeeding to end in G major. The movement is in arch form, the second half being based on the retrogrades of the note row. 2. Textures Most forms of sound textures are used, including col legno and sul ponticello for the strings, while the piano occasionally employs soft-headed timpani sticks both on the keyboard and the interior of the instrument. Again the movement is in arch form, with a central section incorporating a miniature scherzo, with a trio section parodying the palm court trio style with a tune of sickly sentimentality. [ This movement may be played separately under the title Einer Kleiner Alptraum - A Little Night... mare] 3. Metamorphoses The notes which will eventually become a Scottish folk tune are hidden either in the repeated notes or in the left hand of the piano, either singly or in harmony. After a neo- classical exposition, using a serial melody, progress is quickly halted by the use of some of the notes of the folk tune being arranged into the theme of Weber's Turandot which was used by Hindemith in his Symphonic Metamorphoses . This pulls the music into a slightly more tonal frame work which becomes more pronounced after a reference to the theme of the slow movement of the Eroica symphony used in Richard Strauss' Metamorphosen. From then onwards, tonality, or rather modality, is established and the folk tune style is maintained with simplicity to the end, except for a miniscule coda reminiscent of the opening of the movement. The sound sample is a performance of the second movement Textures.

Brass Ensemble Euphonium,Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Digital Download SKU: A0.802701 Composed by Josef Weinberger. Arranged by arr. R Woschnjak & Peet du Toit. Contemporary. Score and parts. 13 pages. Peet du Toit #6859613. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802701). Josef Weinberger has been synonymous with popular musical theater for over 125 years. Weinberger was born the son of a goldsmith in Lipto St. Miklo in Hungary but his family moved to Vienna in 1865. In 1885 Josef Weinberger and Carl Hofbauer started an art and music store in Vienna, but the partnership ended when both partners set up on their own, Weinberger in 1890 and Hofbauer in 1892. Weinberger saw the potential, in publishing and licensing, of the craze for operetta, and made a connection with Johann Strauss II. Within a few years all the great operetta composers were his clients: Strauss, Millöcker, Zeller, Kálmán, Oscar Straus, Stolz, and Fall. He even provided licensing services for the last great Viennese operetta composer, Franz Lehár, who from the 1920s published through his own company, Glocken-Verlag.The firm expanded quickly, opening branches in Paris (1885) and Leipzig (1889) where they worked with Friedrich Hofmeister. One of the most remarkable aspects of the developing Weinberger catalogue was the commitment to Czech music, and from April 1893 to August 1894 the Hofmeister entries were almost all by Smetana (various publications of Dalibor and HubiÄka as well as overtures) and Vilém Blodek (V studni); later additions included Tajemstvi (1895) and  LibuÅ¡e (1897). Otherwise most of the repertoire was of popular music for various combinations, not least military bands, with von Suppé figuring prominently from 1895 onwards. The mid 1890s also saw significant enlargements of the Weinberger catalogue through the acquisition of other publisher's lists: in 1894 the ancient firm of Artaria, then in 1895 items from the Kratochwill catalogue and over 1,500 works from the Kratz catalogue of theatrical works. This latter acquisition included a number of works with international performing rights, which encouraged Weinberger to open a Parisian branch in 1896, but it also reflected a shift in Weinberger's publishing interests towards theatrical music generally. Another major step in that direction was taken in 1897, when the entire theatrical catalogue of Gustav Lewy â€“ which included the stage works of Johann Strauss the younger and Millöcker – were taken over (with the Strauss performing rights following in 1899).Weinberger was active in three other fields apart from popular music. Firstly, he was Gustav Mahler's third publisher, issuing the Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen in 1897, and distributing Symphonies nos 1-3, Das klagende Lied and Lieder aus des Knaben Wunderhorn (1900) on behalf of the owner of the publishing rights, the Erste Wiener Zeitungsgesellschaft. Secondly, he took an active part in setting up a trade association, AKM (Gesellschaft der Autoren, Komponisten und Musikverleger or society of authors, composers and publishers) to collect the performance fees due for non-theatrical musical works, in 1897. Finally, Weinberger was the driving force behind the founding of Universal Edition in Vienna in 1901, and not only served as its managing director until 1906 (when he was replaced by Arthur Fadüm), but also provided the new company with space in his own firm's premises until 1908.This orchestration is for a brass quintet. The French Horn acts as a substitute or support for Trumpet 2.

Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1118481 By Amy Winehouse. By Amy Winehouse. Arranged by Johan Verhey. Jazz,Pop,Singer/Songwriter. 70 pages. DaimlerMusic #720003. Published by DaimlerMusic (A0.1118481). Love Is A Losing Game is the story of a woman who is disillusioned with love. She has fallen head over heels for the man of her dreams. But what seemed like a beautiful promise turned out to be just an illusion. Outwardly self-confident and convinced of himself, but inwardly not up to the challenges of a relationship, he cowardly flees out of fear. Leaving her in loneliness and pain. This arrangement is for music fans and inspired Big Bands interested in telling an incredible story with authentic instrumentation. Johan Verhey is a professional musician and composer, as well as arranger. He knows how it feels to play a piece “in the pocket†with the intention of the original composer always in mind. His arrangements honour the Artist who wrote the original piece to express their soul. Each measure is created with precise attention to the intention of the lyrics. The instrumentation carries forward the story with dynamic harmonies. Johan Verhey understands the nuances of this piece and creates a dynamic and engaging arrangement. He also understands the power of the moment when the musician feels equally inspired and free to soar within the structure. The ability to play this arrangement does not require a specific skill level; only the heart , soul and intention is mandatory.More music from Johan Verhey, see: www.bestarrangementsforbands.com.
